  1. For the 77 I have to get a temp switch to get her back in operation and the 73 is getting an engine overhaul this spring (maybe a cam kit as well). Both will get new seals (already bought sitting in boxes, in the shed). I have other thoughts but talking takes the place of doing - so I will stop there.

    Here's what I have so far. The vendor invited me to come see the car - that will not happen, but someone a little closer may find it worthwhile. I requested shots of the standard trouble areas, but I am thinking this is over my head. Happy New Years all.

    I bought a 73 last year off craigslist, through the jigs and reels it turned out ok for a couple of Gs. This one is a bit trickier - just got some shots of the rust spots - they are significant.

    Just thought I'ld make a plug for the local boys. There has been a Targa event here past seven years and each year draws some interesting competitors - several porsches (obviously), some Suberu s and several other interesting vehicle types. This year there is a GTR being raced by team Stillen as well as at least one 1972 240. The event kicks off annually at about this time of year and the show starts today with all the cars on display at the St John's curling club. Thats where I will be this afternoon.   5. Nice car - good price. Automatic wouldn't be my choice but in that condition I could live with it. If I didn't have a kid starting university this month (just bought her a car) it would be more interesting. Beautiful colour
  6. It looks like it would obscure vision for a tall guy (I'm 6'2.5"). My head almost touches the headliner in the 280 - not so bad in the 240 (lowered the seat). Is it see through?

  9. Hey guys - its a bad luck story. Drivin the 280 behind a dump truck - a 6 inch rock drops out and I can't get around it. It hit the bottom of the Z in a half dozen places - I almost cried. Nothing could be done and it seemed cosmetic initially - so I figured just get on with it and drove on to town (after a brief once over on the road side). Anyway - next day, run over a small bump in the road and clunk, clunk. Jacked her up and after some poking around there it is - the bracket containing the D/S sway bar bushing is pulled off. Pretty clean break from the chassis. Anyone seen this befor? Can it just be welded directly back in place. Best method?

    I used Tokico blues in both cars - but they will give you a nose bleed with the regular springs. (height)

  13. I like them in a contrasting colour - I just got a BRE non ducted for my 240. It came in black and I think I will leave it that colour as well as the rear spoiler. I like the look of the 280 in the picture but it also has a fender package and a rear spoiler that add to the look. Don't think I would go that far.
  14. Same here Jeff - bought one for < $10. Fits in the glovebox. Often wondered about the state of the spare tire as well.
  15. I fail to see how this is Z related. I don't usually recommend that a thread is canned - but this one gets my vote. Please flush this thread!
  16. To bad Tom - I was lucky, my 77 was a single ower car and she didn't do much more than oil changes and replaced some FI wires. There were some other issues, but not related to tinkering. The second car has been f'ed with quite a bit so I feel your pain.
  17. When I had mine apart, I laid them out like the exploded picture to assist with reassembly. Lots of digital photos helped as well. Just wondering why you are purchasing/installing these. Did they rust out?

    Great find Chris! I have one just like it and I love it. Some of the stuff you are going through sound familiar. I had issues with the heater and A/C at the start - vacum hoses turned out to be the bulk of the problem. Right up the alley of a tinkerer. Welcome aboard - should be able to find everthing you need on this site. Good luck and enjoy your Z.

    Still Smokin - S--t! Did the valve seals on both cars. A guy in New Brunswick sent me his spring compressor in the mail - hard to believe how Z decent people can be - excellent. As 74240zman said the seals were like hard plastic - I was surprised - I though they were going to be deteriorated according to some peoples experinces, but they looked brand new. Unfortunately the smoker still smokes - cheap options are exhausted Guess the engine will come out. Now that it is settled - I am thinking whether to go to a different engine. If I can find a good l28 I will probably go for the change and just store the l24. Once again it is one of those times when it would be nice to be on the mainland to get access to parts - very little here. I have however located a 81 (ex) turbo with all the top missing - I have been talking to the owner he is not quite ready to sell. Even if I do get it, it will need to be overhauled.     Just finished adjusting the valves car was running perfect til she got completely warmed up. Got that rough idle and I figured it was the connector on W/T switch - son as I touched it turned to s--t. No where to get a new connector til Monday - wonder it I can just cut the end off and spice the wires together - don't need the warm up injector right now and with the open circut it is always on. Thoughts.

  22. When I looked at this thread I thought the picture MRCOW linked was my engine. The appearance is identical (exzept his head looks a little cleaner), the oiler tube extension is exzactly the same mess. This is probably more common than you think. I currently have a friend who is a ship's engineer looking at mine, but I believe I will spring and get a new one.

  24. I bought the fibre glass BRE style. Saved a couple of hundred bucks.
  25. I think it's paint - I refinished mine a few years ago. A satin or flatish finish will reduce reflection on a bright day.
