Back in the club
Thanks Mike but I tried plenty of times to use that link but it never worked for me. The main reason I stayed off long enough to forget my password was because my wife and I stayed at our lake house for a while with only dial up. That is so slow you could completely rebuild a car waiting to download anything.I stayed off the computer for a long time and while I was looking for a project I bought a 64 Chevy c-10 shortbed stepside to redo.I should be painting it next week and will show some pictures. I know it is not a Z but I think it is a classic.I am glad to be back and I will get dsl when I go back to the lake. Ronnie

The hardest part to find
Thanks Adam and everyone for your help but still no knob.I left a message with Zedsaver but haven't heard from him yet.I have several complete units with handles and cables just no throttle knob.I don't go on the other sites so I don't know what luck I would have there.I know some other sites cater to modifying thier Z's maybe they could use E-31 heads or a set of weber carbs if they are not going back original.I will keep looking and thanks for the help. The hardest part to find
I don't know if it's me or I am just looking in the wrong place but I have checked every source and vendor for several years and I have not been able to locate an early throttle knob other than home made.I never give up on anything and the harder the task the more determined I am.I tried money being no object,But some people have parts they wouldn't part with for any price.I would like to try another route.I have 4 Zcars left that are still a lot of good stuff on plus a good stash of parts collected off a bunch of Z's over the years. They range from 12/70 to 7/72. I will trade ANY part I have that is not on a car that I drive for a great condition series 1 throttle knob. I drive the red one in my avator and an early 71 that has been modified for raising hell. All others are open game. For the sake of fairness using this forum and all of the help I have gotten from this great club I will throw in a 150 dollar donation to the club.I hope using this forum does not offend anyone but a lot of you understand some times to get a part you want you will do just about anything.

Back in the club
I forgot my password 2 years ago and have not been able to post anything to the club.I tried for a long time to log on but one of my motto's is " You have to be smarter than what you are working with " I guess that applies to computers to.I took one last WAG at it tonight and got it right.I have had a lot of questions and replies to messages I was unable to do so, if I offended anyone I am terribly sorry. While I was out of touch with the club experts I have had many questions or need of advice that I really miss.I hope after such a long absence I will be welcomed back in the fold. THANKS RONNIE

Looking for a complete L24 or L28 Engine....
Brad I just bought a 71 for some of the body parts.I have several L 24s around that I am going to haul to the scrap yard to get enough to buy a clutch slave cylinder or a brake master cylinder.these engines have everything from fan to drive shaft.I figure about 50 bucks is a fair price. I am not that far from you and I will take them out of the car and set it on what you have to haul them on.

Black pearl Z
I had posted about this Black pearl Z a good while back trying to find a value on it.It is a one owner Z and has been covered up for several years.I didn't see any obvious flaws and it is in original condition.the guy that owns it says he bought for his girlfriend new and when she left he kept the car. He originally asked 10,000 for it and after checking I didn't call him back and lost his phone number. He called tonight and said he was serious about selling it now and was willing to talk reasonable price.I don't want the car because I stay with 70/71 models.I am leaving on another road trip tomorrow to pick up a 71. If anyone is interested let me know and I will give you his name and number so you can deal with him direct. If I was into 280s I would buy it but I know someone else could probably get a good deal and enjoy more than me.

How Close Are Our VIN #'s
Mike It has been a while since I checked out the site and read up on what's going on so I am sure I missed a lot lately. On your spread sheet I read Spridal shows 903 as build date 9/69. I have 913 and it shows 1/70 as build date. I am wondering if there is a possibility mine could be a 69.I have read different post in the past telling of Z's being out of order on the assembly line and would be tickled to death to a have a 69.Just checking?

svannah z---say it ain't so!
John I love dogs as much as my Z's and as you might know I lost my little road trip buddy about a month ago.I will be getting another one on the 9th when he can leave his mother. I am lucky to be in the position to trade x-ray supplies and services to the vets for all my expences with Sam which would have been a real dent in my Z hobby. I have plenty of extra supplies and if need be will provide my services if I can at no cost to help out.If this will help save your dog and possibly your Z count me in.

pulling a dent from fuel tank?
I pulled my tank off the other day and it has an indention about the size of a dinner plate. I think I might have come up with a way to pull it out with no cutting.First I was going to put all the hoses that will fit from one nipple to another and tighten up the clamps the best I can. Then cap all the holes left.Next rig a way to pressureise the inside of the tank. Next strap the tank to an immoble object and place a magnet that I bought at a welding supply company that will pick up to 200 pounds in the center of the dent with a cable attached to the back of my truck. Then start off easy pulling to see what happens. If that don't work increase slack and snatch it. Keep on until you pull it out or maybe go to plan B,whatever that is.

What is the the real story on E-Bay
Like a lot of members in the club I keep my eye out for a good deal to pop up on E-Bay.Sometimes I luck up on things I think I can't live without.Like a lot of you I have a lot of duplicate parts and when I see what some people pay for it I get tempted to sell parts I really and truly will never use. What I don't understand why the prices vary so much on the same item same day?I sold a few parts last year and came out all right,But now I basically give parts to members to help out.I feel that is the least I can do after all the info and help I have gotten from yall. I keep my stash of real hard to find parts unless I think it will help someone in a bind then I part with it.But what gives on the big fluctuation on the same stuff other than condition.

A great way to restore parts
I have been toying with different ways to clean up and restore old parts. I found a small sprayer that goes in a bead blaster box and used baking soda as my media. It is real cheap and does a great job on small parts and small patches of rust.I use it outside the cabinet because I can use it all over the car.It doesn,t warp the metal and the soda turns into a small powder that blows completely away leaving nothing but a clean smell with no grit.Has anybody tried this before? I bought 24 pounds for 10.00 today at Sams.

240Z values in rust belt - 2007
Arne Ditto what Nate said.Down here rust is a major problem so the ones around here are in no better shape and they go for about same as what you want for yours.Transportation is a major factor in the cost because of the distance. The most puzzeling thing I have noticed about the prices of 70/71 Zs is I have seen cars like yours go for around 4500 another just like it go for 1500. It makes no sense except maybe timing. If you put it out there at the time the right person is looking you could get your price. As far as fixing it up first you have to decide if your time is worth the extra it will bring.Personaly I love your car.The one I am starting on now is the same color.I like it better than my red one that is finished, and it is no where close to being done. Good luck

Different Early E88 Heads ?
I just pulled the intake manifold off an early E-88 head.I ran my finger inside the intake port and there is about a 1/4 inch lip where the gasket is to small for the opening.Just a question but wouldn't it help if that exess gasket was cut out to the same size as the port?It seems like it would allow better flow thus more power. Different Early E88 Heads ?
I have 3 e-88 heads from mid 71. I also have 2 e-31 heads from early 70 model. Is there enough difference in the two to make difference? Ronnie

Maybe a bastard 70 or PO repair
It has all A thru F. Also the doors do not have the indention in the hinges,or the deflectors in the middle of the air vents.even the seats are series one. I am not sure how the vents work such as where the air goes or how it circulates on either type of vent.I didn't find a thread explaining this.If any one can explain them it would be a major help.

Maybe a bastard 70 or PO repair
It has the cable and bracket but the lever was taken off at the dealer.I found the lever and the knob so now it has it.

This is one of my first projects since I finished my welding class last month. It is built out of two x-ray machines,1 I-beam,casters,sign post poles, and an assortment of nuts and bolts. All donated except nuts and bolts.Total cost 25.00 dollars. It is totally adjustable for length and the bar at the top is adjustable for heigth to hold lights and for support.

Maybe a bastard 70 or PO repair

Maybe a bastard 70 or PO repair
Pretty close. My VIN is 17309 12/70. If yours is newer than mine and no vents in the pillars it must have been they were useing up leftover parts during model change. The question is still should I fill in the vents on the post or not.I like the emblems on the post but don't know if filling in holes will cause a problem or what else is involved?

Your first Z car...
I was 19 and stationed at Fort Hood TX in early 73. My 71 Toyoto Corolla was stolen and I took the insurance money flew back to Atlanta to buy another car at auction. My father told me about 240Z's and said I should consider it. I had never seen one up close until I saw the yellow 71 that I bought that night. I drove it back to TX the next day and have loved them ever since. I came back from TX about a year later and within a week my dad bought a new 260.
