Jeff I found a 78 2+2 in a junk yard near me. It is not in that bad of shape.I think it is a ZX. he wants 250.00 for it. The floor pans look to be solid.Since I don't know about 280s I don't know what the floor pans are worth. If they are worth enough I will buy the car and cut the pans out and do something with the rest.

If anybody wants to really know how it is pronouced they need to go back to the origin of the Zcar. In late 1968 the head of the Nippon corp ordered 500 Z cars to be designed built and delivered to the U.S. The engineers asked when they were expected to be delivered they were told early 69. In disbelief they said " DAT SOON ? "

I know this seems lame but I read the whole thread and I still don't understand which door seal to use. On the J.C.Whitney site they all looked about the same to me. Which one was decided to work on a 73Z. I need all the help I can get.:stupid:

To those that have responded to my classified ads for parts I want to apoligize for my delayed response.I know it may sound silly to some but we found out recently my littlest buddy and road trip companion picking up z's across the country was diagnosed with a terminel blood disorder last week. According to his doctor he could pass on at any time.It could be tomorrow or in a week. He doesnt know when. The hardest part is Sam acts normal and still take rides. Its just something wrong with his blood. All I have to do is shake the keys and he is ready to go for a twenty minute or thirty five hour ride. I will reply to all who were interested in parts asap but it might be in a day or so. Thanks for your understanding:(

I am sure Arne knows more than me so this is just hearsay but I have heard others say to stay away from 4bbl carbs. FWIW

It doesn't matter if you are talking about Nissan vs Ford, Makita vs Craftman, Mercury vs Honda or anything where a foriegn company surpasses it's competitor you are are going to have a certain group of people that are going to be upset about job loss.It doesn't matter if thier competitor puts out a better product or service at a cheaper price all that matters to them is they are going to lose thier insurance, Built up vacation days, sick leave, annual pay raise ( whether they earned it or not ) and their retirement plan financed by their employer. American automakers lost their ability to stay in the running for the top when they let unions dictate to them whether they were in buisness to work for their employees or to stay competetive in the world market.
  10. Thanks Stephen I didn't know a thing about 280s until tonight when I started reading about the BPE and I am just about sure I will stick with early 240Z'S. They are easy to wortk on and appreciate in value plus I love the way they look.
  11. It's me again with another find. A 78 Black Pearl Z in perfect condition. One owner with original bill of sale and loan payments.Been kept inside until last year.Been covered up.NO rust no dents or dings,Original paint. dash has 1 small crack low milege. I need to make an offer soon so please give me some figure.
  12. Eric Only you can can decide if it is worth that long of a road trip.If you go out and ask 100 non Z people and give the facts they are going to tell you no way,but if you ask 100 people that really love there Zeds and are addicted to the hobby the only answer you will get is go for it. Last month I took an 1800 mile road in bad weather to pick up the Z pictured up below. 35 hrs on the road I kept telling myself this is crazy but after a couple of days rest I made a 1200 mile trip to pick another Z. 1 week later I made a 900 mile trip for another. At least the trips are getting shorter. I can't explain why but I am still looking for another one. Only you can decide.I know what I would do.

Is all of this really important
  16. I guess it is because just about every man in Georgia ( half the women) learn to work on cars by the age of 10 in Georgia and most have a shade tree to work under. That keeps a lot of older cars running longer. The trailer pulls great now that that I removed that top rail on the front.I couldn't pull the car forward enough to get any tongue weight on it.Now I can pull it up 2 more feet and it rides perfect. Last night I got back from my fourth road trip in 5 weeks. No problems.
  17. On a recent road trip I saw this car along the way.Never seen one like it before. Can anyone identify it?Also here is the reason for the trip.
  18. I have a 77 280 for parts. The only part missing is the hood. Since you are so close you are welcome to see if anything will fit yours.
  19. Pete Other than different ratios I don't know of any difference.Maybe somebody with more experience could help answer that.
  20. Pete I just got in from another road trip to pick up a 72Z and just read your post. I found out it has a 5 speed in it.I don't know anything about it but I now have 4 used 5speed trannies. 2 I know came out of 78 280s.You are not far from me so let me know if I can help.

Trust me, I don't want to get shot as much as the next guy but where these cars are located there was no chance anybody would ever know I was there. Why do you think these cars have remained untouched for at least sixteen years? The place cannot be seen from the road and the road is in a place where no one travels plus it is obvious it is abandoned. The fellow that showed them to me lived in the area and knew about them for many years. He just is not interested.Besides no pain no gain.

I have an L28 with and E31 head and all the other stuff is from a 240 (carbs ect). The bottom end has not had any problems and it is driven very hard all the time. I have the option of an E31 or E88 head to go on a L28. I have read all the threads and been to every site I could find and I can't decide which I should use. Without spending a fortune which should I use?

Sorry about cutting the story short but I was tired and not sure if any was interested. I have found the man that owns the cars but due to some very strange details I have not been able to discuss this with him. The reason is as strange as this story but I assure yall I will not give up.When I exaust all my energy getting these cars I will let you know the rest of the story.

Without pictures I wouldn't believe this story myself. I bought 2 280Z 5 speed transmissions from a guy in a small central GA town for a song. When I went to pick them up he told me about a 71Z sitting in the yard of an abandoned house.I asked him about looking at it he hesitated and said it was behind a fence and we couldn't see it. After I assured him all I needed to know was where it was we WOULD be able to see it he took me to the house. On the way he told me the man that owned the house use to sell old surplus army jeeps still in the crates and still had some there.I remember the ads in the back of old magazines that said they had surplus jeeps for 500 dollars since I could read and knew this was a myth, but I didn't say anything. When we got to this house it was pitch dark so we had to use a flashlight to see anything. As we got out of the truck I couldn't believe what I saw. Sitting in the front yard of this old house was 5 old jeeps sitting there with parts for several more plus 3 military trailers laying there. I was shocked. We started around the side of the house with the flashlight when I could barely see the back of a 240Z. It was in the middle of a big patch of weeds, vines and small trees. It took a few minutes to make our way to reach it but there it was a 1971 240Z. It was in pretty rough shape but when I opened the door most of the interier was still there. I popped the hood and saw everything was still under the hood including a set of hedders and other high performace parts. I looked at the head and it was an E-33. Ater a few minutes we turned to look around and about 20 ft away was another 71 240Z. I new then we had hit paydirt. It to was in the middle of a patch of thickets and underbrush. We made our way to it and found it to be in the same shape. It was pretty rusty but most of the interier was there. Under the hood was the same story, headers and twin webers. There was a few other mods and it had an E-88 head on it.I was ecstatic. After we got over the shock we looked around and damn there was anouther 71 240Z about 15ft away. Same story, built motor except it had a 4 bbl holly on it. same E-88 head. What can I say. We were blown away. I could not stop grinning. I had thought this only happens to other people. I couldn,t wait to find the man that let this sit here according to the plates for 16 years. We started back to the truck around the other way to avoid the brush when we found a small carport.there was a tarp covering another car. I thought I can't believe this s#*t another Z car? Nope it was a 1958 fuel injected corvette.I thought I was dreaming. This don't happen. We looked inside and out. It was all there. it was dirty but fiberglass doesnt rust. I couldn't stand it. I had to figure out where the man was that owned these cars.We made it back out to the truck and I sped home about an hour from there. When I got home I called a few friends and told them about my find. As I expected they said yeh right. I didn't sleep good that night and got up early and went back down there to take pictures. When I got there I was still in disbelief myself until I got the first picture. I took pictures of the jeeps then each z car then the vette. I was still grinning in amazement thinking it can't possibly get any better than this when I looked over next to me and there it was a 1968 SS327 camaro. It was in all original condition except for the traction bars on it. What can I say. I was shocked. I stood there laughing. This had to be a dream. Nobody drives off and leaves this kind of cars just sitting there. I was in to much shock to think straight so I took my pictures and headed back home to figure out what I was going next.I had to find whoever owned these cars.I have posted a few of the pictures here to show this is not a fish story. If anybody is interested I will post more pictures and tell how my quest is coming.
