Frankie...You get back here right now...it's still not too late!!!! It's really dangerous out there!!

Frankie....You get right back to Indiana at once and NEVER leave the state again. It is a cold, cruel world out there. I hope this has taught you a lesson! (Seriously, sorry about your luck. My wife and I drove our 260Z to San Antonio for the ZCON and had our fingers tightly crossed for the entire 2700 mile trip! Fortunately, no problems.)
  5. Incidently, in my case the fan belt broke, the engine overheated and the head cracked in no time at all.
  6. Yep, been there, a blown head gasket or cracked head. Hope it is just a gasket! Mine was a cracked head.

Gosh.....it turned your car green, when I used it , it turned my car orange! Weird stuff!

Two cars from Indiana that I know of are attempting the trip. We hope to see you there! Keep the faith in 35 year old technology....

  10. Shadesh...Are you aware of this site? If not, I think you will find it very helpful. http://www.teglerizer.com/sucarbs/techtip6.htm

The "red reflector" is actually more of a "metallic orange".
  12. IdahoKidd...the '74 260Z was the last year for the twin SU type carbs. And the older Volvos had twin SU's apparently. So, I absolutely agree with your Volvo comment...the best old Z mechanics around here are the old Volvo mechanics! In the 60's my best friend had a 544 sedan that we drove the crap out of....
  13. I have heard that the site "may" be back by the end of the week! Check in again later. Thanks...

Well, of course, I thought "Indy" was from "Indianapolis" and so forth .....but at least we share a love for the fabulous 2+2....!!!

As mentioned above, the 260Z was 1974 only...early model with the small bumpers and late model with the large bumpers. The 260Z did not have fuel injection, that first appeared as a 1975 280Z, which looked exactly like the late model 1974.5 260Z.

I don't want to beat this to death...because the "answers" have been provided in the previous posts. The Konig Rewinds will fit just fine as MSA states without adaptors or rubbing. The Z logo is a decal to cover the Konig name if you so desire. If you ask MSA about the problem with the front center caps....they will tell you to take a hammer and gently pound in the grease cap . This is only a couple of mm. The center cap will then go on without any problem what so ever. No drama. The same wheels are also available locally...Discount Tire...in our area, but without any Z decals, of course. I have the 16" wheels on my 260Z and cannot speak to problems with springs that lower the car as mine is stock.

  18. Gee, there are TWO of us in the world of Z! I am the original owner of a '74 2+2. My ignition unit failed once upon a time but fortunately many years ago when they were available. Good luck! Dave

Welcome to the World of Z! I have a special fondness for the 260....

Looks a lot like a Konig Rewind, which comes in several different finishes and is readily available.
  21. In the Knoxville area, http://www.automedic.org, and in the Nashville area, http://crawfordz.com. Good luck.

It could be just the gasket or a cracked head as mentioned above. I had a fan belt snap and in no time at all the car overheated and the head cracked. Also a 260.

So glad to hear that the 2+2's are liked when orange. Incidently, the 260Z 2+2, AT, was the absolute "slowest" Z car ever made...sad but true.
  24. I have a late '74 and many years ago I just unplugged the plug-ins located underneath the seats. That eliminated the interlock system from being a factor. I don't really recall doing anything else.

I also vote for the 3M double sided tape. It fact that's what is holding several of the emblems in place on my 260Z as the pins have broken over the years. I also used the 3M tape to put rubber door seals back in place on my son's BMW that the dealer tried twice to fix without success.
