Looks good but I've been told that if you don't remove the paint from the surfaces the rotors sit against then you'll have bad problems with the your brakes warping or being crooked. I did the same thing to mine but I went back after painting and scraped/sanded the paint off of that flat surface. You could try it but if you end up with problems that'd be a good place to look. Keep up the good work.

That's true sblake -their prices are good especially considering they're all NOS parts. Also, I had a question about one part and Norman actually generated a pic from the parts manual with highlighted part numbers to help me understand what it was. So their service is good - I'm not trying to burn them. I was just surprised when he told me about this parts pulling fee.

Anyone purchased from them before? Good or bad experiences? I just got a quote for a couple of parts and it turns out they add $4 per part to fill an order!!! That's a $4 fee just to pull the part off of the shelf. Well the first is "free" but each additional part is $4. I found that to be outrageous but on the other hand some parts you can't find anywhere else. I've heard of restocking fees for returns but never anything like this.

On the topic of OT ebay auctions of late 70's dats - here's the one I'd snap up if I were the area: '78 200SX on eBay Looks to be in great condition, so far the price is low and yeah it's a strange Dat but that's what makes it so cool! Fairly rare too I believe for the first few years anyway. But anyway, back on topic (of this OT thread), cool buy daddz and tt - keep us updated ifi possible. Probably most users would prefer you keep it in this thread of course.

Hello everyone! I'd like to preface this post with a big 'shout-out' and thanks to the illustrious admin of this beloved site, without whom this discussion wouldn't even be possible. I think we should each take a few moments each day to turn our thoughts to the guy behind the curtain as they say, the one who makes it happen, the MAN WITH THE PLAN - of course I'm referring to Mike - the PHP wizard of classiczcars.com. Not only does he keep this site going, but without Mike's watchful eye and vigilant editing skills members would be at the mercy of their own wits and opinions. Thanks Mike for keeping us in line and supressing our overzealous personalities, and thanks for making this all happen for us members and the thousands of guests whose lives are geared up a notch each time they visit this place that some of us may even call home. If you want to go the full-on obsessive route you should consider when and where to overspray as well. Of course overspray is somewhat random but there are certain places where a restorer may want to reproduce factory overspray. I think it's silly myself... Sorry I don't know where and what colors should overspray onto what but someone else here may know. I'm not sure if anyone here really has a completely unrestored gem but I could be wrong. One way to squelch zpression is to pick up another Datsun to drive as a daily driver. I haven't been able to work on my Z since we bought our first house (I can't even reach it), but I picked up a cheap 210 to drive daily which has helped a lot. It's not a Z but it's still a Dat. Keeps that dream alive anyway. The 210 is fun so I can hardly imagine what 250% of the 210's HP and torque is going to be like. Some day! Love your Dats - keep em alive... Michael

I sure miss MidwestZ. Who else would put together a bolt kit like this from scratch? No one - that's who. I tried Courtesy and spent 3 weeks f-ing with them and got no where. Most of the part numbers were wrong and they constantly kept upping the price and tried to screw me on the discount that the LOCAL Z club is supposed to get. I don't think I would have ever seen a single bolt or nut anyway. I've also had trouble with VB but mostly just bad phone service. The parts are OK though I do remember getting 2 parts from different manufacturers that should have been identical. They're just lazy I think. Chloe where are you!???! By the way that bolt kit shown includes every bolt, nut and washer you'll find underneath your Z. I should have bought a couple of them when I had the chance...

difference between FWD and RWD

Well there is some power used to get the driveshaft rotating. It may be negligable though, I don't really know percentages or anything. It would depend on the weight, diameter and distribution of weight in the shaft. I think there is a post somewhere where we discussed the effect of using a lighter driveshaft such as the aluminum ones offered by MSA. Lighter is better - no driveshaft at all is best. michael

Funny but my floor area was most rusted where the floorpan meets the frame rails and firewall, which isn't even included in this part. But it is an interesting thing to look at. Installation would be extremely difficult I'd imagine. MIchael

Someone might spend that much with the hope that at some point in the future it will be worth much, much more. Some people invest in the stock market - others in vintage cars. It may be overpriced at this point but still, a less than 5k "Z" is hard to find.

There's no way wheel spacers are illegal here. If they were about 50% of the cars in my neighborhood would be illegal - and I can't believe Dallas cops could be that bad. Many of the hispanic gentlemen around here like to get TINY wheels with rubberband tires and make them stick 1 or 2 (or more?) inches out past the fenders on their F150 pickups, Silverados, minivans, civics - you name it. They're everywhere. Those wheels look like they'll pop off at any minute. I stay away from them on the highway... Michael

It looks like Luke is in Oz. Any of you guys there want to give him a hand? Is there another bushing manufacturer there or do you guys also use Energy Suspension? I know there are some manufacturers there that we don't have in the US (such as King Springs - which I need for my 210 btw...) If you were in the US I'd also suggest suspension.com. They're now offering bushing+ball joint+tie rod end packages that could be a good deal. I haven't compared the total to VB. Michael

Spindle pin re-installation
Installing the lock pins took me awhile too. I ended up using a small hand held press or vice to squeeze them in. Mine weren't deformed because they were new parts, and they were still difficult to install. I stacked several washers on the receiving side so the threads could come through.

Like the corvettes, looks 1000X better with the headlights down. I'm glad the designers of the Z found a way to make it beautiful with the lights out in the open.
