The Haynes manual has a decent write up for stripping down the doors. I got through it with no problems.

Hey hmsports, You must have the Official Auto Mechanics Mega Clip Art Collection But hey we appreciate the artwork!! Michael
  4. Little under a year since I started my mess but I predict it'll be somewhere around 5 before I get it on the road. I'm slow and have 0 experience... Michael

Hey Bonnie, Try contacting the Z Club of Texas http://www.zcluboftexas.org . They should be able to recommend someone. I haven't gotten to that stage yet - my Z is still disassembled in the garage! Good Luck Michael

Who hasn't put a 280Z or 280ZX motor in a 240Z?!?!? It'll drop right in and most parts are interchangable.

Hi Raven, I'm working on a gallery of early Z cars painted the original colors. I don't have many of the 280Z/260Z colors yet but I've got a few. See Zhome.com for specific years but you can get an idea of how it'll look on my page http://www.utdallas.edu/~perdue/paintcodes.html I'm still looking for pics to finish out my gallery! Michael ps. looks like we're having server probems today so you may have to try again later...

Watch out when it comes to buying a lot of this stuff. I'm not sure but I think it has a shelf life of 6 months. I've run into a lot of trouble on my project (lack of time!!) and I've got a gallon of this stuff sitting out in my garage that I haven't had a chance to use yet. It's been a few months so I need to get on the ball. Also if I remember right you have to have somewhat warm temperatures to use it so you probably won't have the best results in the dead of winter... Michael

Hey mike, How did you fill the holes on the fenders? My '72 had those ugly bumper things and I'm going to need to fill holes all the way down the body. Did you weld in patches? Thanks!! Michael
  12. The only reason I'm not sure about which calipers to use is because the guy in the link above says to use 82-83, and you're saying the 79-81! Oh well whichever it is I'll probably buy the wrong one.... I'll have to do a test fit i think
  13. The parts I have are Nissan P/N 44155-04S10. They both say ADPT-CALIPER RR..... I hope they're interchangable because they're both Right Rear. I called Courtesy Nissan and was told that this is a rear caliper adaptor for 81-84 Maximas and the same part is used on both sides. He said he can order them and they're 55$ each. I'm still not 100% sure what year caliper to use from a ZX to put on a 240Z though and they guy from Courtesy didn't know either. Michael

    that's horrible
  15. Doh I forgot to check the number but check Courtesy - they should know.
  16. I recently bought a set of brackets shown in the link above. They are Nissan parts and from what I understand they are made specifically to fit ZX calipers from a 280ZX to a 240Z. I may be mistaken but that's how I understood it. I don't know what year caliper they're for still looking for that info. You may be able to find those brackets somewhere otherwise good luck trying a bracket from another car. If I remember I'll get the part numbers on the package - they're still in the original Nissan bag/box. Michael
  17. In dallas texas huh? Now you've got me thinking....... nah I'll try to get the L28 running first. Any idea how long you'll be importing these? I may be interested in a few years and your really close! Michael
  18. Love the new sig Alan.
  19. Mine's not an N47 - it's a P79 but it has the same inserts. It's a long way off but I was gonig to just plunk my engine back in and do any changes later (maybe much later). It was running fine at the time so when I get there I'll probably just want to drifve for awhile.
  20. Hey 2Many, You say these inserts go bye-bye over time? Any idea under what conditions and how long it takes? I've heard they restrict exhaust flow but not that they burn up. NOt that I would change heads any time soon - gotta try this one out first but just wondering. michael
  21. Yeah I'm in dallas but not much of a Guru. But if you stop by my place you can see a 90% dismantled Z in the process of being restored (slowly).

Ah oh a fellow Dallasite! Best of luck on your search. By the way, I noticed a car lot on my way to work (from the train) with 2 Z's sitting out by the back of the lot. They are probably in nasty shape from being outside but who knows. Let me know if you want more info. Michael
  24. mperdue replied to Britt Boyette's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Hey Britt, There are Nissan adaptors for putting 280ZX calipers on the rears - i recently bought a set but haven't used them yet or even tried a fit. I don't think they make the adaptors anymore but you may find them around. see this http://www.zdriver.com/articles/full_article.php?ID=11 Dont know about removing the drums (haven't gotten there) but I've heard it's a pain!! Good luck Michael

I just bought the Nissan adaptors for the 240Z rear brake conversion to 280ZX disc brakes. Has anyone else done this using the nissan adaptors? From what I can find about the ZX, they had disc brakes on both the front and back. I'm not sure which I need for the conversion - I've been told to use fronts but before I go pull parts it'd be nice to hear from someone who's done this before. I've seen this http://www.zdriver.com/articles/full_article.php?ID=11 but I'm not sure these are the same adaptors. Anyone have first hand knowledge? Thanks Michael
