  1. Jonathan, Sounds like a good set up. I myself prefer just pipe no mufflers at all on the Z. Loud and proud I guess . When are you planning to do this? I would love to hear how it sounds. Is it going to give you a quiet sound or a little rumble in the Z. I know Mickey @ Asian Imports said he would do my exhaust for 300.00 for everything including the mufflers. No headers though. He said it would be 2 ½ all the way back with a Dynomax muffler. I am almost sure you can get the parts and do it yourself cheaper though. I know Mickey would run it right and real tight in there. Will, Cash N Carry what a great place, I’m like a teenager in a mall when I go.

  3. Mark sounds like you got WIAI (while I'm at it) syndrom don't let it take over . Try these from the FSM and see if it helps. Like montoya_fan01 says it should just unscrew. Hope this time the pics will go through right.

    I have been looking for a kit to rebuild my engine and have had very bad luck. I found 1 place that is supposed to have a complete kit from cam to pistons. I was told they had to look into this kit due to some parts are hard to come by now. I have a 1976 L28 that is going 20 over needs new cam. I really want flat top pistons (not going turbo) to go with the N47 head that I have. I need a new cam to run well with the fuel injection that I have. I am looking for a good place to buy this stuff. I have checked MSA and VB along with the local shops NAPA, AutoZone ect. I have gone to my dealer and looked into it but cost is crazy for these Items. If any body has knowledge of a place or has extras to sell I would love to hear about it. John

    First I like to look at pitures then I wait for the coast to be clear. I apply a bit of. O wait thats something else I'm thinking of. I would just wash it when you get the chance. If you get some quality soap, one thats not going to leave spots, wash it up dry it off and wax the hell out of her..

    I like to drive with a nomex aviator style glove. They are thin enough to feel the wheel but still strong enough to handle the wear. The palm is leather while the top is a cloth Nomex non flamable..
  9. Did a test fit on the radiator today and all is well and clear. This should also help with the heat on the L6 motor due to the location of the fan. Should blow most of the heat from the exhaust under the car and help cool the intake just a bit. This could lead to ? and might help out performance.
  10. Ok went to the junk yard to pull some relays and other things for the Z and found a Ford Escort radiator that has the right dimentions but the bottom outlet is faceing the wrong way. I pulled this radiator out with the fan shroud and fan still attached. Got home and found out that this Escort shroud will hold the 2 speed Taurus fan just perfect. What makes this such a nice find is the fan is mounted to the side of the shroud. Which is good :rambo: because when installed it will clear the water pump to allow for the taurus fan mod.. The fan will sit just above the AC compressor and just right of the water pump pully. Now this is a theary for test fits by looking and holding in place on a parts car. Hopping to get this fitted by this weekend with pictures.
  11. I have a can of this in the shed along with the mineral spirits and sand paper. I might try it on the parts car first (in a small amount) to get an idea of how this really works. I have used rustoleum to paint a couple of things but always used the spray gun to do it. Will keep this thread updated on an out come.
  12. I notice that the different color lights end up fading after a while. The color on the bulb usaly ends up discoloring after a couple of weeks and with the cost of the color bulbs its not worth it to me. If I could change the green lenses to a different color that would be better for me. Does anyone know where to get different color lenses for the inside gauge??

" To me it looks like he didn't put enough money into it the right way. Did you see the flames?? they are squared off in some places. :sick: I know why he is getting rid of it though.. He found out that GOD owns a Z car and with him being a new minister and all he new he better not let the big man find out what terribale things he did to this Z car.

  15. Sounds to me like it might be a parts car for someone or a really nice restore job if the numbers all match. 12 years in the yard is a long time for this type of car or any car. If it has not been driven or started in 12 years I would try for something else. After what you discribed I would offer 250 and see what his reaction to it was. You can find running cars for 700 to 3000 that would be better to fix-up. This is just my 2 cents.
  16. You should probly get one from somebody else. It would be a alot cheaper than rebuilding your. I would guess around 800 to 1200 for someone to do it at a shop. As far as the tranny you can tell which one is the early verses the late ones. If my memory is right the early tranny (77-78) has two ears under the shifter and the later ones have one ear (81-83). For the raito try this site. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html It seems to have some info on transmissions. Good luck and sorry to hear about the 5 speed. I guess this is why I keep the 4 speed.

    No.. it is not normal to be able to pull the key out at any position except for the off position.. Probly a worn switch. My chevy truck does this at any position. It still works fine and I won't fix it untill its broken..
  18. If I had a 240 I would buy one in a heartbeat. At least faster then my wife could say no. If you ever get to making ones for the 280 I would be more than happy to get one or two of them. John
  19. I would have to agree with ed and bart on this, take the cover off and try and get the bolt out. Then relpace everything in there. Unless you have a fairly new chain like 30,000 or less. You could replace the oil pump with the turbo model or replace the distro with the ZX type. Just don't get the WIAI (while I'm at it) syndrom. You could end up with a new engine or worse if you get WIAI. Good luck and keep us posted..
  20. I have been where you are before. :dead: I broke a bolt off in the block from the water pump. It was about 10yrs ago and what I remember is that it was the longest bolt out of all of them. Don't know if it was 10 or 12 mm. I did not replace it or nor did I tap it. I never had a problem with it leaking at all. I don't recomend anyone do this but it was my first Z and I had no idea what I was doing. :stupid: I would probly get a heli coil kit for this area now. Then use a shorter bolt in its place. Good luck and I know how you feel about the bolt..

    I don't plan on catching that bug I have it but I have it under control I wish it would have been light blue or the 110 red. That color fades so beautiful that it turns orange. At least that was the color of the last 280 I had 110 red/+15 yrs Orange
