Well if the 2nd part of my advice didn't work, just make certain and follow the first part of my advice on how to properly shoot your car.
  3. Well its no wonder, I mean; you do live in Australia after all. :classic:

Personally I think that because the car gets hurt itself that it takes a certain degree of satisfaction in hurting me back.
  5. So it a nutshell, I wanted to replace my truck mirrors with something a little more sportscar like. The mirrors on my '75 280Z really are not truck mirrors, but from the inside look like it. I missed the cool mirror my 240Z had. I shopped all over and finally found some that looked very much like my old black 240Z mirrors, complete with the 'accordian' rubber parts. So my mirrors have been sitting in the respective boxes for a few months waiting to be installed. I finally had a few hours to burn and decided to tackle it. So after removing the old mirrors, I find that the new mirrors have different brackets. No problem, just need to remove the old brackets and install the new ones. Fast forward three hours. I am still working on the passenger side. I have completly disassembled the door and am trying to remove the locking nuts on the screws that hold the old bracket down. Finally got them removed and the new bracket installed. Put the door togther and went to put my mirror on. It would not go on! I looked and sure enough, I had mounted the bracket on upside down!! So after I repeated the above on both the passenger door and the driver door, I now have new mirrors on my Z. And it only took me 10 hours total. Yeah, I know. I would never make it as a mechanic.

So after only 2 hours I successfully managed to swap out the Temp/Oil guage light, the Fuel/Amp guage light, and the clock light (although I am not certain why because it does not work). Somehow I managed to crush a old bulb in my hand and got blood in my dash. Fortunatly I didnt stain anything.

So I am going to change them out. I found where they go and how they plug in. I cheated a bit and took a spare guage I had lying around to get the bulb size. Problem, I can only visually match it because there is no part no, and none of the part stores have it in their books or computers. Does anyone know which bulb my guages take?
  8. Or you could blow the car up. Okay bad option. Personally when I did my swap 2 years ago, I pulled it out the top with a rented engine hoist, makes things go very smooth.

More than likely if the bolt pattern matches, ytou need to get a wheel adapter because the Z uses a zero offset wheel. Hope this helps.

While I never have dragged, I timed myself once on a known quarter mile strip. When I crossed the line, my buddy came running up with the stop watch and proclaimed that I sucked. I'm almost ashamed to admit my 17.3 second time.
  12. The transmission should bolt up fine, then swap a shifter handle from a '78 280Z that was a 5-speed and you should be fine.
  13. I was eventually wanting to purchase a polyurethane suspension for my 280Z. Complete. Is there someplace you can buy everything at once? Is there a better brand than others? Better question, is it necessarily more expensive to have a local shop slap it on? I could do it myself, but that requires me doing it myself. Any other thoughts?
  14. No I am not selling them but I saw them and thought someone here might be looking for them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1847881239&r=0&t=0 They look pretty nice too.:classic:

Its just a classic car pose. Who do Body builders have their muscles showing? Why do the bikini girls lay over the hood of cars? Just a classic pose. I, however, see alot more Z photos with hood closed than I see open.
  17. I have seen a few people do this before, and it looks good. However you will have a difficult time making others believe it is a 240Z at first glance. Of course the other telltale signs will be there, but a 240Z looks best IMHO with 240Z taillights. If you want to do this, you will need to get th lights, the rear covers, and do so minot wiring modification. You will probably need to modify the back plate the lights screw into as well. The bottom line with any modification is this. Don't listen to me or anyone else. If you like it and you think our Z will look better then go for it. It is, after all; your Z.
  18. The Z trunk is exactly big enough to haul (independantly tested by Timberolf): -2 children no larger than 100lbs each. -1 great dane (although he will drool). -6 large grocery bags. -8 if you stack them very tightly. -4 full sized computer monitors. -1 swingset (but it will hang out the back). -18 good sized firewood logs (but be prepared to pick up bark). -7 office sized water jugs (found out the hard way - cap 'em). -6 friends (based off that old VW gag but don't expect comfort). -55 gallon aquarium (no fish, no water). -6 assorted Z heads with cam. -2 full sized Sears wet-vacs -carpeting for my office (approx 10'x8') -1/2 of my wifes shoe collection (Okay not actually true but I've been teasing her).
  19. While I realize it is blasphemy to say or imply here; I really don't have a problem with the 280ZX. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic 1st generation Z the best. But a 280ZX would make a nice 350" conversion. But on topic, I never waive or honk at anything other than a 1st generation Z.

Hey my signals in my Z just went dead. Totally and completely. I've been in cars where dead meant they would just come and and be solid, therefore prompting you to manually click it on and off. Mine are dead. Turn the signal on and no light. Both were working great yesterday, no hesitation, no worries. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
  21. I definatly give a honk or wave. Reponse is 50/50. Sometimes they wave back and sometimes they look at me like "Hey whats up?". I'd better not comment.

Some advice before you shoot the car: make certain and stand at a significant angle facing the car; that way there is less of a chance of ricochet. Seriously though, there really is only so much that can be wrong with a Z. You said the starter is turning. You still need to make certain you have -air -fuel -spark You said there was fuel getting to the carbs. How much? Check your fuel filter and pump. Pull the gas line off. Are you pumping any significant fuel? There may be a blockage. Pull a plug out. Leave the wire on it, and place against the head. Check for spark. No spark? Check your dist and all leads to it. Believe it or not, there is a perfectly logical reason its not starting.

Great swap if you have the time of Methusela, the patience of Job, and the Money of Soloman. That having been said I will probably not do it myself, although I am tempted.

I like it! Too bad my car wasn't in a calendar. I have ALOT of work to do before then.
  25. Mucho thanks! I'll try to call them this weekend!
