Pics from today's Scottdale car show
No I drove it. Living on the edge. The handles were unfortunately painted by the PO but I have replacements. I was going to install them but after taking off the door panel and concluding that the window had to come out to do it I am going to have someone do it. There is a real good Z guy here and I've got a nice list for him. Hope to have it all done in the next couple of weeks.

I'd love to. First I have to pass inspection, emissions, and get the car titled and registered. I am currently a fugitive on the road..

Pics from today's Scottdale car show
I thought some of you might want to see pics from today's car show at the Pavilions in Scottsdale. I'm pretty lucky - I live about a mile away and they have a great show every week. Once a month the Desert Z Car Association comes with the Z cars. Mine is the red '70. Enjoy....

Luggage Straps
Does anyone know where I can get a nice set of luggage straps for my 1970 Z? I've never seen them on EBay and mine didnt come with any. I am assuming the 1970 did have them.?.?.... Any ideas?

Decals or labels in the engine bay
So no one has a diagram by model year of all stickers and their specific locations?

1970 240Z Console Defroster Switch
I think it's pretty much toast. It doesnt move an inch. It looks and feels like someone shoved dirt and grease and oil into it for 35 years. I think I need a new one. Another question - I suck at electrical. Should one of the 2 wires leading to the switch light up my circuit tester light? In other words, do they carry the 12v?

What was originally in the 1970 240Z toolbins?
The auction listing says it came from a 1978. Is this the exact same stuff that was in the 1970?

1970 240Z Console Defroster Switch
OK I'm slow. I know who VB is but who is MSA? I googled MSA and nothing came up so I think I need the long name. ..

What was originally in the 1970 240Z toolbins?
Both of the tool 'compartments' behind the seat of my 1970 240Z are empty. Well, the passenger side one has a jack but that's it. What originally came in those 2 compartments when the car was new?

1970 240Z Console Defroster Switch
The switch in my center console near the choke knob (switch pictured) is toast. I can't even get it to move. 2 questions: 1) Can these be repaired and if so how would one repair it? Can I soak it in something to get all the gunk out or take it apart or both? 2) I'd prefer to replace it. I've never seen one of these on EBay. Anyone got a working switch to donate or sell? BTW - I'm also looking for the plug that fills the hole next to the defroster switch in the choke plate. Anyone got one of those for donation or sale? Thanks.......

Decals or labels in the engine bay
Guys, I have searched around and can't find anything. Is there a diagram or a post out there that any one knows about that outlines all original stickers on the various model years and maybe more importantly, exactly where they are placed? I have a 70 (HLS3014160) that has been repainted more than once and almost all original stickers are gone. I have seen Banzai and what they offer and think it would be a nice touch to replace some of these stickers. What I lack is knowledge of where they go. Are there documents that map this specifically? Thanks......

240z # 2
I think if the state makes me put a replacement VIN in the door jamb I will take it off and get a replacement door jamb plate from Banzai so it is back to legit original. Thanks for the heads up though. I just want a legit car that matches properly. The good news is the state confirmed that nothing is stolen. I hope this thread is of value to folks who are lurking the site and shopping for Z cars so they know things to look for.

240z # 2
Well I went to the state inspection office for the 3rd time today. They have verified that the car isn't stolen. Apparently the next step is the state removes the mismatched dash VIN from the car and they create a new dash VIN plate to match the firewall VIN #. I will wind up with a title for the appropriate VIN HLS3014160 which is a relief instead of a state issued VIN and salvage title. The car isn't the super low #3137 but still a pretty good #14160, is not stolen, and will have appropriate VIN's and titles. I think I will order new replacement door jamb and engine compartment tags to make it even more legit....

Mysterious electrical issues...
Last weekend I checked and replaced all of the taillight bulbs. It is indeed true that the dual filament bulbs will only fit into particular sockets because of the dual pin setup. So......if that is not the issue are there any other suggestions why the brake pedal would light the dash lights? Thanks....

It's a $4 part and a 2 minute fix. If you are unsure of it's condition just change it real quick......

Disconnected Wires in Steering Column
Anyone? Anyone?

Disconnected Wires in Steering Column
Hey guys, I have attached a picture of the wires along my steering column. As you can see there are 3 wires that are not connected. One is green and yellow, the other is green with white, then you can see another green and yellow hanging there with a connector on the end. Some of my electrical symptoms: Depressing brake pedal causes dash lights to illuminate No power to the 'flasher' fuse circuit under any circumstance Headlights aren't very bright and the left one is dimmer than the right I've looked at wiring diagrams but am not skilled enough to draw meaningful conclusions from them. Are there any obvious things I should go look for based on these specific wires being loose? The car is a 1970. Thanks

Yet another thermostat housing thread
I just bought a new housing from VB so I'm just gonna replace the whole lot..........

Yet another thermostat housing thread
Gents - I just experienced the same issue with a broken bolt on the thermno housing. I've just started working on cars and figured replacing the old worn thermostat was easy preventative maintainance. Whoops!! The bolt closest to the drivers side snapped off. I tried everything to get it loose and wound up drilling it out. I drilled through the bottom of the housing straight down in the same direction as the bolt. I put in the new thermostat, put on the new gasket, and used a sheet metal screw on the drilled out screw hole to hold it down nice and firm. It didn't seem like drilling through the bottom put a hole between the fluid chamber and the outside world. When I start the car and rev it it doesnt take long for a fountain of fluid to come pouring out. I can't tell if it is coming out the new bottom hole or along the gasket. I have never performed this operation. Am I supposed to use some sort of gasket sealer or is in just the hole I poked getting me? I can order a new housing but would prefer not to. I have an inspection appt Monday to get it finally registered. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Intermittent Temperature Gauge
Thanks. Any thoughts on the area circled in green? Seems odd to have to wires coming out that dont connect to anything.
