keyed up
I am a Husky and it was not meant as an attack but rather a compliment if you really were scooping them all up to resell for a profit. It should come as no surprise that a Husky is successful enough to afford a $365.80 set of keys. I think maybe you have Coug'd it by lashing out at me. Your prescision rebuttals are admirable but misguided in this case so just chill out dude.

Wow - beauty! How about some pix of the interior? Would love to see those too.....

what do you do...
I know how you feel. I derive my enjoyment from 2 things - the fun of driving the car, and the knowledge that if it is ever perfect my hobby is half as fun. In other words, for me, if I can't go tinker around and work on stuff much of the fun is gone. If it is perfect, all that can happen is for it to get worse.

Must See Videos...Z Rust Repair Made Fun
The first clip is by far the best. The rest do get a bit old to repair and patch and repair rust spots over and over again - but I loved it. Anyone know if/when we get to see them reassemble and the final result?

Glove Box door and light switch
I messed with the U shaped part of the mechanism and that wasnt it. Turns out the door was latching wrong. The top part of the latch has 3 prongs. The middle prong needs to be lifted up (in my case by depressing the door button) so the U shaped holder will fit inside. Previously, it was all just getting wedged in there. So.....to close my door I have to press the button while closing it but it closes tighter and the light turns off. Is everyone SURE those letters on the outside of the door are supposed to be silver on a 1970? I have the silver pen and was going to have a go at it like I did the silver parts of my radio faceplate but want to make sure it's not supposed to be black on a 1970. Thanks...

Glove Box door and light switch
Cool - I think I'll go find some little feet at Home Depot - I know they sell that stuff. I'd love for anyone else to weigh in on the silver lettering. Thanks, D

Glove Box door and light switch
I was poking around as usual today and I noticed the light switch inside my glove box. I popped a bulb in and to my delight it worked. Here's the problem (and I'm sure this is quite typical). The glove box door is warped so it doesnt depress the switch button and turn off the light. It looks like a new door from MSA is $80. Any ideas on clean ways to extend the switch plunger to make it longer and therefore turn off the switch with the warped door I have? Of course, I can also try to extend the door area where it is supposed to hit the switch, or both. Has anyone ever successfully 'unwarped' one of these doors? Finally, I have pictured the door. The 'Datsun' and the '240Z' on the front are black. The car is build date 11/70. I have seen other pictures where those are chrome. Has the chrome worn off of mine or is black correct for that model?

How to take apart radio?
I 'installed' it today. I dont know how to hook it up at all so I just put it in the dash for cosmetic reasons. I have a few electrical issues that I want a professional to look at so at some point down the road I'll have someone hook it up for me. I also got the map light (or what we used to call the 'dope scope') working which is really cool. Lookin pretty good. I should have a new ashtray with lid next week to fix that cosmetic issue....... While you are looking at the pic - notice the button above the hazard flasher. When I press it, something in the engine compartment seems to spin into life. I assume it's the starter. Anyone know what this button is for? I assume it's not a stock item...

$%^&ing emissions!!
I guess the law I was referencing hasnt passed yet so that didnt work. I went back to the emissions waiver station with an estimate from my mechanic to fix the carbs and after 6 guys poked at the car for 30 minutes they gave me a waiver. I am proud to say I finally have a legal and legit car and can drive without the law getting me. Now I have 1 year to get it fixed to pass emissions, or wait for the new law to be enacted.

How to take apart radio?
Thanks guys - that is awesome. Now....tomorrow I attempt install. Do you know if there are any articles out there on which wires connect to which wires and how to mount and install and all that? I plan to pull the heater faceplate tomorrow because I need to connect up the map light, radio, and heater control wires so that part is complete. I also need to figure out how the lighter connects.... Any advice?

How to take apart radio?
Here's the results. I wound up using a silver pen from my local grocery store. I think it looks really good. I can't say the finish is an exact match to the original, mostly because I dont have one to compare it to, but I am very happy with it. You can see, I did get some ink in the middle of the letter 'o' and Im not sure how to fix that (I'll probably just leave it as it is so small and minor). I dont think I would have had the patience or steady hand to deal with a nail polish brush - the silver pen applicator tip was the exact perfect size for me..... The first pic is the radio before it was cleaned and finished, and the 2nd is after my mini restoration... Thanks 26th and Enrique for the pointers. You guys rule

How to take apart radio?
OK - this should be an easy one. I just got a 1970 radio as the PO of my car sold it to me with no radio (and for some stupid reason I want the car to be original). It is really dirty so I need to take of the knobs and faceplate to clean it. I've been gently twisting and pulling on the knobs to get them off but nothing wants to come off. I am really good at breaking stuff trying to do this so I thought I'd swallow my pride and ask for help. How do you get the knobs and faceplate off? Oh....and while we're at it. Any pointers on cleaning/refurbishing one of these? The silver that should be above the knobs is worn off. Any clever ways to bring that back (like model airplane paint and a steady hand?)? The pots turn OK but not super smooth. What do I spray in there to make it better? Thanks...

Leaky fuel tank connection?
I dug into the vent hose today and it was quite loose. The hose clamp wasn't really holding the hose to the tank tube. I cleaned it all off and tightened it. Based on the small amount that is leaking I think it might just be whatever might build up in the vent hose coming back out through a loose connection. I think this will hold me till I can do a POR15 job in the spring

Tank/Fuel leak????
Believe me - that is in my plans. Just waiting for the time and resources to tackle that one...

Leaky fuel tank connection?
I've read that POR15 thread and that looks like a great way to go. I have filled it to the top once and gas poured out the bottom of the car so I think I have a cracked filler hose as well. Once the level went down a bit the gas stopped pouring out. I get maybe 2 drops per week from this leak. Where can you get replacement tanks and all of the associated hoses?

Leaky fuel tank connection?
Hey guys, Please take a look at these pics. You can see that a small amount of fuel is leaking from my gas tank. It runs down the sides and gets all dirty and brown on it's way to my garage floor. I swear for the first month I had the car it didn't have this leak and I am sure I have driven way more than the last 2 PO's. It appears to be coming from that hose connection but I am not sure. Does this look familiar to anyone? If it is from that hose, how easy is that to fix? Thanks as always. You guys are the best and I know I ask alot of questions. I hope these threads benefit others with similar issues....

$%^&ing emissions!!
You have to meet 1 of the 2 things in section 1 and it is certainly more than 15 years old. I feel I meet both of the second requirement because I only drive it once a week to go to the car show, or maybe to dinner with my wife. I have collector car insurance which limits the mileage. . . I'll be sure to tell you how my battle with the state turns out. It pays to read the laws rather than trust the folks at the DMV. They are all really nice but I doubt they have read the laws.

$%^&ing emissions!!
I read through all of the state laws for Arizona last night and I have concluded that I dont need an emissions test. The official law disagrees with the state website and brochures. Here is who the website and brochures exempt: Exempted Vehicles Model year 2001 or newer, except reconstructed, vehicles Model year 2003 or newer original equipment alternative fuel vehicles Model year 1966 and older vehicles Apportioned vehicles (licensed in more than one state) Electric powered, golf carts or vehicles with engine displacement of less than 90cc Vehicles leased to a person residing outside the emission control areas Vehicles transferred between dealers (wholesale) If you go to the state law, collector vehicles are also exempted. What defines a collector vehicle? Here is what the law says: Z. For the purposes of this section, "collectible vehicle" means a vehicle that complies with both of the following: 1. Either: (a) Bears a model year date of original manufacture that is at least fifteen years old. ( Is of unique or rare design, of limited production and an object of curiosity. 2. Meets both of the following criteria: (a) Is maintained primarily for use in car club activities, exhibitions, parades or other functions of public interest or for a private collection and is used only infrequently for other purposes. ( Has a collectible vehicle or classic automobile insurance coverage that restricts the collectible vehicle mileage or use, or both, and requires the owner to have another vehicle for personal use. So now I get to print out the law and go to the DMV and argue with them that their policies are inconsistent with the law. That doesnt mean I dont want to fix my rich mix but I gotta get this thing registered. The moral of the story? From what you all have said, and what I have experienced, the state employees don't know what they are talking about....
