  1. To me, it looks like your brake booster is not of the correct type. I believe the ones that came stock on the Z were Hitachi branded. Here's a pic of how mine looks, sorry about the bad pic, these were taken a while ago. As you can see in the second picture, there's a ton of clearance on mine.

It's more than likely your belt, make sure that both pulleys are clean and free of grease.

whatever you'd want her to say. Lets say that you leave the door open, with what I was going to build, you would be able to record exactly what you wanted it to say. So, lets say you want the box to tell you "hey big boy, you left the door open", you'd get someone to record it onto the little microchip using a microphone, hook it up to the door plunger and fusebox, and voila, a talking lady. I think the recording kit ran for like $12 at radioshack.

You could actually design your own "talking lady" using some simple wiring pieces from radio shack. I was thinking about building a prototype, but decided it'd be too much work.
  5. all I want to do is see how it looks in person, .

alright guys, this may be "politically incorrect", but I don't really find it to be myself, but to each his own. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/flash/ghettodelta.html
  7. I'm looking to replace my turn signal buckets and front lower valence with an air dam, but I want to see one installed on a 240Z in person before I decide to buy it. I was looking at this air dam http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD1/50-1411 or even the same air dam, but without the brake ducts. Is there anyone in Sacramento that has this air dam installed (or the one w/o the brake ducts) that would be willing to let me admire their beautiful Z?
  8. I've seen a single SU turbo setup before, but forgot where. I don't think it was a "Turbo Tom" setup though.

Carl, thanks for the awesome post. The story and the way you described it definitely made me think in a different perspective. I think I provoked the situation by going through the stop sign as I did. I feel like that it was his fault, because of the way he reacted to the whole situation. I think that if I were faced with that again (which I have been), I sit there and wave the other person on, instead of potentially starting another car chase as before.

On one hand it could be your fault, since it seems like you provoked the situation a little bit, but we all do when faced with what happened. The guys on Zcar.com seem to be just a little high and mighty for their own good; I've gone on the forum to ask people their opinion on an accident I was in with the Z, and every single one of the people who posted said that it was 100% my fault. When the insurance agency reviewed the case, and the other driver admitted fault to the accident, they immediately replied that I was a cheating bastard and should admit fault to an accident that I had not caused. Needless to say, I stay away from Zcar.com. I was in a pretty bad situation with road rage, a little less than a year ago. I was on the main road right down the street from my house, driving my truck, and I came up to a four way stop. I got to the stop sign just a second before this red mercury did (he was coming off of a side street and was at my right). And he seemed to be a little impatient, so I did a quick pause at the stop sign and kept going (I did a quick stop, but I did stop). As I'm going through the intersection, the mercury pulls up on the right side of my truck like he is going to hit me. I'm in the car with my girlfriend, so I'm in no hurry to start a confrontation, so I just keep driving, ignoring the guy. He slams on his brakes, falls behind me, and then passes me on the right going about 40 (speed limit is 30). He pulls right in front of me at the light, locks up his brakes, and slides to a halt. I stop about six car lengths behind him, and just keep my head down, but enough to be able to see the guy and what he was going to do. He leans out of his car and turns around, and starts yelling at me about how I'm an idiot, and that I shouldn't have ran the stop sign, and that he's going to show me a lesson. I don't do anything, but I keep my head down, and keep my eyes on him. He gets back in the car in a hurry, and I think that he's going to give up, but in a split second, he slams the mercury into reverse and proceeds to squeal backwards and ram my truck. I'm not going to have any part of this, so I slam the truck into reverse, drop the clutch, and start burning the tires in reverse. I was hauling arse back down the street while this guy is trying to hit me, trying to protect my girlfriend and myself. The guy kind of swerved a little bit into the circle k right next to the light, so I locked the brakes up on the truck, spun it around, slammed it into first, and hauled arse back down the street. I waited down a side street for a few seconds, both of us frightened, and decided the guy was probably gone by then. I then went back down the street, and made a right hand turn at the light, and started going on down the street when the mercury comes out of the circle k parking lot, and proceeds to chase me and try to ram me. I accelerated as fast as the little 4 cylinder in the truck would allow me to go, but it was to no avail. The mercury was still faster than me. He proceeded to try to sideswipe me, but every time he would, I'd slam on the brakes and avoid him. I then remembered that I had my cell phone with me, and I had my girlfriend call 911. They placed her on HOLD, and when they came back, I had already lost the guy by making a u-turn in the street and ducking down a side road. We gave the police the guys license plate number, and told them what street he lived on, and they did nothing. They said they'd send a unit out in the area to see if the guy was still harassing other drivers, but I didn't see a single cop in the area that day. Kind of makes you angry, especially when they put you on hold.
  12. I was at the San Jose Grand Prix this weekend, and I was walking across the track when I spotted someone wearing a Classic Zcar shirt. I went to speak to him, but the crowd was too thick? So, who else was there besides me?
  13. thanks. Jeremy Clarkson is my hero too!
  14. has anyone ever used the G-Tech Pro in their Z?
  15. hey guys, I am in desperate need of some body pieces for my Z. I need to get a lower valence, and a left side turn signal bucket. I don't need the signal, just the bare bucket. Mine was damaged in my accident, and now my dad is getting on me about driving his truck, so it's either spend $400 on some sheet metal, or see if any Z guys are willing to sell some parts for a good price. I'm in Sacramento, CA, and I am willing to drive a little ways to pick it up, if the price is right. Thanks guys.

I got all of my pieces, in brand new condition, minus the valence, for $106.

my 240Z had the fiberglass headlight buckets, but I figured that if I can get the metal ones for cheap, I might as well get them.

alright guys, just a quick and simple question. I need a hood, left fender, headlight buckets, and a lower valence for my 240Z. I was looking around at the local junkyards, and found a 280z that had all of these parts on them. My question is (and I know it's really basic, forgive me) will these parts from the 280z fit on my 240z just fine? I know there isn't too much of a difference in the 280's body over the 240, with the exception of bumpers, marker lenses, taillights, emblems, etc. So, will these work? I'm going to pull them tomorrow if they will!
  19. alright, I feel kind of stupid, but I know I have to ask. I was told that the ballast resistor was used to reduce static interference on the car stereo. Is this correct? This is the way that my pertronix is wired now, so how would I rewire it without the ballast resistor, and still have the tach work? Sorry for the lame questions, I just don't want to wire the car wrong, since she's my daily driver for the moment.
  20. My setup is the stock '72 distributor with Pertronix electronic points. I've had this problem with both points style and my Pertronix setup. It was hot today, around 95*, and no issue with the tach. The tach issue just baffles me. EScalon, when you talk about a resistor, are we talking about the ballast resistor? That's the only resistor on my coil.
  21. I have experienced some weird things with my tach, but only when it's really hot outside. For some reason, my tach will read incorrectly at times, where when the engine is not running, but the key is in the on position, the tach will point at 1k, although the engine is not running. I do know that the tach gets it's signal from the coil, so I checked all of my wiring, and everything is fine, but the tach would still read incorrectly. I allowed the engine to cool, and drove it later that night (it was 100* yesterday when this happened) and the tach read correctly again. What is wrong with my Z?
  22. alright, I wired my stereo today, and it works fine. The way that the P.O./Stereo Installer ran it was the yellow wire for the deck ran to the large white wire with red stripe that connects to the ignition switch wiring harness, the red wire on the stereo connects to a blue wire in the main wiring harness, and the ground is just grounded somewhere on the body.
  23. alright, so I went outside today, armed with my trusty ohmeter, and did some poking around. The previous owner/stereo installer people ran the always hot/powered wire (yellow) to the white wire with red stripe that connects to the ignition switch harness via a "T" splice connector. I found that the red wire ran to another wire (which I will repost the color tomorrow morning when I can see it ), and the ground wire is just a general ground anywhere on the body. As for the antenna wiring, I didn't worry about it, since my antenna motor works but fails to raise and lower the antenna. I should be able to install the tape deck tomorrow. It's an older Kenwood tape deck, it's no Pioneer cd deck, but it'll do the trick.
  24. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/wiringdiagrams/72_240z_wiring.pdf this one says that the fusible link goes into the fusebox (blue) and the other wire runs into the wiring for the oil sending unit...
