  1. Oh, I don't have a FSM for this car yet, as I am not sure with the L28 which year I should get!
  2. Also, have the original 240Z SU carbs.
  3. Have upgraded with electronic ignition, believe the head is matching. Won't the timing and other areas of adjustment be different if I don't have the same set up as original? Would the timing, idle, plug gap and air/fuel mixture be different? Maybe I am overanalyzing this. :nervous:
  4. I have a mid-70's engine (N42 block) in my early 70 Z. As I look at keeping it well-tuned, which FSM should I follow to keep it running well? A 280Z FSM would have pollution control stuff that I don't have (smog controls removed). A 240Z FSM would deal with an L24 engine and specs should be different. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  5. Question: is there a way to convert louvers from the bolt on version to the slip under the window seal type? I have a friend that will give me a set of louvers but they require bolting on to the car, which I do not want to do. Any thoughts?
  6. Zedyone, any update on the clunk?

I had my 4 speed tranny and R180 diff replaced last year with an 83 5 speed and R200 diff. Love the upgrade!! I have had seals/gaskets replaced on both recently, as well as all bushings, springs and struts underneath. Problem: was in a parking lot, went over a speed bump, foot accidently slipped off the clutch (popped the clutch), and, as the tires squealed slightly, I heard a loud clunk/bang in the tranny tunnel. It seemed to be right next to me. I know the ujoints are fine, the mounts for the tranny and diff are new and were just checked. Could it have anything to do with the replacement tranny and diff? Can't see anything visibly. I have duplicated this problem again, under similar circumstances of quick acceleration. It is the only time it makes the noise, never when I am already moving. Any thoughts? Thanks!

The panels I got from MSA about 1 1/2 years ago were the same way; needed the pull handle bolt holes drilled through the panel. Otherwise, they are great!
  9. Where did you get the side stripes? Are they the "authentic" ones? Car looks great!!
  10. As others have said, Dave, nice engine bay! Nice to know that you can have nice results with little cost and even leaving the engine in. I had my car painted and didn't get the engine bay done. It is in need! You have inspired me!!

Has anyone purchased the repro or JDM headlight covers with the chrome rings from them? They look nice, a bit pricey but there are no other options right now. I know Will (his30.com) is looking into making them eventually, but just wondering if anyone can provide feedback on the Z Car Customs version. Thanks!
  12. Good point, Ron, based upon the other "rare" items one can find on Ebay, this would be a true "find"!!!
  13. Would love to know when these were installed, and why aren't the correct belts in place. Oh well, another mystery that will not be solved! I have switched to the new MSA retractable lap and shoulder belt combo, so will put these in storage ...
  14. This is all that was in the car, Arne, assumed they were original. There were no shoulder belts, just the lap belts in the car. Now I am thinking that a prior owner replaced the existing belts with these at some time. Not sure why.
  15. I am cleaning out parts for and from my 1/70 Z. I was looking at the seat belts and noticed that they had some very early dates stamped on them; 7/69 on one set and 8/69 on the other set. Interesting stuff written on the label; Datsun Rear part #TK-656-34A, manufacturer is Takata Kojyo Co, Ltd. I have to believe that these came with the car (I am 3rd owner). I am surprised by the early dates. Any comments/input?
  16. Thanks, Will, will look into the neoprene foam option. Is there any particular source you would recommend?
  17. Will, how would you go about sealing the openings for the hatch vents? I have a decent quality vent (part #90820-e4100) but always concerned about exhaust concerns. Another question: how would you insulate around the hatch latch so exhaust wouldn't get in? I am analyzing all exhaust leak options and any answers regarding the hatch would be appreciated! Thanks!

Just for clarification, would a fog machine work for this, or is a smoke machine the only way to do this? I found fog machines are easier to find around here ...

I have installed an 83 5 speed into my 70 Z. I have read in previous threads about an "inner shift boot" that protects the top of the tranny from dirt, etc. Mine does not have this, is it supposed to? I never saw one on my original 4 speed, so not familiar with it. This is not the inner rubber boot that goes under the shift boot over the console, but one underneath it. If there is one, what is the part number? Would like to order one! Thanks!

Arne, you are right on, it measures out to -10 mm or -3/8" offset. Should have just used your measurements and saved myself the effort!

Thanks, Arne and Tom, appreciate the quick responses. Will let you know what I come up with, Arne.

Probably a dumb question, but I have a set of aluminum wheels I am selling and want to confirm if there is any offset on them. Is there something stamped on the wheel to tell, or is there a way to measure it? Thanks!
  24. Sorry, Frank, don't have one.

I am selling one (Nissan OHC) in the classifieds for $20, plus shipping.
