  1. So, you still use the housing that the button was in, and replace the plastic plunger button with a bolt and a nut to lock in the correct length?
  2. Sorry, could someone explain the replacement "bolt and nut"? Thanks!
  3. Bo, was it a problem putting the door panel over it? Did it fit correctly?
  4. I am to the point of installing Dynamat or Fatmat in my doors. What do you recommend; installing the sound deadener on the inside of the outer door shell, or install it inside the door panel? If inside the door panel, does it screw up the panel attaching to the inside of the door? Thanks!
  5. Thanks,E, I appreciate the comments on adding Dynamat or Fatmat on the firewall AND under the cowl, that makes good sense. Am looking at the Hot Rod Air system for the A/C, as they will be able to use my existing controls to work the A/C, while replacing the huge heater box, fan, etc, with a more streamlined unit. I can't use the original A/C systems because they can't handle heat around 110 to 115 degrees! Six Shooter, I don't plan on a lot of driving while I wait for my dash to be returned, just to get additional work done. The 260z dash you mention is probably not worth the cost of shipping and it may not fit anyway. I appreciate the thought!
  6. Thanks, E. Just figured I could get some additional work done while I am waiting the 5 or 6 weeks for the dash to be returned to me. With the rest of the interior torn out, I would like to get the floorboards under each seat repaired, new carpet, etc, installed and look at putting an a/c unit while the dash is out. That is my thought, if it could be done!
  7. Eric, I am sending my dash/frame and original gauges in to the dash restoration place, therefore, no frame to keep in place. Would just have the harness and, somehow, prop the gauges up to view while I drive.
  8. A dumb question :lick:... has anyone ever driven their car without the dash in place? I am sending my dash off to be restored and want to get some internal body work completed, as well as some A/C installation work, while the dash is gone for 5 or 6 weeks. I know I need to have the harness hooked up, with the gauges hooked up (have separate set). Any other thoughts? Thanks!
  9. Bruce, it has been well over a year since you have done your repair, any update? I am planning on following your process this weekend, but want to make sure that there isn't anything else I should know. I share the AZ sun and the damage it can cause! Thanks!
  10. Thanks, Stephen and Arnie for the info. Arnie, I appreciate the pics, which shows me I can remove a few other things that were originally connected to the smog equipment!
  11. I am removing my original air filter and adding the K&N "tuna cans" on my Z. I have determined what to do with the hoses that go into the back of the original air filter housing, but am curious about the valve pictured below. What is it? Did it have something to do with the smog pump (which has been removed)? I am probably going to plug the line from this valve to the original air filter housing, was thinking of removing the valve completely. Your thoughts?
  12. I put nipples in the backs for all except large one from the valve cover. i put a baby filter on the valve cover __________________ Jason King So, Jason, you connected the other hoses to the back of the "tuna cans", and did not plug any of the hoses?
  13. So, there are 5 hoses that go into the back of the original air box, which do I plug (if any) and which to add a push-on or separate filter? There are 2 small hoses (one from each carb), 1 big one from the manifold(?), 1 from the valve cover and 1 from the fuel line(?) or something from the engine wall. Your thoughts? I tried to search for this and didn't have any luck.
  14. Will, not to move ahead too quickly, but I sure look forward to see your repro headlight covers!!:)
  15. Xray, when did you get your covers from Datsun Spirit, and how much did you pay? I have checked their website and found nothing. Thanks!
  16. #1399 has the clear hatch glass, no vertical defrost lines, no tint anywhere.
  17. Looks like a great acquistion, Mike! My original rear glass is without a defroster (#1399), as you said.
  18. Thanks, Stephen and Bart, appreciate the input.
  19. Stephen (sblake1), so you would recommend the Vintage Air system? Living in AZ, where the temps dwell around the 105 to 110 degree levels in the summer, I am looking for something that will handle the heat and cool me down. Does it hook up to an existing duct system, or does it use its own? Thanks, Stephen

    Fatmat

I ordered some in June and never could reach them to confirm shipment, so I cancelled the order through my credit card company. A few weeks later they e-mailed me to say that the order can go through now, that they had trouble with their e-mail, phones, etc. Needless to say, I have not re-ordered.
  21. Thanks for the info!
  22. Rockr69, what size is your spare tire cover?
  23. I just purchased a spare tire cover off of e-bay, but it measured only 17 inches round! The seller is trying to tell me that Datsun made them large and small as original equipment, is this true? He says that this one just covers the full size spare tire, not the opening. Am I missing something? Thanks!
  24. Assuming you removed the fiber stuff on the tranny tunnel, did you put the Fatmat down and put anything else on top before you put the vinyl down? Might not have gotten that far yet, but interested in knowing the best way to install. Thanks!
