  2. I have an original front BRE spoiler and it has no flta surfaces on the bottom either. It is open.
  3. That is funny Mat. He's an entrepreneur in healthcare. I haven't riden in the F1 though, he says my chest is not big enough for that. Next time I'm at the storage facility, I'll take some pictures and share. He has a collection all of us would almost give our right hands for.
  4. My boss has a silver one. Fast as hell. Surprising amount of leg room. But it doesn't even hold a candle against his F1. Now there's a machine!
  5. Bob, I understand what your are saying. Marketing plays an important part, The last fellow that I spoke with at the show mentioned the same thing. He told me that most would not know of the car's originality without an onsite media blitz. For instance, The owner of thte car that won the stock 240z class had mirrors on the ground below both engine and gas tank, a display of datsun publications set in frames, old 2 page magazine ad spreads set in frames, and an easel containg a display board with information on his car. Brilliant! Now, my car was nowhere close to the condition of his z. Maybe someday. But there were alot of people that looked at my car and commented that it was perhaps the most "original Z" at the show. And for me, the biggest plus for the day was not the chance of getting an honorable mention, but being able to share my car with other z fanatics. So I did learn something, and this thread is invaluable with the information presented by all. Happily, I was invited to show the car at the Muckenthaller show later this month by an organizer that attended the WCN.

    You may want to contact Johnny Foster at R&E Collison Center in La Puente. Not far from you on Valley and 9th. He does all of my personal cars and handles our corporate cars as well. He just did a BMW 650 for a firend of mine and it came out beauthiful. He does all of the overflow work for Longo. He has very reasonable pricing as well. Hope this helps. Cell phone 626 926-8088

    Thanks Arne. I was hoping your red car had the same thing as that would give credence to the originality of my dust caps. A fellow at the West Coast Nationals had a nice clean 12/71 car with a 5XXXX serial number with the zinc caps, and he said his were original.

    My dust caps appear to be coated with a brown/green looking substance. While looking at some wheels at MSA that had the hubcaps removed, I noted most of the dust caps to be zinc chromate colored. Did Nissan change during the 1971 year, or are mine an aftermarket verison of the factory part?
  9. This entire thread is related to Official car show judging. And maybe this should be a new thread, or posted on the recent MSA thoughts thread. My only experience at a Z car show is the MSA West Coast Nationals. And based on that experience, it does not matter much whether originality and adherence to strict guidlines are followed due to "the people's choice" awards. As most of you know people can vote for what they feel is the best car in two classes, modified and stock. What I saw win in various stock categories, be it 240, 260 or 280 sometimes won over clearly more original cars that were not as "Shiney" for lack of a better word. For instance, the car that won the 240Z Stock class was a late Series two, that clearly had series one parts installed, that won over another 240 that appeared to have vintage correct parts. But I don't think most attendee's knew what they were looking at. Just my thoughts.

    Had a great time there, much better venue than in front of the MSA store. I may have been mistaken, but it looked like I was the only person sporting our t-shirt. And nobody commented on it.

    Hey Arne. I bought the Z adhesive gel centers from MSA and they don't fit. They look funny, being to small for the Eagle center cap. I used them for my toolbox.

    Great info guys, I can see why no one wants to describe in detail their particular strategies, who knows what lurks within these walls, so to speak. After reading all replies, I now feel that a multilayer approach to security should be my next order of business. I have the stated value insurance policy as well, but that would be small consolation if the car was stolen. Sort of like trying to replace your favorite dog.

    Hi All. I have been driving my car lately, and am starting to worry about theft. I don't want to use an igntion cutout., as a smart theif could just pop the hood and use jumpers to start the car. I am thinking about getting a Club. From what I can determine there are two types: one locks across the steering wheel, the other connects the clutch or brake pedal to the steering wheel. What do ya'll think? Which is better? My only negative thoughts about these devices is that a thief could just unbolt or cut the steering wheel.

    Astrohog. If you are not replacing any of the vent lines you should be ok. Since you will have the tank out you may want to consider replacing the vent lines to the canister and the fuel neck. But be advised, the hoses are not cheap. And if you do replace them, all you will need to do is remove the right rear trim panel and the rear trim panel. They are only secured by the plastic rivets. Buy an extra bag of plastic rivets in case you lose some of the pieces, like I did.
