Carl I agree with you, especially on the cash needed to get it running. My car was almost in the same condition with 28,000 original miles on it (and yellow as well) I have put close to $10k in it so far. I even had to yank the motor and go thru it as the rings had rusted in place, and mine only sat from 1981. Mine is a 2/71. I have seen 1/71 Zs with the 240z emblem rather than the circle side emblem. I have also seen 1/71 Zs with the circle side emblem.
  2. Thanks all. Nathan, I found a brass pipe at the hardware store that works perfectly. Thanks!
  3. In trying to chase down the elusive source of fumes I pulled of the breather hose from the fuel filler hose. There is a piece of plasteic pipe that is about two inches in length that attaches both together. Mine is cracked and that may account for some of the fumes. Any body have any idea what I can use as a replacement? I am going to check hardware stores to see if they have anything close. Does anyone think that I could apply some type of coating to the inside of that pipe that would seal it? So on my way to work this morning I am thinking of how to solve this issue of fumes, etc. I am playing over in my head all that I have learned here from reading all the threads about fume reduction, taillights gaskets, sealing holes, 3 foot long extension tailpipes, weatherstrippting, etc. I'm in the fast lane getting ready to pass an early Z on my right. I am wondering what condition its in as I pull closer. It was a good 500 footer. Then, as I pull even I look in to catch the guys eye and give him a thumbs up for driving a Z ( no matter what condition it is in) and see that he is wearing a face mask. HAHAHAHAHA. He must really have the ever present fume bug in his car. Count my blessing I did.
  4. Ron. They are metal. don't think soaking them would help much. Chris, they are metal, right?
  5. Hi Chris. I also have the Eagle center caps, as does Arne. I have the 14x6 Appliance mags. My center caps just popped in, a little snug. Had no problem with them.

From what I am hearing from you guys, I ain't taking the headliner of. I have so many minor dents on the car now that if he can get most of the dent out, I'll live with it until I hit the lotto and get the exterior done. Ill report back.

Thanks Guys. I have an appoinment with the dent remover on Saturday. I sure don't want to have to remove a perfectly beautiful headliner. Nice to hear from you Enrique!

Woe is me. I had two fold-up picnic tables come tumbling down from my rafters in my garage right on to the roof of my car. I heard a noise in the garage went out and almost puked. Luckily it is a dent and not a creased dent. I'll take her over to the dentmaster and see if he can straighten the panel. Now to research headliner removal.

OK. Someone mentioned the assembly line in Japan. I "borrowed" this picture from Esprist as It was provided to him by Mr. K. Endo.. If my old eyes do not deceive me. I see my car in front, then an orange car, then a red car. Anybody see anything else? Now we can put this to bed once and for all. .
  11. Rob. Since I live in LA I cant make it. A bridge to far. But my car was purchased from Winters Motors In Sac orginally. So she'll be there in spirit.

Ok. Randy is the owner's name. His website is http://www.vintagerubber.com. He is spooling up production now from what he told me. Again folks, I have not seen his products, but we discussed at length the problems that alot of us were having with the orther products, and he said that is not the case from what he is making. He owns the tooling himself. For what it is worth, as Buffalo Springfield would say.

Last week at a Car show in Fullerton I met a guy that was reproducing the weather strips. I have his card at home. Maybe his product will work. He is also making full replacment weather stripping packages for the Z cars. I have no financial interest in this bit thought I would pass this info along. I'll look for his business card tonight (After the Laker game)

The car looks great Rich. Can't wait to see it live! My pleasure.
  15. The radiator hoses were excellent. I too am looking forward to the heater hoses. Quite an invaluable service you are doing for the Z community Esprist!

  22. My father iin law installed fog lamps when he bought the car. The installer put in a radio shack spst cheap switch above the hazard flasher. It always bothered me. I searched for the original JDM switch with no luck as a replacement. So, I had to make do with this. I hope you can see the pictures. I took them with a flashlight at 10pm last night. It won't fool the discriminating amongst us, but...i like it.

Dave. I did exactly as you advised. I was able to narrow it down to the left front marker light. It was shorting out. Thanks. There really is a striking increase it light output on all four corners and a noticeable increase in the ever so dim dash lights. Appreciate your help with this.

Thanks Dave. That helps tremendously. I can't get to the car until tomorrow and then I will report back. I really appreciate your advice.

Prior to today, my tail lights were working. I have Dave's front turn signal harness. Love it to Death, as Alice Cooper would say. I went to install Dave's Parking light/instrument light upgrade. I followed the directions. As soon as I installed it I blew the 15a inline fuse. Also the tail light fuse. Then no tail lights. I took it out of the circuit. Still blowing tl fuse. So I pull out the multi meter. Got a circuit from the fusebox screw to the left fuse holder on the TL fuse. Then I pulled the large connector apart under the steering wheel (this is the one that Daves mod plugs into). I have continuity from the same aforementioned screw to the green/white wire. This is not a problem with Dave's product, rather something that I did. So there must be a short between the two? Does this wire go directly from the connector to the fuse box? Dave any ideas oh electrical guru? Any ideas? May I have pulled something loose from under the dash? Thanks in advance! I have brake, stop and turn signal lights.
