  1. Maybe someone can chime in regarding an open vacuum line and how that would affect the running of the car? Did you remove everyting from the balance tube?
  2. Doug, I did the swap and I didn't use the big spacer. Not sure why you would need them. Are your chokes working properly? Are your float and mixture screws adjusted. Did you put oil in the carbs? It could be several things. I am going through the same swap and I haven't gotten all the kinks worked out either. Bill
  3. Well done Ken!
  4. Joe, Sent you a PM. Check that you have fuel in your filter. Mine needed to be primed for some reason. Once I did that, then I got fuel. Bill

Well, I am finally getting gas, but it won't start. On to the next issue...

I just rebuilt the SU's and can only assume that if the gas is not pumping, then the fuel pump is broken. I am guessing that I have a broken fuel line somewhere, but not sure how it could happen by simply sitting the garage.

So I replaced my flat tops on my 73 w/ round tops and now I am getting absolutely no gas. I was getting gas before the swap, but now NOTHING. I tore apart the fuel pump and it appears to work fine. Manual operation proves to me that I am getting sucking and blowing. Sorry for lack of technical terms. I put it all back together and still nothing. And yes, there is gas in the tank. Any ideas before I go completely insane? Tx, Bill

Might be the throttle linkage and/or the carbs. Operate the throttle in the engine bay and see if it is sticking. If not, look to see that the basic carb function is working properly. Bill

Eric, Looks pretty nice! Is it blue or more of a turquoise? I guess I need to get a pic of my car. Need to finish the carbs and get it out of the garage first. Looks like the 240z style bumper on the front as well. Didn't all 280's have the bigger bumpers? Bill

Is it every time you come to a stop or say only when the blinker is turned on? The reason I ask, maybe there is an electrical short in the system. Bill

Cethern, Where in Colorado? I am in the Springs. Bill

    Thanks moonpup.

Assuming you have SU's, pull the air cleaner and see if you are getting too much gas. You can also see if the carbs are functioning properly by watching them while you rev the engine. You can also check the carbs functionality with the engine off. See if the carb pistons are moving like you expect. Check the timing as well. Just some ideas to start... Bill

Also, just as a double check on the float ear sizes. Do the long ears go on the rear carb. I have the short ears on my rear carb, so it appears that the previous owner rebuilt the carbs and reversed the float lids. The ZT video says the long ears are on the rear carb. Just want to recomfirm before I put them on the car! Tx, Bill

Bruce from Ztherapy said that is how they send them. Not sure why, but hey. I just rewatched the video and Scott says that the "long" ears are on the rear carb. Is that right? Tx, Bill

I am a bit confused due to the different lengths that I removed, but the same lengths in the kit. I did not get extra washers in the kit, but can easily adjust the floats accordingly. Just wanted a sanity check on what I was installing. Are both needle/seat sets supposed to be exactly the same? Bill

I am putting my rebuild kit on from Ztherapy and noticed that my old setup on my 72 carbs had 2 different length needle/seats. Where as the rebuild kit from Ztherapy has both of them the same size. Does this sound right and do I just adjust the float accordingly? I sent Bruce a note, but wanted the quickest response. Tx, Bill

Daddz, Do you have a favorite? How is the 350? I might have to trade in the 4runner! Beandip, Thanks for the input.

Hey Bryan, Yea, that really sucks. How tough was the change-out? I have never done it, but the previous owner put on a stationary antenna as opposed to the electric one. Daddz, where do you keep all those cars? Tx, Bill
  20. Hi Ken, Thanks for input. I am more talking about the lines that feed directly to the carb, not the manifold. I don't have them in front of me, but from what I remember, the carbs themselves have lines where antifreeze flows. These are the connections I am thinking about plugging or re-routing. Does that make sense? Tx, Bill
  21. Since the roundtops don't use the water lines, I am wondering if I route a line from the back connection to the front connection or just simply somehow plug the 2 holes? Bill
  22. Wow! What about the vacuum advance?
  23. I had a few more questions. What about the water lines into and out of the flattops. Can I simply route a water line around them or can I just plug the holes somehow? I haven't tackled all the vacuum lines, etc yet... Tx, Bill
  24. Yea, I took a look at it and there is a seem between the heat shield and the piece that directs hot air back to the air cleaner. As you said, it appears I can attach them at that seem and I don't think they will move around.
  25. I have a 73 and am converting over to 72 SU's. I got the flat tops off the car, but noticed that there are not holes in the heat shield to connect the springs from the carbs. do I need a new heat shield or can I simple add some holes to my existing shields? How critical are the locations? Tx, Bill
