Re-Assembly
Excellent, excellent! I looked over your whole gallery, you've done an outstanding job. Very detailed, very clean. I painted my car in may garage too. Not a total overhaul like you, but a metal-up repaint. Nothing but body though i.e. interior, driveline, underhood etc. left in place. Wish I had the time and resources to do it like you did, but it took me ~18 months as it was :-) Anyway, excellent job! You should be very proud!

anyone have 71-73 rear overrider bar to sell
I've got a pretty nice one I bought a few years ago on e-bay and never put on. I think it came in the original box, but I can't remember. Its stored with some things I bought but didn't end up using after my re-paint - inc. front overrider bar (never used, in original box) and 2 sets of rear louvers.

poorly fitting dash cover
Also, I settled on a half-dash cap after calling around other Z parts retailers to find out who made their full-face dash caps. All of them used the same vendor that MSA used, so I gave up :-\ -Ken

poorly fitting dash cover
I can't recall if it fit any better or any worse or just as bad, but it still didn't fit :-\ I ended up shipping it back, getting credit from MSA, and using that for a half-dash cover and some other stuff. The half-dash cover worked out pretty well. It (unintentionally) fools a lot of people into thinking I have a new dash until they take a good, hard look. I tend not to notice it myself really anymore.... -Ken P.

Re-tapping receiver plate inside door jamb
Jim, On my '73, there's a piece of metal that partially blocks my attempts to add extra nuts onto the end of the bolts. I don't see it in your picture. That's a pic of the passenger side, correct? -Ken

Back to KYB vs. Tokico....
Well I bit the bullet 2 weeks ago and ordered the Tokico HP set from a dealer on e-bay (not jdmwerks): strut inserts and springs for $350 shipped. My local club's Tech Guru is installing them for me and dialing everything in. He had me order bump-steer spacers from MSA as well, and my front diff mount was crumbling so that's getting replaced too. Called last night and told me he had the suspension buttoned up and took her for a spin. Said the ride was smooth yet firm, though not for the track (his car is set up for the track). Soaks up small bumps, even railroad tracks pretty well. Since my car's a 73 and had the rear sway bar mounts, he took an old bar off one of his parts cars, cleaned it up and put it on too. All in all, I'm imagining a significant departure in ride and handling from my sagging-springs, worn-out-shocks, disintegrated-diff-mount, scraping-on-the-ground Z that I remember... I guess I'll see as soon as the weather improves and I can go pick her up :-) -Ken

How to properly remove Hazard switch (pull-type)
I'm just glad another (rare) Hazard pull-knob has been saved from the same fate as my car's original pull-knob ;-)

Temporarily Protecting Bare Metal
When I repainted by Z, it took the better part of a year to strip the paint panel by panel, and I used Picklex 20 to keep the metal from rusting. It gets rid of old rust too. I never had any problems with rust starting to form, and when it was time to lay down primer on anythin gi Used Picklex 20 on, I just scuffed it with a green scuff pad first. The stuff works very well (people rave about it on the forums at autobodystore.com),the only caveat being its not compatible with etching primers... -Ken P.

Any respirator suggestions for body and blasting?
When it was time to paint my Z, I didn't fool around. I got a HobbyAir supplied air (positive pressure) respirator with a full hood. To do the job right, you're going to be in "the booth" (in my case, PVC!) for hours so you might as well be comfortable and be able to see well. And don't forget, iso's can be absorbed through your skin and eyes as well. That's another reason to get a full hood. I didn't want to shave my beard either so that was yet another reason to get a full hood. I got my setup with some additional lense covers (very handy) for a very good price at autobodystore.com Don't skimp on your health and safety :-) -Ken P. P.S. The difference between a HobbyAir and a ProAir system is the type of air hose it comes with. The ProAir has an OSHA-approved hose.
