  1. A project 308 is a big project to undertake! But if it's been (relatively) cared for, they are quite reliable for Ferraris and MAN are they fun to drive. Diseaszd is the guy in Virginia with the cool Z's and 510's. I recalled Carl Beck after I posted, the guy in Washington (or Oregon) had a nice red / orange Z - good guy, moved on to a Porsche. I think he's still here as I saw his Porsche from visiting the site. Obviously Mike is still running the joint, also good to see!
  2. And here I thought I was the only one that saw this ad!!!
  3. Having been away, I guess I feel a little more emboldened to weigh in here. While I get the negative feelings towards OP (I was also shocked at the price), keep in mind that it's in his right to back out of a sale. He's not betrothed to ANYONE but himself, and no one should fault him for that. It seems to me that when you think you are getting a great deal, and it changes, there's a sense of "what if?". But that's unfair to the OP - I agree with Mike, I don't think he was being a jerk, he simply didn't know any better. Having spent MANY years (and over 20,000 posts) on Ferrari Chat, I can tell you that forum-based classified ads are ALWAYS a hornet's nest. Invariably, somebody with an attitude will nitpick a car ("that's not the original widget for that year!") or knock the seller ("you are priced too high!") - it's a **** show. I had this discussion with Ferrari Chat's owner, and I'm saying it here for Mike to see...I haven't posted in a long time, so the forum classifieds are new to me. I remember DatsunClassified.com, that's a better vehicle unless there are clear rules not to post commentary other than questions about the car and inquiries. The bigger fear, folks, is that you'll scare away prospective sellers. As these become more desirable and rare, that's not what we want. I'm sick of seeing the garbage posted on Hemmings and fly by night flippers looking to make a buck. It's hard enough trying to find a good car and give it a good home. You can flame me, but I don't think this is a good practice. Let's encourage the OP - put bad feelings aside - and let's see if someone here can give the car a good home. I'm STRONGLY considering selling my Ferrari or my Jag E-Type to get back in the Z game, and a car like this would be of interest to me. If we don't encourage non-members, we'd never get a shot... FWIW. Hoping OP sold it to a ClassicZCars member!!! Either way GLWS!
  4. Man that's AWESOME! Here I was about to post, I lost my pics of my '76 280Z that I purchased in 1986. I am a Brooklyn-born Italian, and live by the Jersey Shore, I was rockin the big hair and Z. Cavs way before The Situation was even BORN!!! I definitely need a wig to recreate those pics!
  5. LOL! Well - I'm calling myself old for sure! What's been going on here - anything exciting? Definitely looks different, and I'm guessing a lot more members? Are many of the stalwarts still here (man, I forgot the names, but the gentleman in Florida with the early Z's, the father / son in Virginia I mentioned, and of course there was the gent in Washington that sold his 240Z for a Porsche...my memory is SHOT!!!)?
  6. Yes, I'm very lucky to have the cars I have. As they say, however, absence makes the heart grow fonder!!! I have 2 children that will be nearing college soon, so the cars may not be with me forever. But I'll always be a car guy, so while I may not have a Ferrari or Jaguar, maybe something different (another Z car or maybe a Corvette?...not sure). Glad to see that Z's are getting love in Europe!!!
  7. I see some old names / faces in this thread, that's great to see! I'm glad the folks from this community are still around to help, the Z group is fantastic! I might have some unique perspective - I had a few Z's in the past, the most recent was my 1972 shown in my avatar. Around the same time I purchased it, I bought a 1966 Jaguar E-Type, and it needed some work, so the Z had to go. I sold it for $5,000 (!!!), and while I don't regret it, I miss the car. I too have seen the Z car pricing of late, it's both a blessing and a curse. A blessing in the sense that these cars are finally getting their due, but a curse in that I simply won't pay the money people are asking. Along the way, I purchased a Ferrari 308 QV, which is a real hoot. I love it - it took me YEARS to find one, but I did. I was over on Ferrari Chat (another forum like Classic Z Cars) almost as long as I've been here and it finally happened about 4 years ago. My point is, patience is a virtue. While a 996 might give you the enjoyment of a modern car (and believe me, don't take that for granted. Even my '84 308 is still "old", and I at times I yearn for a modern classic), there's so much character in these old cars. Yes, they aren't necessarily the best daily drivers. They may be hot, they may smell, they may not be fast, but they are a time machine. I had a Z when I was in high school, and it was the greatest thing in the world to me then. When I had my 240Z, I felt like a kid again. I pop back in here from time to time, hoping maybe to get lucky and get a nice Z car. Or, maybe I'll sell the Jag or Ferrari and convince the guy in Virginia (Brian??) that has all the awesome Z's and 510's with his dad to sell me one!!! Good luck either way!!
  8. Look at that - I go away for a year and a whole new group of folks have popped in! Great work so far on the 240Z, keep it going and good luck! I MISS MINE!!!
  9. Apologies if this has been posted already, I didn't see it. Was watching an episode of "What's My Car Worth" and there was a '71 240Z featured. This car had Panasports and lens covers, but appeared to be in decent shape and otherwise stock. The assessor (I think his name is Josh) said it was a condition 3 car - I thought it was at least a 2. He did cite the non-standard items. The owner thought the car would go for $20K at auction. Keith Martin said $22K. The car got $23K - nice number for a nice car. Martin did a little profile, and compared the 240Z to the Porsche 911 of the same era. He owned one, and noted that it did almost everything right, and absolutely smoked the British sports cars of the time. Nicely done, and I appreciated the coverage. Anyone else catch it?
  10. I meant to add that remember this is "asking" price. Shoot, they could "ask" $1M for the car, doesn't mean they'll get it !!! :: :: :: :: As a point of reference, I am trying to sell my 2000 Lexus GS400. In the condition it is in (fair), KBB tells me it's worth ~$6K, but I can't get rid of it for $3K...go figure.
  11. It's long been my opinion that although the economy has stalled, there is "money on the sidelines". That is, there are people with disposable income, but aren't using it unless necessary. Seems like classic cars in general are taking off. I purchased a Ferrari 308 a little more than 2 years ago for less than $30K, and right now my model is running around $60K (!!!!). I purchased my '66 XKE for under $20K about 10 years ago, now worth about $80K. Just had an offer for $70K that I turned down. I'm not surprised that Z cars in general are commanding a higher premium. Great cars that have been underappreciated. I agree on the comment about automatic cars too, they may not get the same as a manual, but I don't think they'll lag much if the car is of high quality, as noted here.
  12. Short answer - no. $4K is all the money for that car, as others have noted, there are better choices. As someone that spent nearly 20 years looking for a Ferrari (ok, not all 20 were "serious), I looked at a lot of bad cars before finally getting one. In the Ferrari world we say "beware of red mist" - don't be so enamored with the car that you purchase something that will devour your wallet. Same applies here - while the number of really good Z cars may be increasing in value, there are deals to be had. Keep looking.
  13. Good job and congrats. On the subject of the FI, you could convert to carbs - don't recall how "easy" that is, but if you were looking to mod it, might be a better bet...
  14. I'm not sure where to post this, so if it's not relevant, mods please move. I have a 2000 Lexus GS400 that I am trying to sell. Body and engine are in great shape, but it does need work as I work from home and it sits...not good. Nothing is major repair, but the winshield is cracked - that's probably scaring a few off. It's just not selling - not sure why, but partially because I've been lax in promoting / selling it (plus I had a few eBay scammers hit me up - since I've been on eBay for 15 years or so, you aren't scamming me easily). Then I thought - maybe I could get someone to trade? I'd love to get back into the Z game, even a 280Z, just need something that's not destroyed (preferably running and no major rust issues). Anyone interested? Is this better for Hybridz? Am I crazy??? (Ok - DON'T answer that, I already know the answer ). Open to ideas....help!
  15. Just got the email on this - happy to see it!
  16. Mind boggling...and this coming from a guy that lives in NJ.
  17. Agreed - although still some negative comments I saw on one board, something like "you see one Z, you've seen them all"...huh? I own a Ferrari 308 and a Jag E-Type - doesn't that same comment apply then? The ignorance of some people - you simply can't change the perceptions. On another note, I remember Carl Beck showed his Baja Z at the Amelia Island Concours - referenced in the artice...
  18. Thanks! Good to pay a visit, I missed it here...
  19. Wow - what a peach that is! If only I could find one like that...best of luck!
  20. When you ever consider selling one of those Z cars - look me up. I've been off this board regularly since I sold my car a few years back, but I never forgot your car(s)...they look perfect, exactly how I would do a "restomod" Z. Good luck with all of them!
  21. Wow - it's been awhile since I've posted here, can't believe it's been 5+ years since I sold my 240Z! Still own my E-Type and I did ultimately add that Ferrari 308 (as well as another Jag - 85 XJS V12)! In due time, I will get another Z car, but I'm looking to do something like what Diseaszd has done...maybe a bit ambitious, because money is always tight. Before I know it, my kids will be in college, but I'm always scheming for that next toy. I know there were some others here that sold their cars (I believe @Arne was one) - are they still around? I do lurk from time to time, but seem to spend a lot of time over in the Ferrari forum world... Any way - hope everyone is great and driving their cars! If you are in the Monmouth / Ocean County area, there are Cars and Coffee type events in Shrewsbury (I think there's one tomorrow)...would love to see more Z's!!
  22. Hah omg - I don't post here anywhere near as much as I used to (sold off the 240Z, put the money into my E-Type and purchased a Ferrari), but I came today specifically to look for pics of Diseaszd's lime green 240Z. Lo and behold, the 3rd entry was this thread...from 2007!!! If that isn't karma, I don't know what is!! I'm jonesing for another 240Z, but it would need to be in the mold of the lime green car. Unfortunately, the budget isn't there at the moment...still one of my favorite cars from CzC!!!
  23. Thanks! Looking to add to it though...been missing my Z, but funds are extremely limited to purchase another car. Plus the boss (my wife) isn't too keen on it!!!
  24. Well, haven't been here in some time - I first posted on this thread in 2008 - can't believe that was 5 years ago! My '72 240Z has been sold. I used the money to fund the work on my '66 Jaguar E-Type, which is a blast. I also made another acquisition - something I've wanted for a long time, my '84 Ferrari 308. I still pine for another Z car (which would be my 4th), and I'll make the move in time, but for now I'm enjoying my "toys". I'm also waiting on a '85 Jaguar XJS-12, which I received for free. It's in nice shape too - not exactly a super collectible, but cool enough that when offered, I took it! Here's a pic of my current "collection"
