  1. I haven't been on Classic Z Cars in some time. I sold my '72 240Z a few years back to work on my '66 E-Type, and I subsequently purchased a Ferrari 308. Having owned various Z cars over the years, this site has always been near and dear to my heart. I returned today to see "what's going on", and I am saddened that the first thread I've seen is about Enrique. Reading through the condolences and tributes brings back some memories of all of you - although we may not have been close, this forum has been a model of friendliness and assistance. Enrique was no exception - I still remember him as a leader here, helpful and respectful. RIP "E" - you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family, and to all of you on Classic Z Cars.
  2. Used to run a 10.8 second Camaro back in the day. I've also driven an F430, Lambo Gallardo, Audi R8, and some other street beasts. Nothing compared to the Formula Continental / F2000 car I drove. Powered by a 2.0L Pinto engine, the thing barely weighed 1000 pounds. 150 max on straights, but the thing accelerated extremely quickly. I'm also a motorcyclist, but that's a different topic
  3. I'm actually looking for a 280 myself. I already own a classic - 1966 Jaguar E-Type - which I drive all the time. I never think about the value of it, just whether or not I enjoy it. I had a '76 280Z and a '72 240Z which I sold about a year or so ago, and I miss it. In a few, I'll look to jump back in with a '77 or '78 280.
  4. I remember Impact Parts - man, that's a long time ago! Dave - car looks awesome! I mentioned on another thread that I have a bead on a 280Z - would have it done similar to yours or ezzzzz's...great stuff.
  5. Really nice man! I sold my '72 240Z to fund some work on my '66 E-Type. Now have that fully running, I am looking at a 280Z to replace. It's not that I don't want another 240Z, but I think a solid 280Z could be had cheap and I would feel more comfortable doing mods such as yours. Please post more pics - that looks fantastic! Are the rims 16"?
  6. All: There's going to be an inaugural Cars and Coffee held tomorrow morning (Saturday 11/20) at 8 am at the Grove in Shrewbury. Should be a few Ferraris, Porsches, etc. I'll have my '66 Jaguar E-Type there. If anyone is interested - show up! Like to get a good crowd, especially with a diversity of cars, so spread the word!
  7. Sweet! Know you've been working on it for awhile - nice to see it's close to finished!
  8. I am partial to exit 9 myself - living by the Jersey Shore. Welcome - I haven't been here for awhile since I sold my Z Car, but there's a good group of people in the state that own them.
  9. How in the heck did you break your back? There is a thread on this board whereby someone used industrial foam and some interior paint to create an almost imperceptible fix (at least in photos). For sake of keeping your car as original as possible, and as nice as possible, please look at that thread!
  10. I am a dissenter on the dash cap. IIRC, Bonzi Lon's car is pretty darn original / restored. A dash cap is like putting flames on a Ferrari. Search the threads - someone here posted a DIY dash repair that was amazing in terms of quality, cost, and ease. That's the way I'd go.
  11. Carl, Great ideas, I love it. I will definitely do this - it would be interesting to see if it grows. I will go to the owner of the Dunkin' Donuts to get his buy in of course - the free cup of coffee is quite an incentive
  12. Bart - great! I may have some Ferrari guys interested from the other board I go to. Carl - I have seen these events held and I am envious (especially since you're in Florida!)... My plan was to do one at a local Dunkin' Donuts - huge parking lot available, and I know the owner, he's a great guy. Since I've finally got my Jaguar E-Type road worthy, she needs to stretch her legs more (it's been sitting dormant for a looooong time!), so what better way than a regualr Cars and Coffee? How often do they hold the event you go to?
  13. Hey all - I am interested in starting up a "Cars and Coffee" type event in Monmouth or Ocean County. I know of a place that would work well for this. The idea is to get a strong gathering of different cars / marques out on an early weekend morning - share stories, admire the cars, etc. Anyone interested? Nothing needs to be formalized other than date, time and place!
  14. Yes - keep them green, great color! Having just sold my '72 240Z (to fix my Jag E-Type), I was kicking around the idea of finding a project Z to hold on to...these would have been perfect. Excellent purchase for $300! On another note, and you may know this, my Jag mechanic (a legend btw) showed my absolute wrecks that he restored to almost 100 point condition. Now, that's not going to be cheap, but almost anything can be done. I was totally amazed at the work this guy could do. I know of a project Z near by my house, I may well try to snag it Good luck!!
  15. I just sold my '72 240Z - right in the range you are looking for. She was a peach too! What's left of the '78 - is it burnt to a crisp? Any pictures? Glad to hear no one was hurt - that's the main thing.
  16. My own 2 cents - (hey, opinions are like...well, you know). Any list without the Model T is lame. Any list without the Jaguar E-Type is lame. Any list without the Corvette is lame. Any list without the Ferrari GTO is lame. Any list without the 240Z is lame. Surely there are more, but 10 best ever, IMHO (there I go again!) has to TRANSCEND just performance / driving experience. Cars that made people say "holy...!" either when they saw it, or retrospectively. There's really not many cars like that - surely not the Dodge Neon or Honda CRX!! Then again, it's fun to argue / discuss, which is really the purpose of said list now, isn't it? PS - I am biased, having owned a 240Z (until recently) and still own a Jag E-Type. That being said, their respective significance in the world of automobiles is hard to deny...FWIW
  17. Scott, Are you the guy that owns the car currently being worked on by Terry Lippincott?
  18. I had a few really bad cars - '76 Pinto Wagon, 84 Dodge Aries K Wagon...but the worst was a '97 Geo Prism (Corolla). Normally, these cars are solid, but this particular car looked like it had been to hell and back. Primer gray hood, you couldn't open the car door from the inside, it rattled, it smelled...really a horror story...
  19. The guy that bought it is a good dude, I am glad he was the buyer. My main reasons are focus - I have another car to work on and an old motorcycle that's been in my family for 40 years. Too many projects. Not to mention that I've always wanted a Ferrari 308, and they are now quite affordable. I'll hold off on that purchase given the economy, but I need to be ready if I should make a move.
  20. Well, I am no longer the caretaker of HLS30-73667...with some sadness and trepidation, the new owner loaded her up and took her away. I hope the person that purchased it becomes an active member on this board. I'll still lurk, maybe one day I'll get back into the game. I appreciate the help from everyone here over the short years I participated - this board is a model for other enthusiast boards to follow.
  21. Cool stuff here - to think, just 2 days before my 1st birthday, the S30 debuted.
  22. I remember a special day - my daughter was taking a karate belt test - we were all excited to go. I took my Z to pick something up from the store...it was a beautiful day...sun shining...birds...you get the picture. There were even comments made about the car - I parked right in front of the store I was going into. "Nice car" and "You don't see those anymore", or "that's a classic". Yup, I was real proud of her, and even more proud that my daughter was going for a new belt! I couldn't wait! As I came out of the store, I went to start up my Z. Cranked it once...cranked it twice. That's odd - it won't start. Hmmm, I am sure it's nothing - let me open the hood and look underneath. Nothing out of the ordinary, so let me try again. NOTHING. So I call my wife. "Honey, I am stuck". You can imagine what I got as a response. Now I am in jeopardy of missing my kids test - what a bummer. Not to mention the embarrassment of being stuck in front of a store where the workers are asking me if everything is ok, blah blah. Lucky for me, I have AAA...and although it took awhile for them to get there, I was able to get her home, get to the karate test (yep, she passed!), and diagnose the problem (fuel pump). I replaced it, and all was well with the world! I love it when a plan comes together...
  23. Rick - what issues? Post here if you can...
  24. That's a beauty! I like the QVs, and almost nabbed one, but they still command a premium to the carbed cars, although they benefit from the additional years of improvement. Personally, I'd take any 308 other than the GTSi/GTBi, and even those can be switched to carbs to make them "wake up". Definitely sound AWESOME! Most of the cars I've looked at have either a Stebro or Tubi exhaust, which is a must on these. My apologies for the thread jack - I also love my 240Z, but a few drives in the 308 made me realize how special those cars are...I have to have one. I am close!
