  1. John, Thanks - that's what I was referring to. It's that level of engineering that really separates "good" from "great". I know they were justifiably proud of their work (some funny comments on other boards from people that work / worked there). Eventually, I'll need my head redone on the stock L24. I don't have plans to do much to the lower end other than refresh, but I am thinking I can gain some modest power from a great shop. The CM article referenced here is a good example - pretty much what I'd like to do. Rich
  2. Old thread (I AM utilizing search ) - what ever became of Sunbelt? I know they were acquired by Kinetic - they now seem to be a BMW focused shop. I was keen on this rebuild, and on other sites I've read about the magic Sunbelt was doing on L24 heads with stock bottom ends. Interestingly, they have a completely different view of generating performance from other Z performance shops, although I don't know all the details. Do they still do Z work? If not, does someone else do it for them (or similar to what they were doing)? Just confused, so asking the question...thanks in advance.
  3. From what I can tell, he's got all the original parts tucked away. Not unlike mine, removal of that spoiler's "gonna leave a mark", and I'm not big on the rims, but man is it clean. For a Pennsylvania car, looks good.
  4. Guys - nice Z for sale (maybe) over at zcar.com: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/8/2004079 the guy is the original owner, he's 60-something and doesn't know what it's worth. Has 42,000 miles - some mods, but mild. I have to believe this is $15K, but what do I know...any thoughts?
  5. 3 years? I'd bring it - that's too long to live without it!
  6. An applicable response from one of my British colleagues when I (jokingly) asked him if he would be interested in buying my E-Type: "The steering wheel is on the wrong side!" That's the primary issue - I tried my hand at RHD driving in both the UK and Bermuda - I wasn't particularly good at it. I have enough trouble driving a LHD car here in the States!
  7. Rick and all: I just saw the eBay link for the car you won...I didn't know Ken by name, but I do believe his screen name is 7277 - I was responding to his post without knowing what happened. You mentioned he passed, he was a young guy, my thoughts and prayers for his family.
  8. Rick, Yep, I am the guy with the red '72! You got another one??? Damn, I am jealous! What are you going to do with the black one? I am interested if you don't part it out!! You up for a ride soon? I need some work on mine, as you know, but it would still be nice to get it out more!
  9. You think there's a premium for a RHD 240Z? I don't profess to know, which is why I ask, but I can't see it. I certainly wouldn't touch one, but that's me.
  10. Slightly old thread, but I am in Freehold (right next to Marlboro), so if you're up for a drive, let me know. That goes for you too 7277 - but I've seen your car (at the NJZC show), it's way nicer than mine. In fact, compared to both cars, mine's a heap, but it drives and I love it.
  11. Yep -saw this. The interior is in poor shape and the floors rusted. I paid about the same for mine and it's in WAY better shape, albeit that was 4 years ago. I did send this to him. Thanks for the help!
  12. Good advice - I think he saw that already in terms of importing.
  13. Yes, good point...I guess I was trying to be cheap as possible, but that's certainly an option.
  14. I guess it's like Edwin Meese and his comments on pornography - can't tell you what it is but I'll know it when I see it. Seriously - hard to say. I'd guess something like what I own (maybe a 4 car, it's drivable, no serious rust issues, but not a concours car by any stretch) - so maybe $5 - $8K?
  15. Forgive the naive question - does Rebello have anything like an exchange program? Rather than pull my head and send it in for re-work, do they have some already made that they would send and credit your old head towards the purchase? I ask this since they have "spec" products (e.g., "touring" head, etc.). For me, this is a preferable route as my car has minimal down-time.
  16. Wow - you aren't kidding...that seems a little high I think the preference is stock, not a project car. I am thinking there's no real premium for a RHD in the US, right?
  17. All: A person on another board I participate in has been looking for an early RHD Fairlady Z: He's not particularly worried about condition, but he's not willing to spend big money for a poor example. Seems like he's looking for something he can restore, and therefore wants to keep the price as low as possible. He's in the States, not sure if there's many of these around in North America. He's looked in Japan, but was floored by the high prices. Any ideas or cars you know of that are available?
  18. Great story - reminds me of my dad and I in his '67 AH 3000 MkIII. Just like you, I sat in the jump seat, excited like a puppy dog going for a walk. One of my favorite stories of me as a child happened with that car. My dad was always tinkering with his "toys", and was shocked (and rightly angered) to find his 2 or 3 year old son (me) banging the back of the Healey with a garden rake. After a nice spank on the butt and the follow on tears, he asked me what I was doing. I responded that I was "fixing, like Daddy!". Oh, and continuing the Brit car thing - in my garage:
  19. I have that article too! I was never a "dime" fan until I saw that 510. Imagine owning that pair of cars!
  20. If this sells (given the estimated high reserve) I'd be shocked. Granted, this is a unique car, but I know both muscle cars and Ferraris are taking a huge hit - bargains are there if you can afford 'em. The economy is so slow that shelling out $50K (or more) for a car with not much of a racing provenance seems excessive to me (just MHO).
  21. Forgive me - is that a new one? Looks same as the one I have from about 20 years ago, so I am assuming it's actually an old catalog? Are they worth anything?
  22. Ah - I forgot about that! I'll take a look through. Obviously, in this economy, it has to be devalued somewhat. Over at the Ferrari board I post on, there's a mild panic over the falling prices, especially on the normally high valued cars. It makes for interesting possibilities - something normally unobtainable now within reach. Unfortunately, like most of us, the economy reminds you that job security is a fleeting thing.
  23. Enrique pretty much explains it in his post. In my neighboorhood, which is a development, the builder put in these high lift tracks that basically go straight up until there is a small bit of clearance between ceiling / door / tracks. At that point, the tracks arch backward in traditional fashion, but they don't extend as far back as a traditional. In my garage, I have one high lift door, one traditional lift door. The high lift is the door closest to where you enter / exit the house. This was due to the possibility of traditional tracks being too low and potentially harming the homeowner if not paying attention (e.g., you'd ram your head into the tracks). Not really a likely occurrence, given that my garage is really big, but since the house is elevated, I guess it's possible if you are really tall (I am not!). 7T1240 - nice job on that garage!
  24. Man - that's a car I would love to own. Although my "collection" is minimal, I always wanted a race car of historical significance / provenance...particularly from a series that I was fond of. Assuming everything here is legit (I have no reason to doubt that it is), I would jump on this. Too bad the economy isn't strong enough to reinforce my sense of security. As this was a backup car - does anyone have an estimate of what it might go for?
  25. The people I know that have them have the high lift tracks, so there's no interference.
