  1. This is my "to do" list, but I agree the 4-post lift is a must-have. There are a few people in my neighborhood that have both, it's great and convenient. Looks great - lots of luck with it! I am also jealous!
  2. I posted in a different thread that I took my Z to a classic car show this past weekend. This show is dominated by American cars, but allows entry to all comers. Many of the people parked by me noted the positive response my Z received. It was the only Z in the show, and even though it's not show quality, plenty of people commented on how nice it was. I even had a few offers to sell, which I turned down. That was all the proof I needed to show that the Z does have the respect of the hot rodding and classic car community.
  3. Negative - I am old enough to remember. Japanese cars WERE considered cheap and ridiculous then, which is why the 510 and the 240Z were ground breaking. Although I believe it was just a matter of time before Japanese cars became mainstream, the 510 and 240Z accelerated that. It was until at LEAST 1979 before that image of "cheap and ridiculous" started to fade - my father bought a 1980 Corolla SR5 and people were laughing at him. My dad was a drag racer, built many a hot rod and owned some classic cars (1966 Austin Healey, 1961 Corvette, etc.), so he was not the demographic Japan, Inc. was shooting for. However, my father is also smart - he recognized good value and quality. So you statement is untrue - Japanese cars THEN were considered cheap and not desirable. Thank, in part, the 240Z for helping to shatter that image.
  4. All: Had the pleasure of being an entrant in the Rolling Iron Auto Show at Allaire State Park today. Of the 300 or so cars there, I had the only Z-car, and one of the few foreign cars in the show. The foreign cars consisted of MGs, Austin-Healeys, a few Fiat 500s and a Spyder, and Iso Grifo and a Ferrari 512BBi. I was surprised there were no E-Types (there were a few last year), but more so by a) the fact that there were no other Japanese classics and the number of people that asked me about the car. Many people told me how "I had one when I was younger" and how much they enjoyed the car. I spoke about how few actually still exist, and received quite a bit of compliments. Here's a pic - my car between an MG-TD and a 1966 Chevrolet Truck. Needless to say, I didn't win any awards, but I made some friends and had a blast. Any other Z-car owners want to head out to this next year?
  5. Congrats - much like, you've found the right place to continue your journey!
  6. Seth - the GT-R was sick! I spoke to the owner, he mentioned he spent close to $130K on it, almost double over the sticker!!! I took some camera phone pics, but I can't load them on the PC (it's Verizon) JerseyJoe and Ken are on this board. I don't know if I met 7277, which car was his/hers? I also had the Z in the Allaire Rolling Iron show today - I'll post pics in a different thread.
  7. Sorry I missed you - I arrived at 8:45am, there were already a few cars present. I met JerseyJoe - he has a nice original 1971 (D - hubs, original radio) that's not "over-restored". Ken Lewis (screen name "Ken") from New Hampshire was parked as I drove in - his car is sweet and clean. Drove it straight down, by himself. At a young 75, I hope I am in as good shape as he is when I get there...Z ownership has it's benefits I guess Peter Riccardi had a nice street modified 280Z - you could eat off of the engine, that's how nice it was! Unfortunately, I had to leave early AND my camera had the memory card full, so no pics. I have vids, but it's with me speaking. I can try to post if anyone is interested. Although my 240Z isn't "show quality", I felt right at home. It was a great time. Tomorrow, I have my car entered in Allaire State Park's Rolling Iron show, that will be fun as well. Poindexter - let me know how you made out!
  8. L24 engine, independent suspension, sporty flair - what's not to like? Having owned a 280Z, a 240Z, a Nissan Truck, and a 2000 Maxima SE, I would have killed to have an 810 with a manual tranny and a built L-series engine. I envisioned something similar to Diseazd's 510 - what a site that would be!!

    Paul Newman

Sad indeed - as a true fan of CART and Champ Car, he was loyal to the end. Prayers for Paul and his wife Joanne.
  10. Yes, now I recall that as you describe it. Both of my friends' cars had the wood floor, my '76 did not.
  11. I read that later 240Zs (with tool compartment behind the seats) had a different mounting location for the straps. As I look at these pics, I can't tell how / where the straps mount. Do the straps wrap around the carpet and go underneath to the mount location? Or do the straps / brackets get screwed in over the carpet? I have a '72 (with tool compartments) - I can see the mounting location, but I am guessing the strap brackets need to be OVER the carpet - is that right?
  12. I am pretty sure this is partially untrue. The 1975 and 1976 models had a "lower" rear hatch floor, similar to the 240Z I currently own. In 1977, the rear hatch floor was "raised", I have no idea why, but it was significantly higher, and probably negated the need / ability to have the tool compartment. It's been 22 years or so, but I am 99% sure my '76 280Z had the tool compartment. I also know about the hatch floor because 2 of my friends had '77 280Zs, and there was clearly a difference.
  13. Nopt a big seller, but that equates to exclusivity. The MR2 was never a big seller, but since it's mid-engined and sporty, that gives it an exotic flair. I agree, the Gen II is the most desirable, but I do believe the Gen III will appreciate. I also forgot the Honda S2000 - 5,000 units per year, hyper-personality, convertible...that's gonna be a keeper!
  14. Lolo was a heartbreaker - you had to root for her, she put everything into it...and she's likely too old to come back. Not impossible, but she's 26.
  15. What / how did you search? Is it a horn pad mounting kit or something else?
  16. Nastia Liukin is a good story, as is Henry Cejudo. A bit bummed about Tyson Gay and Lolo Jones - but that's the Olympics for you!
  17. As a Jag owner, I spotted the color/lines almost immediately. However, I did think it was a Series I (so my eyes fail me a little!)...this is a Series III, V12. All of those were 2+2 as opposed to the smaller FHC (fixed-head coupe), which is what I own. Nice car either way!! Great pics too!
  18. Can't believe no one mentioned the NSX - exclusivity, supercar performance, Honda quality, and currently cheap. That and the Ferrari 3x8 series (already appreciating). Throw in the MR2 Gen-II and III. Biased as I am, I also believe the Gen II GS400/GS430 from Lexus may become somewhat of a collectible for the same reason as the NSX - there weren't many made compared to the GS300, and they have fantastic quality / performance.
  19. Any pics of that E-Type coupe in the background of the GT-R pic(s)?
  20. Mr C. - I didn't thank you either, my apologies - thanks for pointing me to this site. Now I have an even "dumber-er" question - I can't find the mounting kit / parts...at least not online. Arne once pointed out that you can get parts via a Nissan dealer, but I am not confident in my local dealer. I did see a Grant steering wheel mounting kit at JC Whitney. Obviously, it's intended to mount a Grant steering wheel - wondering if some of the parts could be sourced to mount the horn pad on an OEM wheel...anyone know? Am I making a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be?
  21. Enrique - thank you again, this provides the view / parts I am looking for!!
  22. There's no chance they are as original, so I agree with you there. But remember, I didn't bend the tabs, only the arms that suspend the float from the bowl cover. My primary concern was stopping the spewing of gas - I did. The car now runs well, very well. I would bet with proper adjustment (as I suspect it NEEDS), it would run even better. One of my first posts on this board was about how sluggish my car was. I have a 4.11 rear and a later model 5-speed. Another board member said my car should be a rocket, and it wasn't. Since the "adjustment", it runs great - still no rocket, but it's much better. I would think with proper adjustment, there would be much improvement. That's work for another day
