Good luck with it Steve. It is a neat car and over the last couple of months I debated over buying it. I had neither the time or place to build it. Instead, I built a shop to better work on the Z's. BTW, my race Z came from the west coast. Michael Scott built it and won several races with it. Good luck, Paul

Try this, http://www.designproductsracing.com/index.html Never mind, that is Don Oldenberg. Got my Don's confused............getting old sucks! Found contact info: D.L.POTTER ENGINEERING P.O. Box 15010 Warm Springs Station Fremont,California 94539 No phone number though
  3. Thanks for the update. I have been looking all over this morning trying to find results. GREAT pictures as usual. I like Perry's ZX. I bought a '82 slicktop earlier this year that I may build for ITS. Were you able to set up the "group" photo? Congrats to Greg, Guy and the rest of you!!!
  4. I have used their parts. High quality, good stuff. Set up of the car is not as simple as just raising and lowering your ride heights. You need to consider shock travel, camber settings, toe settings and your damping as well. I think if you search the forums for "camber plates" you will find a lot of information. The plates are not easy to install and require a lot of cutting and grinding to install correctly, especially if your cage is already in place. You might also look at Beta Motorsports camber set up as well. You will get caster adjustment in the BMS set up that the ground control kit doesn't do very well. It may provide a good alternative if you are daily driving your car. Either way, GC has been very good to work with and I have received GREAT customer service. I am sure John at BMS provides great service too!
  5. Go have a good time. Keep your eyes open for a black and sliver 260. I think Ron and Jeff are driving it in the enduro. SteveP may also be there in his silver/orange 240. I will be at TGPR "instructing" at a PDX and getting some test-n-tune done. Need to see how it drives without the rear sway bar and higher spring rates Hope the weather breaks and they have dry racing.
  6. Over revving on a down shift can cause the rockers to pop off. I hit about 7400 on a down shift when the red mist got in my eyes at turn 1 Luckily nothing major damaged. Finished the race on 5 cylinders and then recovered the lash pads from the pan later.
  7. FWIW, MSA has Brembo drums in stock. I just received a pair so if anyone needs them, now is the time to get them. $90.95/ea
  8. Keep at it Greg. Great result so far. Say hello to Eric VC for me if you get a chance. He is still finding time in his T-3 RX but is a couple seconds back for the front. GOOD LUCK! Paul
  9. I found out about this when I started looking for some spares before the Labor Day races at Barber Motorsports par. At that time there were 3 drums in Nissan's inventory (at $185/ea). I tried ordering from several places that said they had them in stock, but all were out. Further checking reveals that the company that was building them for Brembo has no current plans to make another production run unless they receive an order of 1500+. There is an Ebay vendor that I have bought from in the past that was listing a pair or drums for $349. I told a couple of Z racers about the drums and picked up several good used drums that should last me for a while. For those of you looking for drums, good luck. Rumor has it that an Asian manufacturer has said they will produce the drums but in steel, not aluminum. Bottom line, if anybody has a couple good used aluminum drums that I can get a couple of races out of before they go over diameter, and won't break my wallet, send me a pm. I am not trying to hoard but for a full season of racing it may take several sets of drums for me next year. Thanks and I thought you guys should know about this for your concours (did I spell that right ) restorations. Paul

Nice shops. Wish mine had the tools some of you have. When this one is finished it will house the car in my avatar, an '82 slicktop ZX (future race car) and the pieces from my last two parts cars. Not enough room for the "regular cars": '04 RX8 Gray Daily driver '04 RX8 Green Oldest son's '08 CX7 GT Wifes '94 Impreza younger son's '03 Chevy 2500HD diesel Tow vehicle
  11. Just a thought, Is the bar installed upside down? In looking at the angle's on the bar, I had to ask..... I noticed you asked that in your opening post. In looking at the angles from the bar to the end link, I think you nailed the problem. At full droop the bar will rotate but should not interfere with the drive shaft or front diff flange.
  12. Car is built to SCCA Improved Touring "S" class requirements. It is essentially a stock engine (although can be balanced, blueprinted, Overbored slightly, etc.), race seat, coilover shocks, and a roll cage. Full specs for the class can be found at: http://www.scca.com/documents/Club%20Rules/ImprovedTouring.pdf The class is pretty limited in what you can change. I am still running stock SU carbs THANKS Bruce and Z-therapy!! For the roll cage and safety requirements you need to look the General Competition Rules as scca.org Thanks Pablo, don't need the lottery to come up but tow costs are tough these days. Are you going to RR for the SIC? FHPTom, stay safe with the weather headed your way. What class will your car be in? BTW, I did my "hard time" and am know retired from "the job." Paul
  13. Z cars finished 3, 4, 5 on Saturday and 2,3,5 on Sunday. Kudo's to Shedd and Parrish on their high finishes. I wound up 5th but still had a blast. Here is a link to some in-car video from Sunday's race.

Could be. I am relating the story that Joe and Darryl told me when I bought the car. If I recall correctly, they went to Mobile to pick it up. Then again, I may have a faulty memory about this. Too many years ago...... Carl, They ran the POR at least once that I know of. IRRC, they ran the "Northern Woods"?? series of events. Darryl also rallyed a V-8 MGBGT that he built (Chevy engine, corvair transaxle) and I don't know if he ever got the Chevy Monza on a stage rally. The MGB has recently been located (in Missouri) and is being restored, the Monza was purchased last year from Darryl and is being restored for "Rally Cross" events here in Huntsville. The monza is pretty unique. He ordered the chassis from Chevy and they shipped him a bare "chassis in white" to him via rail car. He then built or re-engineered and modified almost every component on the car. He used Titanium for the splashpan/rock guards underneath. I watched this build for several years and the car is incredible in its detail. Something about engineeers and rocket scientist that make them over engineer things I am sure Darryl has some photos and records of his rallies. I will try to give him a call over the next couple of weeks and see what I can come up with.

After reading the post and viewing CarlB's beautiful BRE rally car I thought I should give a little history about HLS30-000999. Ordered in 1969 from the dealer and was the very first Z delivered to Alabama. Joe Long purchased the car and he and Darryl Holder converted it to a Pro Rally car. It was an amateur SCCA class car and they did fairly well in the Northern woods/Michigan Rallys from 70-74 or so. As I recall they only improvements were navigation related, more lights, different sway bars, harnesses, and a roll bar. I bought the car from Joe in 1976 for parts after they had hit a tree while on the roof in Northern Michigan during a stage rally. After stripping the car I sold the hulk to a local Z shop and they used the rear fenders, which were the only good things left on the car save for a few interior bits. I assume the rest of the chassis was turned into can stock a long time ago. I am trying to find some pictures of the car. I do remember it had tall profile Cooper Rally tires on it when I brought it home. Thought CarlB and some others would like to know about #999 Paul
  16. That's great Pablo!! Hope you saw/met Ron in the silver 260 and Jeff in the TR8. That was a FAST run group from what I have heard!! New springs and shocks are on the way. Should have them installed by Barber. I will run 400/350 or 325/275. Depends on how the install goes since I am changing the upper perch/camber plate setup. What size rear bar did you end up using? I am still not sure how small of a bar I can use with the new setup. Glad the brakes worked. FWIW I am running HT-10 Hawks in front and Carbotech on the rear. You might want to try that set up some time. Congrats on your weekend. Anytime you can have fun and bring the car back in one piece it is a good job. Paul

I have had VERY good pad life out of the Hawk HT-10's I run. Of course, I am stuck with drum rears and I am using Carbotech Kaelite metallic in the rear. The balance seems pretty good but I am trying to dial in a little more rear. The HT-10's require heat for any effective braking. I usually end up "left foot braking" on the out lap to try to have braking when the green flag flys.:bandit:
  18. Only 1 Type A, I have 4 on hand right now and esentially 2 Z's in parts minus the tub's. Not to mention 6 new rotors, 4 new drums, 8 halfshafts, etc. :stupid: Arne, I recently paid $150 for a locked 3.70 for the track. I have found several 4.11's in the $125-$175 range. I would think that would be a good range to think about.
  19. FWIW, I run 31 degrees total advance. No vacuum advance Weights have been locked. Rev engine to 4k, set timing with an electronic light at 31 degrees. Good luck.
  20. Just a thought if it is not tire balance, Wheel Bearings? At lower speeds you might not notice it until you hit a bump. When you shift the weight to the rear under acceleration it should be more noticible. Also, I have seen a "shake" from a tire that had not worn evenly. Rotate the tires and see if it persists. Good luck....
  21. Come on up. It is a fun track. I will be sure and wave as you guys lap me :classic:

Take a look at this thread : http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=114798 I think you will find a lot of info that will help you. Paul
  23. Hey Pablo, Consider coming up to Barber at the end of August. It has got to be one of the most scenic tracks in the SE. There should be a good crop of Z's as well. I think 240ZDave will have his new car ready by then. Shedd, Parrish, Earp and myself should be there. I need to get to Fla sometime too. The last time I was at Daytona was crewing for an IMSA Gremlin in the fall '79. Greg, I am looking at your picture and car this month in the Nissan calender. >applause<
  24. I always wondered about the East vs. West set up differences. Thanks guys. BTW, congrats Greg on your Roebling victories. If you saw a Red RX8 running T-3 it is a neighbor of mine. We changed the gearbox out last weekend so he could make it. He is still developing the car but you probably know Eric anyway. Paul
  25. Pablo, there is a lot of setup information over at Hybridz. I have pretty large sway bars and I am hoping to go up to #400 front and #350 rear and much smaller diameter on the bars. Seems the west coast runs softer spring rates and larger sway bars for some reason. The current setup is how I found my car when I bought it but it could have changed as the previous owner didn't build the car. I am just living with my current setup until I can make some intelligent choices about which way to move forward. I need to get a data system for analysis. Video and stopwatch can only go so far. RC, I am familiar with DP. They are on my list when I get ready to purchase parts. I haven't quite decided whether to use camber plates (there is questionable legality of weld ins) or use the offsets/upper mount style.
