Doing the Dragon's Tail
I was on the "Dragon" last weekend. Couple of rules, stay on YOUR side of the yellow lines and be ready to stop if a sport bike doesn't follow the yellow line rule. Maintain more than 2 seconds following distance from the car/bike in front of you. It will give you time to react when something happens and it WILL happen. Also, MAJOR enforcement is still taking place on the Tennessee side of the Dragon. There were only two Highway Patrol vehicles when I was up there but the day before there had been 6-7. All were along the dragon. You can check out www.tailofthedragon.com for better details. You might also check out the Cherohola Skyway. While not as intense as the dragon it is a pleasant cruise with beautiful scenery. Here is a picture from last weekend. Not in my Z but still a fun car http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/OrderPage.aspx?pi=04RK00JT050799&po=799&c=

Hillclimb Video
You got that right! The other part of it was COLD tires and COLD brakes. I just didn't push that hard not knowing if the tires and brakes would work. (read as I am a chicken) I am running HT-10's in front and Carbotech shoes and they need the heat. They never really got hot enough to work well, even on the downhill return runs. The tire temps NEVER came up. I should of put in the 3.90 diff but I was running with a 3.73 Oh well, I know what to do for next year :classic:

Hillclimb Video
I am still around, but just not posting much these days. Thought I would share a couple of pics and a link to an in car video from the Inaugural Eagle's Nest Hillclimb last weekend in N.C.. My car is the yellow one and the BEAUTIFUL blue is Bill Coffey's. I finished about .3 back from Bill but I had one more run than he did. Unfortunately he broke a tranny. Enjoy Video link

Anyone in the Springfield, Mo. area?
Well, I bought it and it is now safe at home in N. Alabama. Car is pretty well prepped and runs great. I drove it a little while Sunday at an old airport and it handles pretty well. Just need a few minor things and it will be ready for Driver's school in the spring. Thanks for the contacts. Paul

Anyone in the Springfield, Mo. area?
I am considering the purchase of an ITS car and I am not sure I can get out to view it in person. If anyone is near that area and can check out the car please pm me and I will get you the contact instructions. Also, I am not sure that the cage will be current, last annual tech on the car was '01 and I can't tell from the GCR if I will need to update the cage. Does anybody know offhand if the GCR cage requirement has changed since '01? Thanks, Paul

KYB Part number help
Ok, So I said roadster when I meant 1200 or maybe even a 510. Gary, thanks for the reply. Was the KYB number for the insert or was it the full strut housing? I need a full assembly with stub axle. Don't need control arm, ball joints or anything else, just the housing. Thanks, Paul

KYB Part number help
I need to find a new RH front strut assembly for my '71 and I have found 2. One is marked KYB and has a part# 54302 A2650 The other is marked 54302 UO550 Underneath both is Z1 and Japan. Is anyone able to cross reference these part numbers? My CD does not list either part and I "think" the struts may be from a roadster. Thanks for the help in advance! Paul

Anbody bought parts from www.nisspartswholesale.com/
Like it says, anybody bought from this company? Pretty good prices especially if you are looking for brake rebuild kits, etc. I am thinking of trying them out, but not if someone has had a bad experience. Thanks, Paul

It's ALIVE...
Some of you may remember I drove my Series I home some months ago. Very close inspection found a number of small problems that needed to be tended to and several major problems. Biggest problem was the PO had not replaced the emissions header that had a rotted out weld at the #1 exhaust port. I finally got off my %$& and ordered a new header a couple of months ago along with a complete exhaust system from MSA. Work has been getting in the way of working on the Z, but I managed to finally get the header on along with the exhaust. I should add that I removed the fuel tank as well and replaced all of the lines running too and from the vent can as well as everything else. I had a case of the "while I am at it" as well and went ahead and removed all of the emissions stuff from the intake as well as the air pump. Well, I fired her up today and BOY DOES SHE SOUND BETTER. I still had to play with the carbs a little and set the points correctly and check the timing. Got it all done and took her around the block, well around the neighborhood. I know I shouldn't have, but I opened her up a couple of times. Caught some rubber hitting second and man did it bring back memories! Now on to working on the suspension, fixing the rust, etc, etc, etc. It sure was nice to drive a Z again! Now I just need to drive it a little more often. LOL LOL Paul

Dancing Ammeter Continues!!!
FWIW, it sounds like a heat related stray ground issue. I know you have checked all of the connections, but it still sounds to me like a ground wire somewhere is making GOOD contact when the engine is cold and when heated it is losing it's good connection. That would also hold true when the lights are on as the load would increase so would an alternative ground path. Just thinking out loud trying to help.......... Have you checked the ground lead/contact point from the battery to the block? Just another $.02 worth and good luck to finding the problem.

Did you know.......................?

Tail of the Dragon
Right you are, I like the Cherohola (sp) Skyway and it is FAR less traveled than the Dragon. I also like 64-74 along the Ocoee and the Nanatahala. Yes there is traffic/congestion, but running the valley along the rivers is really nice. There is also another road that I liked near Ellijay, but I can't remember the name/number. Like you Zbane, I enjoy the ride and save the really fun stuff for the autox events or track. Just too much chance of hurting someone else or myself to get crazy on the road. Not to mention I don't heal the way I used too!

Did you know.......................?
Hi everyone. I have been a long time lurker on this board and recently bought another 240Z to play with. I had a '71 back in 1973 and kept it until 1981 or so. While I feel I am somewhat knowledgeable on Z's I certainly have enjoyed the wealth of knowledge on this board. On another auto forum I frequent we started a thread called "Did you know....?" The thread has grown to 28 pages and takes more than 2 hours to read from start to finish and has an enormous amount of facts about the car. I thought I would start one on this board so that the wise sage's of this forum could show off a little of their knowledge and it might help to educate newbie's about Z cars. (me included:cheeky: ) If you guys will join me, and limit each post to a single "Did you know...?" I wonder how many pages of info we could compile. Ok, I guess I should start this out. Did you know....that the l-24 engine OEM connecting rods are made of forged steel? Who is next?

Tail of the Dragon
Hi guys, I spent last weekend at "The Dragon" with a group of RX8's. For several of us, it was not our first or second time. Some of the pictures of the group can be found on www.killboy.com Good advice on the police. There was a presence there and only 5 bikes went down that I know of. No one arilifted though. Fun drive, but going in a group is not really my "cup of tea." I ran it on my own a couple of times. FWIW, BE CAREFUL. I worried less about me and more about someone being in my lane or a bikers helmet (with body attached) being in my lane has they are leaning around the corners. We also saw an original group of AC Cobra's up there including a Dayton Coupe. BTW, Great advice about racing. The Dragon is certainly NOT the place to attempt to drive at high speeds. It requires MAJOR skill to drive fast on 129. It is a nice cruise with the occasional quick corner but save the racing for a much safer environment. Nice drive, beautiful scenery and fast cars....i just dosen't get much better than that. Enjoy, Paul

1" sway bar ?
Hi guys, You are both right on target. A lot of variables for handling and the bars are just part of the equation. "Back in the day" I had great fun with the trailing throttle oversteer in the Z. It was great to have enough torque and power to lift, sling the rear around then nail it and have it stick again! These days I am having to relearn everything about autox since I am driving a little to no torque car (RX8). Soon though, another Z will be my play toy. The '70 in the driveway is too good to make anything other than a pretty fall day, curvy road car and I definitely want the "Z" feel again. I may be calling on you guys for suggestions on spring rates, etc when the time comes. Thanks for the comments Paul
