FWIW, I installed a 1" or 15/16" bar years ago (c1975) on my '71. I also put on a 7/8" rear bar. I had to reinforce the frame rails in two directions. On the bottom of the frame rail and on the side. This was on a prepared autox (slalom) car that also had the offset bushings for toe/camber. Without the reinforcement the captive nuts for the swaybar mounting were already pulling the frame apart/backing plate apart. The reinforcements fixed the problem. Jmortensen's recommendation is right on target. W/O a rear bar the car will be really strange handling and quite loose (like the rear of a Z is not already loose). Hope this helps and take it with a grain of salt as it was free Paul

FWIW, I just finished stripping out a '73 240 for parts. When I took it to the recycler it weighed in at 760 lbs. That was without any glass, suspension, interior, hatch, and about 20-30 lbs of body panels cut out. I thought that might interest some of you guys. BTW, if you know of a ITS, or Production Z for sale, let me know as I am shopping for a "fixer-upper." to start some wheel to wheel racing. Thanks, Paul
  3. Got em, in good shape. Only one screw from one tab had rusted. Pm me with a reasonable offer and they are yours! Thanks for looking. Paul
  4. Pretty rusty, I will try to get some pics and you can decide if you want them before I try to remove them...........d^%$ rust.................. Paul
  5. I have got it. send me a pm or email and we can work out exactly what you need and how to get it to you.

Nice site, FWIW I saw Paul Newman stuff the Bob Sharp Z under the bridge at Atlanta during an IMSA race. Should have been '76 or '77. It was also the same weekend I got to meet him and his wife. I was crewing for an IMSA Radial Sedan back then.(an AMC Gremlin of all things) Jim Downing was just getting started with the RX3 and Amos Johnson and Dennis ? (Team Highball) were racing AMC Pacers.............and WINNING thanks for the pictures and the memories Paul
  7. Interior is esentially trash. All of the plastic is brittle, door panels warped, seats while intact, are not any good. Wheels appear good but have been painted with a silver rattle can. Only one wheel has a cap. All of the ac/ is intact. Including evap, condenser, under dash/footwell unit, and control panel. The underdash unit plastic surround is cracked on one corner, but can be easily fixed. Compressor is still mounted on the engine (which I pulled today) and has all brackets/pully mounts. Core support was poorly welded in and while the upper support appears good, the lower is trash and heavily rusted. PM me with an email and I can send some pics of the a/c Paul
  8. No problem Enigma. Ian, I am still looking for it. I may have thrown it in the spare well and it has been covered with junk. I plan on working on the car tomorrow and will look again. Paul
  9. Here you go, to be honest I forgot about them until you reminded me.
  10. Cable clips are all in place. Rather than losing one, I cut the cables when removing. It was easier than releasing the clips plus the cables are fairly eaasy to replace.
  11. Dome light crumbled when I touched it, Sorry.
  12. bump, before I go to ebay, thanks for looking Paul
  13. Nice cars, especially the M6, Currently in the stable 2 2004 Rx8's, 98 Volvo V70, 70 240, 94 GMC Suburban, 90 something Rabbit (joint owner Rallyx car often times rented out for those that don't have a car). In the past 65 GTO, 71 240Z, Pontiac Sunbird, Subie GL AWD turbo (ordered this one the first year they came out), Subie DL, Chevy K5 Blazer, Datsun 1200, and several others. I drove a Crown Vic pursuit special for many, many years prior to retirement. Paul
  14. Last set of pics for now. The last pic, of the carbs, is why I bought this car. They are not for sale and let's just say I bought the whole car for less than the core charge for the carbs!
  15. More pics of parts and car
  16. Some more pic's, dash and dash harness. The dash and glovebox are no good, wiring, gauges, etc appear good.
  17. Really not bad. It had one worn/chafed spot but appears not to be burned. I am getting ready to post the pics and will include some of the harness. All connectors looked god but some are brittle. The only wires I cut were grounding wires.
  18. No problem!
  19. Mikemeade, The release is yours. I took it off yesterday. I do know that the latch end of the cable was missing the attachment and cable end. I think the firewall grommet was still there as well, I just don't remember. Those should be easy to replace. This one was just tied to the latch mechanism and it worked fine.
  20. Nealkeith, FWIW I will be in DFW, El Paso, Las Cruces, San Antonio and Carrizo Springs next week. If I can get it out this week and determine exactly what it is, I might be able to bring it to you. Thanks for the reply! Paul
  21. Neilkeith, As soon as I get the diff out, and if it is not one that I want/need, it is yours! Theianmonster, Gas cap is yours! Enigma, the base of the horns was pretty rotted out but the horns themselves appeared good. I will get picks late this afternoon and post, they are yours if you still want them. \ To all, I am in the Rocket City, North Alabama (aka Huntsville) and the car came out of the Columbus, Ga area and has been sitting for a while. It is a pieced together car, the core support is blue, the front fenders were orange, and the rest of the car was brown. Lot's of bondo and welding on the frame rails. I will get some pics up later today! Thanks for all of the responses. I will do what I can this week as I will be traveling on business starting the 12th and not back until the 19th or 20th.....Damn, retirement is harder than working!
  22. Hi guys, As a long time lurker and relatively new member I thought I would offer up the parts I don't need from the parts car I bought last week. I feel like I owe all of you a chance before I go to ebay with them. It is a '73 and I am planning on keeping the engine (roundtop SU's) and the bonus 5-speed and most of the suspenson parts. What I have that is good are the front wiring harness, dash is &^%$ but gauges appear to be good, vent control, heater core etc, vent pipes (plastic) and a lot more. BTW, the car had a complete a/c system including evaporator and controls. Virtually none of the interior trim pieces are any good and seats are bad as well. All of the glass is good with the exception of the windshield. Let me know what you need and I will give all of you first shot. I am not looking to make high $$$, just trying to keep some of the old parts where they need to be. I will also post some pics in the classified section and I hope I haven't violated forum rules by posting in this section. Thanks, Paul BTW, I also picked up a LSD r-192 (190) from a 510 racer buddy of mine. Price-FREE ONE FINAL THING, for each part sold here I will make a donation to the forum and I assure you it will not be minimal!

I AGREE! Hi Carl and Coy, I lurk here a lot, but rarely post but felt I could chime in a little on this. Carl is right, I carried a badge for 25 years (in Alabama) and I can say with a little authority that not only girls but boys between 16-20 are a handlful in a car like a Z. I know I WAS when I bought my first Z (1971) at the ripe old age of 18. Not to mention the number of times I had to deliver the message that their loved ones were seriously injured or worse in the high ouptut cars their parents had given them. Thankfully I found some local sports car nuts and received many, many hours of driving training from national champions that helped to keep me alive! Even having bought my own car, I still did stupid things on the streets (and occasionaly still do!) but I lived to tell it. Carl, like you my kids are spread. Boys 19 and 15 and a daughter who is 8. I screwed up and bought a RX8 and taught my oldest how to drive it. He had never driven a manual. In fact he drove a 960 Volvo at the time. I think the Volvo met all of your requirements Carl, Heavy, slow, air bags, and lots of steel in the right places Long story short, after he gained a full academic ride at a major university I lost the battle and ended up saying "Yes Dear" when my wife bought my then 18yo a 2003 RX8. But then I intervened. He had already tried autox with me and had experienced being out of control, at speed, in a controlled environment. I made him go to the local SCCA drivers school, and he wanted to compete. He learned VERY QUICKLY about how out of control you can get in a car like a Z or an 8. Lots of power, relatively low weight and this little thing called trailing throttle oversteer that Z cars are famous for. Get your daughter to a high performance drivers school, make her work on the car with you, make her pay for tires that she WILL burn off, and say some prayers. Maybe she some of it will rub off and she will act responsibly. So far my oldest has and I did everything that I am suggesting that you do. Good luck with the Z, I know I enjoy mine even if I am being lazy on on the CPU instead of the rust of my current Series I car.......... Paul

As a newb I thought I would chirp in here. 1st car was a '64 Rambler American 4T. Not a very sexy car. For my second it was a '65 GTO seen below and the 3rd was a '71 240z

Sorry about the delay in response, work got in the way. Overall the car is in very good condition. my plan is to disassemble, fix the battery box area and pasenger floorpan/frame rail. Then do the rest of the car slowly. I hope to make it a very fun street car. Only some mild improvements in suspension and engine. Here is a picture of another Z I owned long ago:
