280z going for over 6,000 on ebay ...
I agree, I have one :cheeky: I might have left the impression I thought this price was to high for the car ... I think it's about spot on for it's market value. I was just surprised at the price as I have seen some VERY clean, partially refurbished 240's go for less. I'm glad to see this car going for this price, it means the mean market value of our cars is going up ... it also means spare parts, parts cars and the like will go up in value and most likely cost . I miss being in the US and having a ready supply of easy to find (well at least cheaply mail ordered parts) for our S30 cars ... here in Europe, it's slim pickings ...

280z going for over 6,000 on ebay ...
I ran across this today ... a 1977 280z going for over 6,000USD on Ebay. I know good 240's will hit this range, but for a 280z I never thought it was possiable (in it's current condition). It's well kept, but still has rust here and there and carpet that is discolored. Just thought I would share this interesting find. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1977-Datsun-280Z-Nissan-52000-miles-Datsun-280Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ009QQitemZ190155643403QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

What you look like.
First photo is from a family function that my wife snapped. The second is me in usual work attire and my reason for being over here in Belgium, cycling. I would get a photo with the Z, but it's at the mechanics getting registered for the road here in Belgium. It 'failed' the inspection test because of a cracked Tie Rod Boot ... of all things ... they get picky here about some things at times.

Movie of the year
The raunchy factor was way up there (the drawing obsession monologue!)... in fact I read it has the most curse words of any movie (or at least curse words per minute) ... but I didn't find it nearly as offensive as South Park: The Movie or other movies that use curse words a lot. Mainly because the language is what it would be among friends and wasn't thrown in there for "shock" value, it was just part of what make the characters what they were. Super Bad is in a special category of films which are character driven and for me these are always the most rewarding to see.

Movie of the year
I really liked CARS ... watched it on a plane over the Atlantic last year, made the trip go by much faster. My favorite movie this year was Super Bad ... I saw it last month in the US while on a trip there. Was one of the funniest movie, if not funniest, I have ever seen. See it in theaters with a packed house, the laugher is non stop. It doesn't come out till the very end of October here in Belgium. I am going to go and see it again that night to with my wife.

Fixing Passenger outside door handle
This takes about 1 to 3 hours for both doors depending on all that you do in removing the handles and fiddling with things in the door while you already have the door panels off ... while your door handles are off I suggest: -- looking for and securing the lower window stop -- greasing the window tracks -- replacing the window channel felt if need be (the window will rattle when it is lowered inside the door if it is bad) -- think about adding some sound insulation to the doors if you can, B-quite is some goos stuff. It will take the "ting" noise out of the door and give it a nice thud. -- Adjust the locking mechanism so that when your girl goes to open the door it will open earlier in the up-pull of the handle. The handles don't require the removal of the glass (normally) for replacement, but they can be a PITA with small bolts. My small 8 mm ratchet wrench was great and some patience. It's work for nimble hands, but it can be done. If you do these things your cars doors should be good to go for years to come!

Broken in....
5 years ago i was in New York visiting a friend and they broke into my Sentra for a crappy cassette player ... I bought it specificaly because it was crap and wasn't a tempation to steel ... worst part was they stole about 800 dollars of bicycle parts that were in the trunk (chainrings and cogs for a special single speed bike I had) ... the police laughed when i told them the radio was 50 new and cassette. The broken window and replacement of the power window controls was also a huge pain in the rear ... i feel your pain.

Engine Bay Harness from scratch ... I'm planning to build it ...
After reading these replies and looking at how things are I don't know if we can come up with a "generic" harness that will fit all of our model years. I'm not saying it can be done, but I am preparing mentally for a tough time at doing it :tapemouth. For the moment I am focusing on the engine bay harness ... the dash ones are a bit more complicated and they don't see nearly the amount of dirt, moisture and temp exposure the engine harnesses do. At the very minimum I want to be able to source and make available the required plugs for our harnesses. Yes I know there are 'better' more modern plugs out there, but it will make restoring cars easier and fixing current problems these cars might have with original harnesses. My work season is about to wrap up and I will finally have some free time to get some quality Z time in ... we can see how thing progress and start to work out some ideas ... Thanks for the input and ideas ...

Engine Bay Harness from scratch ... I'm planning to build it ...
11 to 13 variations ... fun stuff! :stupid: Well I plan to at the very least provide a "build kit" for each year with the correct plugs and details on what needs to be bought to complete them. It's going to be a cool winter project for me and one to really help make these cars run better. Thanks for the reply Zs-ondabrain.

Engine Bay Harness from scratch ... I'm planning to build it ...
Ok, a quick update ... I am slowly sorting out all the different plugs that are being used in the engine bay harness's and it's going well. If I can't locate replacement options then I will be getting molds made for the connections. Now to ask what I have asked before but didn't hear a reply ... How many variations are there out there for the different years for engine bay harness's. I know my 75 is different from the 78 harness I have been using as my guinea pig. The way it looks right now I am going to have to be making up boards for all 8 years of the car if I plan to make these for people ... I'll be posting off an on to this thread whenever I have problems or I'm needing some help with the project.

Shipping options/companies from USA to Australia?
While not always a solution you can always weigh the idea of turning the cost of shipping into an airline ticket to where you are getting the carbs and having a vacation. Yes there are other costs involved, but hey, you can always meet up with some of the Z car guys on the board here ... be sure to check the total weight and size of the box you have to bring back. The general rules for airlines are 62 inches for the combined high, length and width and a weight of no more than 32 kilos (70lbs). You can also buy stuff for the Z car while on the trip and save on the cost and shipping at the same time, or resell to others in Australia to help pay for the trip.

Testing the windshield washer pump - 75 280z
I have a 1975 280z and I want to test the pump on the windshield washer bottle. Is there a way to connect it directly to the battery to get power to it? There are only two wires coming from the pump, one that is Black with a yellow stripe and another that is Blue with a red stripe. Any help would be great on the matter. Also, what voltage does the pump work at? I assume 12volt, but some things work on other voltages. Ciao,

Tank rust
"While I'm at It" it syndrome strikes again!!! If you aren't careful the car will 'suddenly' be in more pieces than you ever thought ... I had "While I'm at It" syndrome a year and a half ago and just go over it before the disease fully took me over! You should check out this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19034&highlight=tank+por-15

Gas Tank
For the 280z series the 75 to the 77 have one style and it changed in 78 (I believe) ... I have no idea about 240z's and 260z's.

Watch my Z video!!!
I have to say my car is defiantly a woman ... looks good, I like to take it for a ride all the time, but it gives me all sorts of $hit :stupid: and decides to be a pain in the arse to me at random times ... it's a woman (metaphorically speaking :classic: ... and no not all women are pains in the arse, I love my wife, but she to can be a lot like my Z car at times ) Great Video BTW Darbji280z ...

Found a BRE Z die cast car (with photo) ...
Tin stamped is a better word, I just couldn't think of a better way to describe than "die cast" ... it's not heavy at all.

Found a BRE Z die cast car (with photo) ...
I am sure it will still be at the booth, St. Jacobs market, Gent, Belgium ... well worth the trip for the 10 days Gentse Feesten Festival, lots of live music, most of it free, tons of people out and a great time. I wish I could go more but I have to much work to do this week.

Found a BRE Z die cast car (with photo) ...
That is the exact reason I didn't get it! 22.50 euros to the real thing and not a toy is a better value in my book. I don't really collect these, just saw it and thought it was cool ... it was practically the first thing we saw at the market. Now if I can just get the Belgian government to work a little faster with my paperwork so I can register my car and drive it I'll be a lot happier! One thing I did see, was that the toy had what appears to be a 'G nose' front end. Did the BRE race cars ever have that added or were they just the normal front ends for the S30 body in North America?

Found a BRE Z die cast car (with photo) ...
So yesterday I was with my wife in Gent, Belgium for a large 10 day long (day 4) festival to enjoy the evening and get some dinner when we saw a market. As we walked around a red, white and blue car caught my eye. It was a 240z BRE racer with John Morton's name on the side of it. It was failry large, about 10 inches, but the dealer wanted 22.50 euros (about 30USD) and it was to much for me. Plus it wasn't in the best of shape. But I did snap a photo so I could share the car with the everyone. I hope it wasn't a very rare car, but I am sure people here know more than I about these things.

What's wrong with the 280's?
I have to agree ... my bumpers saved my car when my neighbor backed into my 280z ... Still, when I get the chance I am going to put on some 240z fiberglass bumpers in a year or two, but now I have garage so it's not as much of a problem.
