I'm the original owner of 1974.5 260Z. The gas gauge started to read less than reality 15 years ago to the point a full tank read 1/3 full on the gauge last year. Then it just sat on empty and never changed. I did pull the sending unit and checked with a meter. All good, leading me to suspect the gauge. I've recently started using a battery tender and while on a drive this morning noticed the gauge reading 1/3 full. However, when I sat a light the reading went down to 1/8. Green light, the gauge went back to 1/3 full. I'm thinking the float is probably saturated but the larger question is what's up with the gauge? Do I need to replace it or could it be in the wiring? I've seen comments about connections, fusible wires, fuses, etc. I know I haven't changed and fuses, nor has anyone been back behind the dash. In fact I really haven't experienced and electrical issues beyond this. I thought I'd throw this out for discussion. I'm wondering what next steps you guys would suggest.

Jim-I'm the original owner for my car so...thats 31 years. Cost me a total of $5815 before taxes. I'd say money well spent.

Gregg, I just had my 1974 1/2 260 redone and considered swapping the old federal mandate bumper for the cleaner look of the smaller bumpers. I found bumper parts are very difficult to procure and like the guys mentioned its more than a bumper swap. I suggest you identify all the parts you need and get a feel for prices. I think an attractive alternative would be aftermarket fiberglass or plastic bumpers. Good luck.

I just finished my exterior project using a local shop in Fairfield County Connecticut. The community of car buffs highly recommended him BUT he only works on restorations when the shop is slow. I had to wait two years for the Bugatti project he was working on to wrap up. Then he had my car from May till the third week of February. Took it down to bare metal, welded in new sheet metal and the car turned out better than new. If you want more info. let me know.

Are you looking for an engine out total restoration or is your focus mostly body work? Where are you in NY State?

My car has been laid up since May 2005 getting the body painted. I needed a jump to get her started this morning and once home threw the trickle charge on the battery. This evening she has power but when turning the starter over she just dims out and clicks. I noticed the original battery connectors are pretty beat up. I cleaned them up but they're so bad its impossible to get them to tightened down. I'm thinking it might be replacement time. I see cables online priced from over $100 down to $6.00. Surely you get what you pay for. What I have now is the lead post connectors with the adjustment screw on the side. Anyone have a suggestion? I see one online retailer suggesting that the lead connectors sold at auto zone are not the way to go.

Now I see two sets of new Konigs posted on ebay. Anyone care to share any opinions on how Konig rewinds compare against Revolution or Panasport?
