  1. I just replaced my auxillary air regulator to solve my problem of high idle when coasting but now I have a new problem. The car now emits black smoke and coughs and sputters while trying to drive (just around the lot). This problem didn't exist before we replaced the air regulator. What is causing this new problem? I just put new plugs in today and it's still running rich.

Ok, I'm still working on my high idle problem when down shifting or coasting. I've got an auxilliary air regulator ordered but if that doesn't solve my problem my next step is the BCDD. If I have to replace this does anyone know where to buy one. I've yet to be able to locate one on the internet. I would appreciate any help in this.

Ok, I'm still working on my high idle when downshifting, (RPMs shoot up to 2,000 to 2,200 when downshifting), I've got an Auxiliary Air Regulator ordered but still not sure that will solve my problem. If it comes down to it where can I get a new BCDD from?
  5. I'm a new owner of a '77 280z 2+2. The car was driven very little over the last 5 or 6 yrs, 96,000 original miles. When downshifting the RPMS will jump to 2,000 - 2,100 RPM and stay that way for 2 or 3 seconds. I've heard that I need to check the BCDD?? but I don't even know what this is. I'm located in TN and I bought the car from the original owner so I don't think it's a CA car. Can anyone give me any ideas or thoughts on what might be causing the high idle. I haven't had the car completely tuned up yet. I've replaced all the rubber fuel lines on the fuel injection system as the original ones were dry rotted. Along with this I replaced the radiator last w/e. This is my son's car that we are working on together. I purchased a service manual on CD that I have available to me and I am fairly mechanically inclined.

I recently purchased a '77 280Z that will become my son's car. It's a one owner with 95,800 miles. The car is in great shape for it's age with little work needing to be done to the outside. However, I need help/advice on an idling issue. When you crank the car it will idle at 800 RPM as per the manual. But when you drive the car and shift gears either up or down the engine stays at a high idle, roughly 2,000 RPM. This lasts for about 2 seconds and then it will idle down. As this is the first Z car that I've owned I'm trying to find out what is causing this or if it's normal. Any help is greatly appreciated.
