  1. Just confirms what I've always said..."There's plenty of head and leg room in these cars."

I agree. They're only original once.

That's what I thought! No complete Z at the moment, just a whole bunch of NOS parts I bought from a dealer that wanted to get rid of them. They were for my next project, an early 70 that I unfortunately lost in a garage fire a few years back. Also lost was my truck, a 71 240 parts car and 15 years worth of other Z parts I'd been stashing away for that and other projects. (I've had the virus for a while!) So until I can get my hands on another early Z project, I guess it's tillers and whatnots for me.

Enrique, Never could find a green decal. I thought the one I got was a 1967 production but I just went back and checked and sure enough it's a 1975 decal. Oh well...it matches the other AND maybe, just maybe, the farm judges will miss it! :nervous:

Holy cow..you weren't kidding on the "won't be cheap" part! Come to think of it, I believe it looks fine just the way it is.

Will, it wasn't exactly easy but I did manage to find a set of year/period correct decals for the engine cover. The old soak in water and apply kind! The hardest was the 4hp. one. The one I've yet to find is the "brand" decal that goes on the upper handle bracket. I've made a close "replica" of it with MS Paint but I've yet to do any research as to what it would cost to have someone produce it.

Not sure what I'll do with it now. Was gonna use it to break up some hard packed ground that needed some sod grass but that's been completed. Maybe if food prices keep going up, I'll start a garden. Cousin thinks I should put it in the farm implement show circuit. I haven't the foggiest. I do know that like most restorations, I'll never get back what I have in it. Especially the labor part!

First off.....restrain yourself and try to hold back your chuckles, I'm getting enough of that from my cousin! I found this "project" at a yard sale and though to myself I'll get it running, do a little work and then sell it. The problem is I hadn't yet found my dream 69/70 240 project, I had a garage full of tools staring forlornly at me and gobs of time on my hands. Next thing I know, the ol' "one thing led to another" got me and the result is this, my freshly restored 1966 Western Auto "Wizard" rototiller made by Gilson Brothers.

BRE-240Z & Go240Zags, Thanks for posting those 2 sites as alternatives for making search's on Craigslist easier. I've tried both now and here's what I found. This first is set up for systems using Firefox (which I'm not) but does gives you another method to accomplish the search for those not using Firefox. I tried that but didn't seen to get very good results. The second, as pointed out, requires you to still bounce from city to city. While better, it still made for a longer process than I cared for. By just adding the craigslist tag to the item I was searching for using Google, I found items much faster and I usually found almost all of the Craigslist results on the first 2 or 3 pages, depending on how tight a search parameter I set up. Also with Google, you automatically get a worldwide search.

The one I'd recommed is Awesome Z. Doug is a Certified Nissan Master Technician with over 30 yrs experience. http://www.awesomez.org/index.html BTW...Nice car you're picking up!

First let me preface this by saying this is for those of us (who like me) take a little longer to figure things out! :stupid: So anyway, I've been using Craigslist almost since the beginning and have always been frustrated by the lack of ability to do a nationwide search on their site. Having to go to each state, then city, then category to input the item your looking for and then back to start the process all over again, is tiresome to say the least. Sometimes it's just the simple things that work. For example..Google "1969 Datsun" and you'll get almost 17,000 hits. Now try "1969 Datsun" craigslist and you're down to 248 hits. Much easier to find these: 1) http://fresno.craigslist.org/car/712506846.html 2) http://norfolk.craigslist.org/car/673320635.html 3) http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/car/657734985.html Happy searching y'all!

Ok, I waited this long to see if anyone else was as truly amazed as I was to find out that the internal combustion engine was invented in the 1960's! :surprised Here's a couple historical highlights. 1) 1206: Al-Jazari described a double-acting reciprocating piston pump with a crankshaft-connecting rod mechanism. 2) 17th century: English inventor Sir Samuel Morland used gunpowder to drive water pumps, essentially creating the first rudimentary internal combustion engine. 3) 1806: Swiss engineer François Isaac de Rivaz built an internal combustion engine powered by a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen. 4) 1838: a patent was granted to William Barnet (English). This was the first recorded suggestion of in-cylinder compression. 5) 1854: The Italians Eugenio Barsanti and Felice Matteucci patented the first working efficient internal combustion engine in London (pt. Num. 1072) but did not go into production with it. It was similar in concept to the successful Otto Langen indirect engine, but wasn't so well worked out in detail 6) 1860: Belgian Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir (1822–1900) produced a gas-fired internal combustion engine similar in appearance to a horizontal double-acting steam beam engine, with cylinders, pistons, connecting rods, and flywheel in which the gas essentially took the place of the steam. This was the first internal combustion engine to be produced in numbers. Perhaps you meant 1860's.....a hundred years earlier.
  14. Wood screws? So besides rust, we now have to worry about termites! :tapemouth

Don't (Zcar) feel bad, you're (240Z) probably not (Datsun) alone!
  16. No matter what or how one feels about the war in Iraq, this individual gave his life to save others. No way in hell is that a "wasted life"!
  17. While turning a Z into a 4x4 is not my cup of tea, I can admire the creativity and craftsmanship of this persons efforts. It may be "different" from what you or I may do with our car, but it certainly isn't a joke.

If you have AAA or Roadside Assistance through your insurance company, give them a call and have them get it open. If not, flag down a wrecker and see if you can give them a little cash to "slim jim" your door. Good luck!
  20. Dave, I have a NOS combo switch that matches your 8/70 one. I won't double up on the pic's but here's one of the Part#.
  21. Naw...too easy! (3 people)
  22. All these responses are the result of individuals who may not have understood the intent of my post. After reading this..."One could argue that the bigger mistake was pinning the 'Datsun' name on a Nissan-designed, Nissan-engineered and Nissan-manufactured product, and hence misleading people into believing that it was a Datsun-designed, Datsun-engineered and Datsun-manufactured product.", I merely used a tad bit of sarcasm :devious: to point out other firms who have used brand names that are different from the parent company to sell their products. Period. That's it. Nothing about actually changing the name. Nothing about what their intent was for using a different brand name for marketing purposes. Nothing concerning how that brand name came about whether through acquisitions or dreamed up in the marketing department. So far it seems Jackhammer was the only one who "got it".
  23. Now we have 2 grumpy people hung up on spelling!
  24. Sorry, you must be confused. I WAS talking about Brand names (Chevrolet) and not the product lines of that brand (Impala, Corvette, Silverado, etc.) of a particular manufacturer (General Motors).
