  1. Less face it, the part in discussion is not some rare hard to find piece. Why go looking around for a make-do bolt with an obscure square thread or even begin to think about machining one, when you could easily find it on eBay, craigslist, classiczcars.com classifieds or one of its members(Arne for one). Heck, the dealer probably still has it.

Just check the completed listings on eBay as was suggested earlier to get a $ amount and then list it on craigslist/lexington. By listing it locally, you'll have a better chance of getting someone to check it out. http://lexington.craigslist.org/
  3. Ummm....y'all have heard about eBay, right? http://cgi.ebay.com/Datsun-240z-260z-280z-Spare-Tire-Hold-Down_W0QQitemZ130194697270QQihZ003QQcategoryZ33746QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Datsun-280Z-Spare-tire-Screw-Down_W0QQitemZ160074256168QQihZ006QQcategoryZ10076QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Datsun-280Z-Spare-tire-Screw-Down_W0QQitemZ160074256195QQihZ006QQcategoryZ10076QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem
  4. When I bought out a dealership a few years back, I was only looking for 240 parts. Lucky for me, because the parts guy said anything else would have to be cross checked on the computer, unless of course I could visually identify it. The 240 parts could be identified by the "E" in the number if placed as such..xxxxx-Exxxx. With the 260 & 280Z, if you replaced the "E" with an "N", there was a good chance they might be for those models but not a guarantee. Also alot of 280ZX parts have a "P" but no guarantee there either. I know this doesn't help much but it's the best I can do. :disappoin

Perhaps you choose the wrong occupation and should instead be working for Hallmark!
  6. Yeah, it appears someone did a little custom job on the console and added a throttle control as well.
  7. Just saw your list after my post and you definitely got some goodies. A money maker for sure!
  8. He may have gotten a Pearl or just an empty oyster. To quote the seller...."I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S THERE 280Z AND 240Z USED FOR KEY WORDS ONLY." We'll have to wait and see what zed2's inventory turns up. Hopefully he'll have a string of pearls when he's finished!

Well Bob, I guess I've sold more than I thought I had. I have 5 1/2 sets left, unless there are more buried somewhere in the garage. (possible!) Anyway, I thought I read something in another thread that indicated you may be in need of a single mirror due to a damaged casing on one of yours. If that's the case, shoot me a PM, I'm sure we can work something out.

Here's some pic's of the last set I sold.

Those were for sale by a member of our forum. Good for him! I've been selling sets for $150 and mine are bead blasted, totally refurbished and complete with mounting brackets and rubber gaskets. Guess I'll have to up the price on my 10 remaining sets.

Maybe, maybe not. The same mirrors that the dealers installed on the Black Pearl were also being sold to the general public and could be found in most auto part stores at the time. I purchased a set for my 240 back in the early 80's from one of the local parts stores here in Houston. So the dealer or a previous owner could have installed them on you car.
  13. Well, it just sold. Was that your friend that won?

You bet! I was spraying and a breeze blew just a little misted chemical back on my forearms and in less than a minute I was like, "DANG!" Then I thought, what if this had gotten in my eyes? So yes I like this stuff, but because it's spray on, cover your skin and WEAR EYE PROTECTION!

This summer, I got started working on an old tiller that I was gonna just do a little clean up on and the ol' "as long as I'm doing that, I might as well do this" got me. This thing (1966 Western Auto "Wizard" tiller made by Gilson) had three coats of paint on it and was being a real pain. I too went to the Depot and got a can of Kleen Strip. Had to use the entire can on just the handle bar section. (Brush it on, wait, remove barely 1 coat, clean and repeat the process for the other 2 coats!) So one day while I was at the auto parts store picking up some paint, I saw some spray on paint remover by Tal-Strip and thought I'd give it a go. Boy, am I glad I did. This stuff went through most of the 3 coats with one application, was alot easier to apply (spray on) and was only about $5 bucks a can. You will definitely need to apply during the temperature range recommended and be sure to follow the safety tips (cover skin and use eye protection) as this stuff burns like hell when it gets on you.

A friend sent this to me and I find it totally absurd and astounding if true. For the life of me, I can't understand corporate thinking these days! http://www.adrants.com/2008/01/ford-slaps-brand-enthusiasts-returns.php "Ford Slaps Brand Enthusiasts, Returns Love With Legal Punch While brands certainly don't want people using their products, logos and other related imagery to create products of their, own, the hammer that Ford legal dropped on the Black Mustang Club seems a bit heavy handed. Recently the club created a calendar which contained images of club members' cars photographed by the members themselves. Ford didn't take kindly to this and asked CafePress, the service the group had chosen to print the calendars, to kill the project claiming all the images in the calendar are the property of Ford...including the Black Mustang Club logo. It's understandable that a brand would and should do everything it can to protect itself from any kind of potential negative effect but to attack a group of people who, clearly, love the product in question simply for showing their love of that product is, well, idiotic and more harmful to the brand had they done nothing at all. BMC Owner Lisa commented to group members, "I'm sorry, but at this point we will not be producing the 2008 BMC Calendar, featuring our 2007 Members of the Month, solely due to Ford Motor Company's claim that they own all rights to the photos you take of your car. I hope to resolve this soon, and be able to provide the calendar and other BMC merchandise that you guys want and deserve!" We hope this can be resolved as well. It's one thing to protect your brand from being harmfully tarnished. It's another to shoot down the very people who love your product the most.Wake up and smell the CGM, Ford."

Here's a couple of old Datsun race cars for sale. One with race history: http://cgi.ebay.com/Bob-Bondurant-Datsun-710-Race-Car-rare-earliest-known_W0QQitemZ170184680446QQihZ007QQcategoryZ98064QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem One with....well who knows. http://cgi.ebay.com/Race-Car-Circle-track-race-car-datson-roll-cage-dirt_W0QQitemZ300188979594QQihZ020QQcategoryZ107066QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  18. So, I found this ad for a set of Series II hubcaps on Houston's Craigslist and was wondering what y'all would pay for them. http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/532779330.html The seller sent me these pic's and while the fronts look to be in pretty good shape, the back of two caps have a considerable amount of surface rust.
  19. HLS30-00780, which I checked out this past weekend, had engine# 3525 (ID tag) and a production date of 1/70.
  20. Mystery solved and Craig was pretty much correct on this one! Approximately one month after the ad appeared the owner finally contacted me and after another month of back and forth emails and phone calls, I was able to check this car out last night. It is an "early" car, just not as early as the ad would lead one to believe. How someone could think #00780 is anywhere near #00006 is beyond me! That's right....#780. Scheeesh :stupid: I took pics, but because it's in a garage that's filled wall to wall and floor to ceiling with junk, I couldn't get any pictures of the car in all its glory.. Here's a break down of what I found. Overall the car is in pretty good shape. It's got most of the unique "early" parts but it is missing a few. Most notably the matching # block! While there is an engine in the car and two other complete engines that go with the car, none of the 3 are the original. None of them have an E31 head or the 2400 valve cover. The engine in the car does have the original carbs and manifold. The interior is mostly complete. All the panels are there and while I couldn't do a thorough inspection of each, they didn't appear to be cracked or busted up. This includes the rear panel with "no inspection plates". They are faded very badly though. The door panels are in "good" condition. The chrome strips are not peeling and I saw no major rips/tears. Because of all the junk inside the car I didn't get to inspect the tranny/wheel well vinyl as well as I'd like to, but what I saw looked good. The dash is toast and has 6-8 major cracks. Missing the original radio and the steering wheel is a "later" one with holes. The console appeared to be in good condition. Sorry, no throttle control! Fuse box cover/ash try is there but missing the handle on the tray door. The seats are original but are all torn up. (At least the driver side was and the passenger side was too full of stuff to tell.) No seat belt hooks on either side of them and it didn't look as if there ever were any. Has the chrome coat hangers though. All the emblems with the exception of the "Datsun" on the deck lid are there and look to be the original metal ones. Now as far as rust goes, we all know there's gonna be some and no exceptions here. The bottom of both front fenders were shot and the dog legs had major bubbling going on. The rockers surprisingly looked pretty good but considering what was going on at each end, you'll get no promises from me. The car was sitting on 4 flat tires so I couldn't get under there to see what was happening underneath it and inside the floor wells were too packed to check the floor pans from the top side. The battery compartment had rust but because there was a battery in it and I couldn't get to the underside via the wheel well, I can't say for sure just how bad it is or isn't. The hood looked to be original and I didn't see any rust at the lip. The hatch glass has the vertical defroster lines. Taillights are in good/very good shape with some pitting on the chrome strip. Windshield was also in good/very good condition with no cracks. So, that's pretty much it for now. We haven't talked price yet and probably won't, as without the matching block I personally am not interested in this car. If anyone else is, pm me and I'll get you some contact info.
  21. I"m curious, were there problems with the vendors, low turn-out for the swap meet; just wondering why you feel that there won't be any more swap meets at future conventions.
  22. Since the referenced eBay auction closed with O bids and we don't know what $ amount FilipeA actually paid for this item, $345.00 may only be a record for "ASKING" price.
  23. Not with the blue interior pieces and blue engine compartment. It's probably just a replacement door.
  24. Arne...I also have one NOS wiper arm. I think is an early one, as the packaging is the old style and it doesn't have the logo on the base. Looked on the underside and found these markings. Is there a difference on yours?
  25. Here's a pic of an early NOS glovebox lock with keys.
