Seems we got two threads going on the same subject. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&threadid=21514
  2. Have you given any thought to possibly adding another core or two to your radiator? It may solve your problem and could save you money in the long run by having a professionally rebuilt radiator vs. a 30+ yr. old one.

Just chaps your @$$ doesn't it. GET OVER IT
  4. Thanks Alan, I read you LOUD and clear. Now I'm wondering about the E32 mark on the manifold. It is my understanding, at least here in the U.S., that parts with the "E" code (xxxxx-E4100, E31 etc.) were made for the 240Z. So my new question is was this manifold made for the S30 as some kind of "accessory/performance" part or were "E" parts made for other vehicles?
  5. Check out this set-up currently on Ebay. Did any JDM S30's ever come equipped with this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-L6-240Z-260Z-810-L24-L26-4-barrel-carb-manifold_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36474QQitemZ8064000945QQrdZ1

  8. Isn't this about the fourth time this threads' title should have been changed?

Yup, long goes on the rear carb.

I'm not saying that it can't be made to work. I do however think that when you spend your hard earned money for something, you shouldn't have to settle for anything less than what you expected to get. He shouldn't have to improvise unless the part he needed was no longer available.

The '72' float bowl lids had two different size float 'ears'. Why, I haven't a clue but possibly to correct a problem they discovered with the older SU's or maybe just to make them work a little better. Who knows. Anyway, you shouldn't have to bend the crap out of one of your floats just to make it work. I would either send the incorrect one back and get the right one or just use your old one if it's still good.
  12. If the top of the "T" screw is above the plane of the deck, you probably have the wheel facing the wrong way . Check and make sure the outside face of the wheel is facing down in the spare compartment.

  17. Technically you and Alan are correct. However, I did begin my statement with "I believe" which means/implies that what follows is my opinion. In addition, I also wrapped the original thread title to show what my statement referred to and I had thought that everyone would have recognized that my statement was a paraphrase of the original thread title. Sorry to have confused some of y'all, I guess in the future when I paraphrase something, I will begin my statement with...I believe the intent of the original question was....!

Now that's the way to do stripes on a Z! Excellent job.
  19. Hey Alan, I didn't give you permission to move my quotation mark but I guess you had to in order to validate your reply.
  20. I believe the original question was would an "American" 240Z in #1 condition ever be worth as much as the current bid on a "American" Olds 442 W-30 muscle car.

You don't say what type compressor you have, so I'll assume because you mention "dealer installed" that it's the huge bulky piston job of old! If you wish to keep the car "period" and as it came from the dealer, then by all means have that compressor rebuilt. However, if keeping it "period" is not all that important to you, I would strongly suggest you go ahead and switch to the much smaller and more effective rotory model. It will also provide less drag on the engine when in operation.

Sorry, gotta disagree with you here. SU's are some of the easiest carbs to play with. Not sure if they're tuned right? Just check the plugs. Carboned up and reeking of gas...too rich, light grey to white...too lean. Front carb...plugs 1,2,3 Back carb...plugs 4,5,6. Can't get much easier. Had a 280Zx and with all the electronic sensors, brain and other cr*p, it was a nightmare sometimes to figure out what was making the car run like sh*t. Give me mechanical stuff any day.
