Rover V8
Just saw an old Top Gear in which they had a short tribute to the Rover V8, as it had just been taken out of production. Doesn't Land Rover, TVR, and others, use this engine in their current models? What has replaced it?? Wow, lighter than an iron L4, that has got to do wonders for a Z!!

Rover V8
Is it an aluminium block???? How much lighter is it to say a LS1?

Rover V8
The time and parts that the 4.0 Rover / TVR took to get set into that Z was incredible! Compared to a SBC, how much less effort and weight does that 4.0 take?

2002tii vs 240Z
Odd question, but would it be safe to say that the 240Z has 2/3 the internal capacity of the 2002? A smallish trunk and back seat up against a hatch-ish sports coupe, I don't really have much interest in the back seats, but for the space to move my quite limited collection of possessions

2002tii vs 240Z
Thanks! So the 2002 is a nice car, but not as good as the 510 or a 240z . . . right? Time to hit up ebay and craig's list and see what 240's are out here.

2002tii vs 240Z
I too much prefere the styling of the Z, but it is also a bit heavier, and how well does the engine put out? The 240z is rated for 150hp and the 2002tii, while very limited, performance parts can be had to boost non-tii's close, is at 130hp. "pulled strong", but compared to a Z, how strong? How did the handling compare?

2002tii vs 240Z
I might get banned for this, but heck . . . . Last Sunday I drove a really good friends early '70s 2002tii, and wow it was incredible!! He had a performance cam on it, original mechanical fuel injection, and the steering was tightened up, but with pretty much stock suspension. I've never driven a 240Z, and as there are 2002's for sale at similiar prices as comparable quality Z's around up here, how do the two stack up? The BMW is sure ugly, but once your inside it doesn't matter much. Thanks!

'73 240Z $500 - advice !!!
According to this site, Putting a T5 transmission into a non-280ZX will not work, as the lengths of the transmission and driveshaft are different, along with just about every other detail. Will a 280ZX [turbo or not] engine jive with earlier generation transmissions without such incompatabilities? I'm just trying to figure out what combinations of engines and transmissions would work together without having to have customization done to the drive train beyond what I might be able to do. Thanks!

'73 240Z $500 - advice !!!
As I was driving up to take a closer look at the condition of that car, ie underbody rust, overall condition, everything that I have been informed to look for, there was a whole haggle of people. Big ford truck with a dual axle enclosed trailor, early '90s mustang tricked out to the max. Somebody got to it before I could Just means I'll be looking for a bit longer! Thanks again for all the info. A '70-'73 with a L28ET with a 5 speed T-5 transmission from a '82 or '83 280ZX is my goal now, just have to watch all the listings I can find. Great site by the way!!

Thanks! What year do you like best ? I am going to be leaving to take a look at the car again, would I be able to tell if it is a manual or automatic from the underside of the vehicle?

'73 240Z $500 - advice !!!
Thanks for the advice, I am going to phone the local yard and see if they have any I6's that might be useful, and am going to take a look at them before I heading over to the vehicle of interest. I really don't want to be rebuilding every component, if there is a workable transmission and engine I might buy it. Finding out just how much needs to go into the car has been my purpose, and if A) there is hardly any rust and what is there is easily dealt with and I can what I need for less than my first born then I'll probably bite. Thanks, this won't be an immaculate vehicle for some time, I might even be using the springs that are with it for a while just to get farther along. How many years / models of engines will drop in? Minor mount changes are fine, but would the engine / transmision etc from the 260z / 280z / 280zx work? EDIT Montoya - IF and I really mean it, the car needs body work due to rust, etc, it isn't going to happen. From what I remember, the body was straight and the paint was not sun damaged, just faded. Major thanks for all the information!
