Nashville
I'll be there! Been trying to clear up the little point deductions I got in San Antonio. Just put in a new MSA aluminum radiator. Going to make it a 3 week vacation. Z-con, over to Asheville for a few days, back to Nashville Superspeedway for the truck race and a chance to meet Jennifer Jo Cobb, and then home to Fla.

new radiator
Been running the original radiator for the past 17 yrs. Absolutely no problems, but I'm a little apprehensive about the drive to Nashville from C. Fla. at the end of July. So, I bit the bullet and got a new aluminum radiator from MSA. Looks good; and I filled it up just now and let it get up to temp. All looks good; no leaks, weeps or any other bad stuff. I think I'm about ready for the convention. Just an oil change and a chassis lube to go.

CA Blue License Plate Restore
Here in Fla., we can use a year-correct plate on any car over 25 yrs. old. It needs to be sent to the capital (DMV) for validation, but when it comes back, it's yours for as long as you own the car. It cannot be restored when sent for validation, but I believe after it's on your car, that is OK. I have one on my 71 and just recently repainted it. I have not had any police problems.

Oh no!
I have a door that I fixed some time ago. I used some small (1" wide) hinges and pop rivets. You just need to cut out two areas on the metal sleeve(?) that goes over the section of hinge attached to the dash so the hinges sit flush. Sorry about the rust, but this has been sitting in my garage for a while.

Mylar logo'd sunshades - Completed
Arne, many thanks !! Got my package in todays mail. Hell of a packing job. Now to wait till the temp gets up a bit. (yep, even here in Fla. it's unseasonably cold) Hopefully this undertaking didn't drive you completely off the wall. Thanks again for all your work.

Need help from Series I owner! Hatch vent dimension help
Here are some pics. Hope this helps. These were taken of the left side hatch vent. By my reckoning, it is 108 mm from the edge of the hatch, 218 mm center to center, 32 mm from the weatherstrip edge on the left end and 34mm on the right end.

Whats your Z plan for 2010?
Maintain, detail and drive. Hopefully, get to Nashville for the convention. I would like to see if I can improve on my 2nd in class at Zcon 09, but I haven't gotten my score sheet yet. Also would like to meet more of these online friends at shows and conventions.

Maybe I'm totally stupid, but....
I have been trying to contact the ZCCA via their website. I want to find out where my scoresheet from the Zcon09 car show is. I was told they would be mailed in about 2 weeks. Well, when I tried to email them, I get asked a 'random question', which is 'What was the first Z sold in the US?' I answered 240; HLS30-00013, series 1 240-Z, 1970 240-Z. All of these are wrong. The message will not go through if the question is answered wrong. Anybody have a clue as to how to contact them? Anyone happen to know the correct; as per ZCCA; answer?

Tips for working with repair shops
I know from experience, when dealing with body shops, NEVER tell them you're in no hurry. You won't see your car for months.

Bill Coffey's Dream Garage Party
I'd like to second Carl's comments. This event is just too awesome to miss. I had a great time, seeing all the Z's and meeting the owners. Can't wait till the next one.

heat shield for triple Webers
I am currently using an .090 plate of aluminum attached to the underside of my carbs. I still seem to get the fuel 'pukeing' effect from the Webers on longer drives. I end up with fuel on the shield and down on the left frame rail. Someone mentioned to me that the plate needs to have insulation on it, i.e. header wrap or similar, to actually block the transfer of heat from the header. My question is, should the insulator be exposed or open; or would a sandwich of aluminum, insulation and aluminum be OK? Also, should there be some sort of insulating washer between the shield and the mtg. points on the carbs?

Classic car insurance vs regular auto insurance
Most classic car or collectable policies have mileage limits, use restrictions, and garaging codicils. If the car is not a daily driver, you don't plan on cross-country trips, and you have a reasonably secure garage, it's probably the way to go. There are some policies with benefits, like covering your spare parts that are stored in the garage that might not be covered under a homeowners policy.

2009 International Z Convention-San Antonio, TX
Just have a quick question. Is alcohol permitted at the venue for the car show? I usually like to have cold beer while I show my car and wander around in the heat looking at other cars. If it is not, no big deal. Just curious.

Anyone bought their old z back years later?
Best story I ever heard about this came to me at a local car show. Seems a young soldier just back from Vietnam bought a 70 240-Z, and had it a short time, before he was sent back for another tour. Not wanting to just sell the car to anybody, he sold it to an Army buddy. One thing led to another and the second tour turned into a military career. Shift to the late nineties. The now-retired soldier was looking for a vintage truck to work on as a project. Found one on-line and he and his son drive to the west coast to check it out. It didn't meet his expectations, so he decided to take a tour of the Ca. wine country on his way back to Fla. While passing through one town, he remembers that this was his old buddies hometown. Lo and behold, he still lived there and was a successful restauratour(?sp) They went to his home for dinner, and after, the friend said, 'I have a surprise for you'. In the garage was the Z. Still stock, unrestored, and in perfect condition. It was sold back to it's original owner for the same price it was sold to the second owner. ($3,400?) It was then DRIVEN back to Florida, with no problems, where it resides today, and sometimes comes out to car shows. ( No, it is not my car. But it is a great story.)

finding stuff in the car!
Always, always clean out any old car you get. One never knows what might be found during a police search. I don't think they'll buy it that you just bought the car last month, and haven't gotten around to cleaning it out. I went through an 86 300ZX I bought and found a bunch of change and a gold wedding band.

Mr. K 100
My goodness, I hope we haven't all forgotten. I'd like to lead a rousing cheer of 'BANZAI !!!' for Mr. K today. It's not everyday that someone reaches 100 yrs. old; especially someone so near and dear to our hearts. Happy Birthday, Mr. Katayama, and thank you for all you've done for us Z lovers. As an aside, I had my Japanese flag flying outside my home today to commemorate this august occasion.

ZCON 2009 Anyone?
I'll be coming from Fla. Wifey wanted to go, so I'm having to trailer the Z out there. She would not have lasted past Orlando in the un-air conditioned, loud, 240.
