  1. What a cool journey; the log is a fun read. Most of the stuff you needed for a safe long trip back I had new on my self in the garage here in San Diego. I even have a nice 4 core radiator for a 78. My old 78 which I gave to the neighbor kid was wrecked and many of the parts were/are available. I am sure you car sticks in the Chicago area. I was there in October for a college football game; stayed in Wrigleyville which was just awesome. Welcome to the club and I hope you enjoy your Z for years to come.
  2. There is a low # 70 in Oregon that a member here just pulled out of a barn. Needs work, but it is a sub 2000 VIN. He has picture in his post. Hope you are feeling better.
  3. Jerry put it best, I second it.
  4. Wow, so sad to see a car that has so much history with its owner meet its end in such a tragic way. I am sad for the loss of a beautiful car but happy that the car protected you from injury. I have not see one that hit that hard in a long time. Godspeed.
  5. Looks like a good deal if the DMV does turn out too expensive. It got my attention, might want to jump it and flip it.
  6. Les is really one of good guys in this business. I know the he was on the east conducting business for a client of his. In this hobby we are lucky to have a place like Classic Datsun Racing. I know he will take care of you, he always does without fail.
  7. Well said and well done by all. I like this site because it is populated by mature individuals. I agree with the search option, I just like that people don't blow up people who don't use it like on another certain Z website. Welcome back Dave, would like to meet you at MSA, just to say hello.
  8. Jerry, I know Les is on the road, heading from Virgina to Florida picking up cars and parts for his racer customers. The good news is that Aaron was hard at work on your fine car on Friday when I stopped by to drop of some huge Panasport racing wheels. I think by later that day your car was a roller.

A Facebook page would also be a great place to get the word out. A good place for many people to share the excitment.
  10. I look forward to being there. Love the the garage sale. The Z for sale area is an excellent idea. I guess my parts swap meet idea missed the mark.
  11. Len, I am not sure if Blue interior talk might be a hi-jacking of the thread or not, having said that; SEM vinyl paint might be the way to go for budget reasons. I would however buy all the new vinyl and plastic parts from Les at Classic Datsun Racing. I was there the other day and saw a beautiful set of newly completed blue seats, they were sweet. For Zwhore, you might need the blue seat covers for your car, the ones with the air vents.
  12. I got a 71 that I saved from hot rodder death. It is a blue on blue as well. The problem with mine is that the PO painted the blue, black. I can get all the blue from Classic Datsun Racing but not sure if it is worth the money to do it. Les gave me some old blue parts that are servicable but I would have to buy blue diamond vinyl and seat covers to complete the interior. Leaning towards leaving it black. Good luck with you car.
  13. Got it too, I have brand new switches and nothing changed; reason, What Jimbob racing said. Clean the grounds and you will be good to go.
  14. I have to take those pictures of the Wesco's in my car, sorry I just keep forgetting. Funny story about the MSA version; I know one of the guys there at MSA, I told him about my Wesco belts and how much I loved them. Soon after that they came out with their version and I tought to myself; why did they not go with the Wesco belts? Oh well.

An interesting subculture in East LA. It is amazing what they get away with. The Z was set up that is for sure.
  16. I am almost 6 foot tall and like my seat back, the retractor does not take up that much room. I am very happy with the set up it feels and works like it came on it stock. I will take some picture with my cellphone tomorrow after work. Hit me up with a IM and I can send it to you via text message. These belts are safer than the original belts no matter what.
  17. A kid in my office just shipped a big arse Caddy from San Diego to Dallas for $500. I am sure a Z from LA will be about the same.
  18. I have the Wesco belts in my 73. I mounted them with no problem. I used the "L" bracket for the upper and bolted the retractor behind the seat on the lower mount. I have had them for 5 years now and I am very happy with them.
  19. Take your pick, both cars have negatives and positives. I am more of a 240 guy and I don't sweat salvage titles on 30 year old vehicles. If the car is straight and you are not looking for a concourse car it is fine. The price looks right on either. The engine bays on both look pretty stock; I vote for the 240.

How did you do that work? My daughter was so kind as to dent my hood for me. She bend in the right side and the center has a small crease. Do tell.
  21. I would have jumped all over $45K if I was selling a 78Z. I love Mecum Auctions; I spend my enitre Saturday night watching it. I have been thinking about finishing up my 73 right and selling at Mecum Monterey someday.

    Nice paint job.
  23. The guy's name is George, his prices are okay, he used to gouge on shipping. Not sure if he is still a shipping gouger or not, I would make sure to make it clear to him that you will not allow him to gouge you on shipping. I have had dealings with him selling him things. I had no problems with him, he ships out things quickly which is nice. As for his prices and where he gets his stuff, I have no opinion or expertise on that. He offers a service if he has what you want and it is a price you are willing to pay for item and for convience reasons you go with buying his stuff, and you are happy then I don't see a problem buying form him. I am not one to damage a person's business unless he or she does not deliver what they say they will. Please make sure to read the entire item description, make sure you understand that if it is new or used. There are about 3 guys on Ebay that seem to have new parts, Z-Connnection and Stock(something). Everyone needs a means to make money so they can feed themselves and thier families.
  24. MSA, Ebay, and this website's classified section. There are also many more options for those parts.
  25. I am glad to see Z cars and Datsun in general crossing the auction block at BJ, more and more the prices are coming to where it will be worth me fixing up my car and getting it ready for sale. Prices of cars are surprising; have you ever looked into what classic VWs sell for?
