240Z Header Recommendation
I understand......my friend gave me a really killer JDM header....but I guess I may not be able to use it. Not all headers are designed the same so maybe it may work.

240Z Header Recommendation
I was looking at MSA's header that was listed on ebay(a new marking idea that MSA has), anyway...it said that the header is "not for automatics" can anyone tell me why? I am just curious.

Your first Z car...
My first Z was a 1979 ZX Brown and Gold. Got for $300 in 1992 while I was stationed on the lovely island of Guam USA. It was hit on the passenger side door, you could not even open the door it was hit so hard. I got a rusty door from the junkyard and welded it together with the lower of of the dented door to make a complete door. We filled the dents with bondo and other things, sanded it out...painted it blue then sold it for $2000.00. The thing that stuck with me about that car was how great it ran...it gave me the Z bug since then I have never NOT been a Z owner. When I got back to the states in 94 I purchased my 78 which had 178K miles on the odo, it is now up to 380K on the original engine. I will never forget my first Z, she was ugly but fun to drive.

You might try Ed Hanson's in La Mesa for a real nice CAT back system. If you car is a federal model then it might not have a CAT. Several years ago one of my friends bought a 77 280Z here in San Diego, we took it to Ed Hanson's for an exhaust. They told him that there was no CAT so they looked up the VIN and said it was not a Cali car but a federal model. Because of this he was able to get a real nice manifold back system. In 1978 all Zs had CATs.

What do you think?
For what's worth, I have seen in person and did bring a very picky former owner of 10 Fairlady Zs with me to do a once over on the car. It is a good car for a RHD that is all I can say.
-
What do you think?
The foot rest thing that comes with the car is something you could turn around sell....I know the 26th is looking for one. I tried to break it free for the 26th but the seller will only sell it with the Fairlady and not seperate.

What do you think?
Not sure about the hood...I can't remember if the owner was going for a 432 look or that he just simply replaced the hood for another reason. At one time he had all the right parts to build a 432 replica. Like I said he has since sold off many of those parts and is currently selling them as well. This car used to belong to Les Canaday of Classic Datsun. He used it for race and pictures of it can still be found on his website advertise his ZG fender flares and carbon hood. My friend who has owned over 10 different Fairladys while stationed in Japan looked at the car, liked but was like you when it came to driving RHD in the states...not interested. He did however say the the engine was running real strong and the carbs are jettied out real nice. I think this car would be great for racing or something. I would be into the car if he was a LHD that is for sure. Also I only mentioned my opinion of the guy just in case anyone was interested in the car, that way they know what kind of person they are dealing with...that is all. I did not want to get chopped off at the knees for saying something nice about someone....geez.

What do you think?
I know the car and I know the owner. I would say that if you are into RHD this car is a very good candidate. Keep in mind at one time the owner wanted over $9K for the car. Has most likely since changed his price. He also used to have a TON of great parts, which he has sold off. I like the seller, I have seen the car in person and I would highly recommend it....if you are willing to drive on the right.

I got it from a friend when I was stationed in Japan and have not paid attention to it until I saw it on this car and one on a picture of a car in Alan Thomas' collection.

Safari rally videos/pics
Talked to my buddy from Nissan. He told me that it is not common to get into the Zama warehouse BUT that he can get me in if I want. I will plan a trip, I got room and board at Yokosuka. As for the thread about the dream garage cars being crushed or sold off, I will ask my friend about it, he would know. The Z in the picture of course belongs to Johnnie (can't remember the last name), who used to be Mr K's secretary at the Gardena Headquarters. From what I understand she as since given it to her son. Anyway it always at the WCN put on by MSA. So no S30Zs were crushed. I would have loved to buy the L320 in the Dream Garage. Got the poster of the Dream Garage in my own dream garage.

Rare hood fo sale on the Bay ^_^
Several years ago, while doing the Z Across America run(and if you remember the event it you understand my idea of what the word several means), I was driving the leg between San Diego and Gila Bend AZ, my car was overheating bad all the way, I was running it with the heater running full blast in the desert. Long story short, when I got my buddy's house in Phoenix, I looked up a radiator shop in the local area, I found a guy who build me a 4 core for my 78Z. Ever since that day, that car has never over heated again, what a difference the 4 core has made. It looks great too, mounts the same, can hardly tell the difference. Go for the 4 core instead of  stupid looking hood thing-a-ma-giggy.

Rare hood fo sale on the Bay ^_^
What I find funny about the part is that it was designed to get more air under the hood to help with the vapor lock problem that the Hitachi's were causing. It was not a performance mod or anything. To be honest; I don't think it looks that great on the car. I am not sure if he will get his price.

Why would you want a 280?
I own one of each; 73 and 78. I love both cars for different reasons. The 78 feels SO much better under me, a much more solid car, while the 73 feels lighter and and not as solid. Love the FI on the 78 but not the smog crap, here in Cali, the 73 with SUs does not require smog checks so there is so much more freedom to upgrade. Both are great cars...if smog testing was not an issue the 78 would be my favorite.

What wheel is this?
I was thinking it was a "Riken" wheel. They were an early eighties wheel name that I kinda of remember. I could be wrong of course.

Zed discoveries in California
Plan your next trip to Cali around April so you can attend the West Coast Nationals at MSA, the greatest Z day by far. Too bad you did not make it down the San Diego way, you would have seen many more Zs for sure, two in my driveway alone. By the way....I love Brisbane, I had such a great time when I was there back in 2000, the Irish Pubs were usually filled with many nice young ladies, the night life was great....the Sterling etc....awesome city.

Guese What Showed Up On Ebay!?!
Maybe trucked to MO and now the buyer either has buyer's remorse or bought thinking he would make a buck which I do not think will happen. I think it will be very hard to turn a profit on the resale of this car because according to the results on B-J's webpage the car went for "1972 DATSUN 240Z COUPE $12925.00" That amount was paid to B-J; they always get paid. If it turns out not to be a scam of course.

Correct Color Of Tailight Panel Nd Grill?
As long as this Mckrack who is supected of being Burt or Bert behaves himself, maybe it would be best to leave well enough alone. I don't know why this Burt or Bert is banned but I am sure he earned it. Just my 2 cents worth, I like to come in here for information on my favorite cars, snipping at each other is not always fun to read.

71' on Ebay
Looks too like he buffed out the paint too. I would not pay more than $4K for that car. If he gets more than $8K for it, I will be putting my 73 up next.

Buyer Beware!
I have been thinking about this for sometime, since I got a car via Ebay for $6K that I am not very happy with at all, to be honest I kinda of hate the car, but I could never tell my wife....of course. Mine is in about the same condition as troubledZ' car. It had only 98K miles, perfect dash and looked GREAT in the pictures. I even had family look at it but they are not Z car people so they thought it looked great. When I got it I had to dump almost $2K in it just to be comfortable and I am still not happy. I find new rust everywhere. Not sure if my seller was a liar or just in denial. I have an idea of a way to avoid these problems in the future. If you see a car on ebay and you want it, don't buy it unless someone from this board checks it out for you or someone you know and trust that lives in the area of the car. I also think that there is a great business idea in all this. Cars listed on ebay could be taken to an inspection station and be certified by someone who is an expert in detecting rust and verifying the condition of the running gear and age and wear of engine parts. If there was certification process I would only buy "certified" cars. Just shooting out ideas "brain storming". Every day I look at my ebay buy.....I get bummed out.

What valve cover is this? PLEASE HELP !
- Production dates
What is the last date of production for a particular year for early Zs. Example: My 73 has a date of 7/73 with a Vin number starting at 170. On the Zhome register my car is the last 73 listed that is stateside. I am also curious about 1978s as well. I looked around for vin number dates of production on the net but could not find anything. - Production dates
