Really do love this thing...
To restate what the others have said the Z is indeed an awesome daily driver. I drive mine just about every day, (barring taking out the trash or something). I have a 76 280 and like everyone said the torque is amazing, and I've added a 5-speed with brass shifter bushings so shifting and cruising are even better. I love the look on other drivers faces, some because they know, and think its cool and others because they have no idea what kind of car it is, only its an old one.

why!! does my 77 datsun 280z run to rich and flood out
hey nissan280z. I think 240zx is right about needing a little more info, but everyone is right about things to check. Corroded coolant temp sensor, mass air meter, fuel pressure regulator. these are all shots in the dark of course but in my experiance they have been good places to start.

75-78 prices?
I don't know about Ohio, but around here (VA) $2500 to $4000 would buy what I consider a nice Z. I've had 4 (75,76,77, and 78) and the most I've paid for one was $1300 but they all needed quite a bit of work. My 77 daily driver is in primer with molded on fender flares, MSA type III front end, ZX wheels and NACA style ducts in the hood. It has the full urathane bushing kit and new struts with an aluminum flywheel and ZX 5 speed manual. It also has a cracked dash, ripped seats and no carpet. But even so I would still ask at least $2500 for the car.

Brake Light won't go OFF!
txz1956 is right, I had the same problem with my 77. I disconnected the relay under the seat and the light went out, but now of course it doesn't come on at all. But It'll do until I can replace it.

74.5 260Z Need help on where to start?
Hello GrnZ, welcome to the board. I've never owned a carburated Z so I'm not sure about those, but I have had 4 280's (75 2+2, 76, 77, and 78 parts car). On just about all of them I went through the ignition cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil, whether they looked good or not. I would also do things like drain the tank and replace the fuel filter. When you get it drivable you also may want to check things like brakes and suspension bushings. I put the full urathane kit and new struts on my 77 daily driver and it was like a whole new car. Anyway hope you get her goin soon, Billy.

staggered 17" sport max wheels.
I've read on a lot of threads on this site about different wheel and tire combinations, regarding spacers and backspacing. My question is has anyone used these wheels http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-Sportmax-Nissan-240SX-rims-Staggered-S13-S14-wheels_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43957QQihZ018QQitemZ280186694258 they say they're for 240sx's so they have the right bolt pattern but are +35mm offset. I know they wouldn't fit a stock Z, but mine has molded on fender flares (about the same size as ZG's) and the fenders cut out. If I could use these with 35mm spacers (or whatever size spacer that would be needed) that would be a much cheaper alternative to custom 3 piece wheels. any thoughts? Thanks, Billy.

Brake warning light on after alternator upgrade
This is sort of on topic with this post so I'll ask here. I also recently replaced my alternator ( I also have a 77 280 ). I did a lot of research and found some great info about using an internally regulated alt. from a ZX. I bought the ZX alternator, followed the instructions for the 2 jumpers needed in the original regulator harness, and it worked great. But about 10 miles into my test drive the brake lamp relay under the pass. seat heated up and started to smoke! I disconnected the relay and everything else seems to work. anyone ever heard of this? I don't care if the BRAKE light doesn't work but I don't want to hurt anything else. Thanks, Billy.

What is this?
bob, I don't know what it does but I have one on my 77 also. I took the entire rear suspension apart recently to replace the bushings ( all urathane ) and i put it back. I can't see any purpose either though.

Aside from Zs, what else takes your money?
This is a good question. I would have to say kids, just like a lot of people on here. I have a 6 year old boy and a brand new baby girl (Nov. 8). Aside from that i would have to say tools ( i work on cars for a living ), and my bass fishing habit.

Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
People definately notice the Z when i drive it. I always get a thumbs up or a head nod. There aren't very many S30's around here (maybe 4 or 5 that I have seen), but there are a few ZX's and all of those guys appreciate the Z. The only thing I've noticed is a lot of people call it a 240Z or ZX. But without the bumpers I guess it could be mistaken for a 240.

Anime!!!
I'm surprised no one said Wangan Midnight. It doesn't come on here in the states but you can see it online in a few different places. I've seen a couple of avatars on this site from the manga I believe. For those who don't know its the one with the infamous "Devil Z". I think its been mentioned here before.

Z Stolen this Morning in LA County, CA
man that really sucks, I guess I should stop leaving the keys in mine. I didn't think anyone would steal a Z, they stand out to much. Its not exactly like stealing a beige civic. I guess Its a respect thing, a true Z person would never steal a Z. Just like where I work, a real tech would never steal another techs' tools.

How many of us have young children?
I've got one boy, Zack. who turns 6 in December, and one girl on the way due November 15. Much like 240znz said Zack thinks the Z is the coolest car ever. But since he goes to the racetrack with me almost every weekend he knows its not the fastest:geek:

Do It In A Datsun
not really in, but on....

so if you could do ANYTHING to your Z...
gotta agree with sailor bob here. RB engine would definately make the ultimate Z in my opinion.

My first car and z, '73 240z.
sorry exdamyankee, but thats all I ever heard when I had mine. No hard feelings. I've got a wife and kid now and kind of wish I still had a 2+2. or maybe one for the wife to drive :-)

Ever swap in your Z car?
The only car I could think of would be a Skyline, especially an old one. The fact that we cant buy them in the states makes them all the more desirable. P.S. I love that ozzy guys answer, would be even cooler with an RB26DETT.

Tuning with the LM-1
Hello again. Just thought I'd fill you in on my new toy. I've been tuning our drag race truck (holley stealthram injected 355)http://www.stealthram.com/phpBB2/garage.php?mode=view_vehicle&CID=21 the hard way for a while now. Make a pass, change something, go over timeslip, read plugs, repeat.... Well a couple of weeks ago I bought the LM-1 wideband controller from Innovate Motorsports. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/ This thing is great, not only can i see real time AFR readings but it also datalogs up to 5 channels and interfaces with the laptop to save and compare all of our passes. Anyway the point of this is we had a slow day in the shop last week and I put it on the Z (77 280). I knew the car ran rich because of the smell and black smoke, but I was surprised to see it idling at an extremely rich 10.9 : 1. The airflow meter is pretty new, and I have already done the usual (coolant sensor connectors, fuel pressure reg., tune-up parts) but I didn't realize the meter had to be adjusted. Anyone else had this problem? If so how do people normally tune their Z's? I've had 3 and they all seemed to run a little rich. After getting the car up to temp and watching the LM-1 I soon had the car leaned out to 14.0 : 1. What a difference, it idles smoother, responds quicker, and doesn't choke you out while driving. And it pulls to a nice 12.6 : 1 under full load. If anyone is near the Isle of Wight/ Newport News area I'd love to try it on another Z.

My first car and z, '73 240z.
nice car!, my first car was a Z also. A 75 280z 2+2. Yeah I know the 2+2's are hideous, but I wanted a Z. Anyway mine wasn't nearly that nice and broke down on me the first night I drove it, but I loved that car anyway. I'm only 25 now and have had 4 Z's and counting. Good luck, and again nice Z.

Z Ink (Look what I did!!!!)
hey thanks for the translations guys. I didn't know if it translated exactly to "love the Z" either, but its from one of the Hot Version DVD's, I believe #86. Anyway type in love the Z in google and you'll see an ad for the DVD. Thanks again.

Z Ink (Look what I did!!!!)
I've been itching for some more ink myself lately. The one I've been wanting for a while says "Love the Z" in japanese. I saw it on one of the Wangan Midnight websites. I found a picture, but i would do it with a little different color and a more "traditional" looking Z.

New Hot Wheels 240Z
I too am late with this thread, but I was standing in line at wal-mart looking around at all the "impulse buy" stuff near the register, and saw the yellow one lying on the back of a shelf like someone picked it up and changed their mind. Naturally I bought it but never went back to see if they had any different ones.
