  1. Hi All, As some of you may know I purchased my Z off ebay about a week ago. I really did not get a chance to see the car before paying for it, but I did my research talked in length with the seller and I had the car checked out. Well I receieved the car today and I must say I was blown away! The car was even better than the seller had advertised! The seller said the car was rust free and after having the chance to check the car very carefully (for over and hour with my mechanic) no rust was found anywhere. We even removed the windshield wipers and the cowl and not a spec of rust I drove the car on the freeway for about 70 miles roundtrip and the everything performed better than expected! The car is a 1970 low number car that has the original engine and auto tranny (which I plan to convert to a 4spd.) The paint job is decent but is a shade lighter than the original. The paint is not an issue since I had plans to repaint it anyway. I took it to Pierre's Z center and the owner was amazed with the car. We took a magnet to the body and was delighted to find out that all the original sheetmetal appears to be free of bondo or fillers! The mechanic stated that he's been in the business for over 30 years and feels that the car was one of the finer examples he's seen. He was so impressed that he called two of his mechanics out of the shop to look at the car. The mechanic also commented that the slotted mags on the car are the originals that were put on the car back in 1970 and not reproductions. I'm very thankful that I got a clean car that has its original sheetmetal, engine, tranny, wheels and original CA license plates! The things that I have found so far that do not work on the car are the horn, clock (no surprise there), flashers, interior roof light, antennae, fuel gauge and radio. Oh yeah, the AC works but will need further inspection to find out why it does not get cold. Also, the dash has a few cracks so I will need to find a new dash.
  2. Why are so many swapping out the auto tranny for a 4speed?
  3. Wow, Great feedback and great story from vtdds71. I am not too worried about the value of my Z since I purchased it for the fun of having one. I had one right out of High School and had to sell it to afford college. After restoring and purchasing well over 230 cars I had to uncurable itch to have another Z.
  4. A1. 7- 8 years ago. A2. I was comparing unmolested and fully restored cars. A3. End of auction. A4. First Gen 69-72.
  5. I just recently got back into Zs and noticed that they are not as big as they were a few years back when the desirable and the nice ones were grabbing big $$$. Now there seem to be plenty of them on ebay for less than $2000. Just had to ask what the folks on this board thought.
  6. Thanks all. I will give the shops a call. Arne, I would say that I am mechanically inclined. However, due to my work load and travel between states, doing it myself it out of the question at this time :disappoin
  7. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to shop around the idea of swapping my auto trans for a 4spd.
  8. That's funny, it states that the ad has been removed by author when I click it :disappoin
  9. Link does not work.
  10. Man you guys are great with the feedback I am not planning on restoring to full concorse but wanted to keep the car somewhat original. Also, I was told that there were less than 300 automatics produced during the first generations so maybe I should leave the automatic in... dunno what to do.
  11. Thanks! The title states that it is a 1970! I also found out that it is a matching number car... the bummer is that it is an automatic
  12. Thanks for responding. I was hoping that it was truly a 1970 and not a 1971 By the way, where did you get the spoiler in your avatar?
  13. Hi all, I would appreciate if someone could tell me the build date of a Z car that has HLS30 09603 for a vin number. Also, would this be considered an early car?

I'm in California (Torrance and Palm Springs) and most of what I am finding out here is molested expensive junk. I am looking for something original with low miles. I am not looking to restore or show the car. I just want to have a fun classic Z to drive around now and then

SBlake01, Thanks for your response. I guess I should clarify my question. I wanted to know if all models sold met the emission requirements. The car was originally purchased in CT and I wanted to know if purchased there would it meet the requirements.

Hi All, I've been lurking on this board for a few months now and I am ready to take the plunge and pick up a 240 0r 280. I am looking at a 78 280Z that seems to be in good condition. The car is 5000 miles away so I will have to get a certified inspector/appraisor to check it out for me. The seller states that the car has less than 40,000 original miles. I'm hard pressed to believe that is true but after looking at the pictures he provided it may be true. I have two questions that I would like to see if you guys can help me with. 1. What should I expect to pay for a clean unmolested 280Z? 2. Does anyone know if the 78 model met the 50 state standard for emissions? Thank you for any help you can provide.
