Unofficial description... Private collection is a group of cars owned by an individual enthusiast who keeps them for his own enjoyment. 'Public collection' aka museum. A place where anyone could go to see a collection of cars and presumably pay an admission fee to do so.

No bingo :sleepy: 3710 on brake and, like most others, no markings on the clutch pedal.

...and he seems to be a very nice bloke. I've asked him if he can spare any pictures he has of the green car and he kindly offered to mail them to me. I also asked him about Nissan (he used to work for them) sales records and he said that he doubted the data they have would extend back to the early '70s...shame. I'd really like to know when and where my car was first sold in Victoria. Vicroads, the local authority, have been most unhelpful - stating that privacy laws prevent them from releasing the information. The implication is, therefore, that they do have the info - they just can't let it go. For a fee they will happily tell me how many owners the car has had (whoopee! ) which I found out for free from the PO! Anyway, I'm glad that nice original 240Zs are going for such high $ in Australia...especially no that I have one:D

You didn't happen to get his email address did you? Did he work for Nissan?

Very nice, but is that a Datsun colour?

No, but I might contact the owner and see if he can let me have a set of photos. That car would appear to make good yardstick for my restoration...

Just wanted to get this down for for future reference. When I 1st picked up my new Z it was, quite frankly, a horror to drive at over 70km/h. The steering vibration was terrible and got progressively worse until at about 100km/h my vision almost became blurred! Under braking, things were bad too. So, what to do? First stop was the local tyre specialist for a wheel alignment and balance. The mechanic there did his best but noted that one front rim had a 'centre buckle'. He told me that as the rim was steel it could not be repaired. Disheartened, I shopped around for a replacement and predictably found nothing that would match the other three wheels (these were period '70s chromed steel wheels). Already my wallet was cringing at the thought of the likely $1200+ spend for new wheels and tyres. At a 2nd hand wheel dealer I was given tha name of a rim repairer who would tackle steel wheels. For $44 he straightened the rim and rebalanced it with the old tyre. My steering vibration was 75% cured by fixing the rim. At this point I recalled that the PO had told me that the car had been largely unused for nearly 2 years before I came along... could the tyres be out of round, I thought? To cut a long story not much shorter, I had new fron tyres put on yesterday and hey presto!, the car is an absolute pleasure to drive - at any speed! The rim repair company is Alliance Wheel Repairs in Northbridge, Perth.

That just over $13k in USD (wait a few months and it'll be less!)

That reminds me of the mean trick my brother and I pulled on our little brother... We asked him to hold the metal end of the lawnmower plug lead and said that it was important to hold it tight... We then gave the starter cord a tremendous heave. I feel guilty at the memory now that I have young children of my own..but I can still see his little arm pumping with the shocks he recieved! Of course he ran bawling to Mum and we copped a right pasting over that....ahhh memories :devious:

You're right... I should add "don't hold the plug, hold the lead"
  14. halz replied to flyfish's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Better still, remove the sparkplug, connect it to its lead and earth it on the head/block while the engine is being cranked. ...better to know if the plug itself is sparking rather than just the lead.

I believe there is at least one (103479) in existence in Queensland. Interestingly, its the same colour green/tan as mine...maybe they were made in batches.

I have the only Metallic Green '73 240Z with worn steering rack, original engine, tatty carpets and rusty drivers door in my suburb (and probably the next suburb as well!). Remember that 'low numbered' cars are really low-numbered for their chassis type. Eg. I think 26th-Z (that IS low!) is actually 26th-HLS30..! What about high numbered cars? I have HS30-103477 and sjcurtis, who recently began documenting chassis numbers of RHD cars, commented that there were only a couple that were younger in Australia...

Alan, It a real shame that there are people like that out there. Although I've never had an experience like yours (which I think qualifies as 'road-rage') I know that from the point of view of insurance, such events never come out in your favour unless you have a witness. Twice our family car was backed into in shopping centre carparks by 'older' drivers. The first time, my wife was unable to locate a witness and despite both parties being insured by the same company, the type of damage indicating that our car must have been sationary at the time of the bump AND the fact that the other party kept changing his story... the company would not attribute fault to either party. End result: we make a claim, our premuim goes up. Same probably happened to the other guy if he made a claim so the winner out of this is the insurance company. In the second bump I was in the car when a little old lady tapped our car with hers (2 weeks after getting it back from the 1st repair and in exactly the same spot!). I leaped out of the car and grabbed hold of a nearby shopping trolley-pushing 16 Y.o. and asked him if he saw what happened. He became our witness and everything was resolved in our favour. So... My advice is to think "witness" in these situations. On the other hand, if you have a friend in the force he might be able to query the license details of the Landrover and you could pay his tyres a late night visit with with a long sharp knife... Hayden.

Kats, I notice that the Options page for the Fairlady-Z includes a "Racing Stripe". Can you (or Alan) tell us what the racing stripe looks like? Was is positioned on the vertical or horizontal surfaces of the car? Did the stripe colour vary with the body colour? I am keen to know about these sorts of factory options! Hayden.

Nick, I'm sooo jealous! I uased to go to the speed trial religously and I really miss them. My little brother was there and he called me up to share some noise via his mobile phone! Good to see that the Healy-snobs are finally allowing Japanese machinery into the trials too. I hear there was also an RX-2... Hayden
