350Z finally in Oz
Two things: volume and tax. Our market in Australia is smaller than the U.S so high-end sports cars are usually regarded as low volume units and therefore low return on investment for an importer. 2nd thing is tax, The Australian government is merciless on cars deemed as 'luxury' which turn out to be cars over $50k. When you hit the $50k price, the import tarif jumps by a disproportinate percentage. So, yes we cop it all ways and most of us end up living vicariously through our Amrican cousins who live in the land of cheap cars and even cheaper fuel...

Bought a 240z today, Perth WA.
Welcome ecash! Just when I think all of the Perth guys have bought their Zs and the market is mine... you bob up! It would be worth knocking on his door (the Ocean Reef guy) to see if he wants to sell... you never know - especially if the cars appear to be in good condition.

Cloth seat inserts
...interesting... I'll have a look at this car and see if it has an original 'feel' about it.

Cloth seat inserts
Did 240Zs only ever come with vinyl seats? Was there an optional cloth insert in vinyl? A guy selling a car in Australia claims that he has 'original' seats in his 240z but they have cloth inserts...

OK here's the scoop. Spoke to the guy. The car has a L26 but thats about the worst of it. Interior sounds very good but with cloth inserts in the seats (non orig seats?). No cracks in the dash. Very little rust (minor spot in the hatch). The suspension has been replaced with stiffer springs and nolathane bushes. Colour is silver (orig colour)and the paint is 2 years old. He probably has the original owners manual but is unsure about toolkit. I cannot see the car this weekend but I'd like too at some stage. For me, the big drawback is the engine. He apparently replaced it himself (d'oh, why choose an L26?), originally it had an RB-somethingorother. If either of you guys see it (Mr. C, W.A.Zed), drop me a pm please...:classic:

Morimoto 432
Wow. The engine actually seems to take up less space than an L24 unit. Perhaps thats because the Carburettors and air cleaner are not obstructing the view of the exhaust..?

Datsuns in classic sprints next Sunday
Guys (esp Perth guys), the Classic quater mile sprints being held at the Sandalford winery in the Swan Valley this weekend will feature a few Zs amongst the assorted interesting cars. There will also be a "1972 Datsun Skyline GT-R". I will try to take a few pics and post them on the site. In the meantime, have a look at this: http://www.classicrally.com.au/classic_quarter_mile_sprint.htm

Someone from Australia...HELP
Take him back? Geez, he may be an Aussie but you guys had him 1st. He's only appeared in the last year or so downunder...(or have I missed him by watching too much of the Wiggles, B1 and B2, Simpsons, Southpark, etc, etc.?)

Moral Dilema
Hmmm. Chris you can always walk away, there will be other cars. In future (or maybe even now) say that you'd like to have another look at the car and take some cash with you. Make him an offer - a low one and say that you can pay half now in cash and half when you collect the car. The sight of a few thousand in your hand will usually be enough to have him close the deal then and there. Ask him if cash is OK - it always is! ...The point is, always negotiate a deal in person if you can. By the way, at the time of your visit, you will be keenly interested in another car (doesn't have to be Z) and its between him and the other unknown (an non-exisant vehicle). You would prefer to buy his car, even though its more expensive but gee, if he won't take your offer you'll just have to give the other guy a call right now... Another point, try to get in touch with the other buyer (if he really exists) and offer him $250 to withdraw his interest in 'your' car. then you'll know the field is clear. Just my two bobs worth...

ZZZ 240 plates in Perth
You guessed! Did you stick a note under his window? The sad fact is that there may be a rare few 240Z owners who are (a) not enthusiasts and ( not hooked up to the internet... Why do I never see them anyway...?
