1978 Datsun 280z Nearly Restored - PURPLE
Up for sale is a 1978 Datusn 280z, 5 speed that I have been restoring for the past 10 years with my brother and father. She is located in CT and is over 95% complete. She just needs a few things to get her in full working order. She runs great and is ready for the road. Unfortunately, I do not have the time or space to complete her as life events have changed. Original body has 94,000 miles before restoration. Here is a list of items completed: Rebuilt Engine by Carlquist with only a few hundred miles New exhaust, including manifold EFI to Carb conversion, Carbs restored by Vinny Bedini New tires with used slotted mag wheels New shocks, struts, bearing, bushings Rust repair on fenders, wheel wells, etc New Clutch New windshield glass Removed Engine bay zbart and painted New Battery and alternator Insulation under carpet, new rear deck carpet New Radiator New speakers Items left to complete: Washer hose Vacuum tank for air vents Replace tire valves, didn't get replaced with new tires and they leak a little air Brackets for 240z bumper cover that is to replace old rusty 280z one. Radio connection, original one works but cuts in and out on occasion A few nics in the paint, could use a touch up and buff I had a second 280z and still have a ton of extra parts from that vehicle. All parts come with car and include: 4 speed, windows, dashboard, nuts/bolts, and much more! Photos are not uploading, so please see links. More photos coming soon. http://tinyurl.com/hnbjh9t http://tinyurl.com/gvsem86 All reasonable offers considered.

Seat Recovering
http://www.por15.com/ I have used their system for restoring parts on my Z and I am very pleased with the results. I recommend purchasing Marine Clean and Metal Ready as well. They have a starter kit if you are doing a small area. A lot goes a long way.

Took some photos of the lime 72
The texture of the parking garage makes the Z look that much sharper - nice job!!

Getting ready to paint engine bay
That is a NICE color!! It will go well with the Shift and Brake boots I made out of a deep plum vinyl. I'll have to see a paint chip in person though.

Getting ready to paint engine bay
Hey guys... it's been quite a while since I've been on here, I took some time off and now I am ready to start the next phase of my project which is painting the engine bay, inside of doors and underside of hood. I am not sure if its a good idea to paint the interior sections before I start the the exterior body work. All this (as is everything about the Z car) is new to me. I want the engine bay etc. to be the same color as the exterior of the car and since I am not painting everything at once I am wondering if these are appropriate steps. Also, I am going to paint my car PURPLE But I don't want Barney Purple. I am looking for a Deep Indigo Purple if anyone has any suggestions. I don't care what anyone else thinks - its my favorite color and I can do whatever I want to my Z Thanks! Alissa.

Putting L26 into my 280
what about hooking up the tach? is the tach signal the same for the FI wiring and the older ignition?

Putting L26 into my 280
I'll be running the stock carbs on the L26. I am going to be running MegaSquirt FI on my L28 eventually.

Putting L26 into my 280
hey gang... I am getting an L26 with a 4-Speed that runs good. I will be dropping it into my 280 to get it up and running quickly while I save $ to rebuild my L28 the way I want it. I don't know much about the differences between these engines except the obvious. Can anyone tell me what issues I may need to deal with when I install?

HAHA, My friend Pete has a screen name: vettekilla240z. This reminded me of it. (I hope he doesn't mind that I just gave his SN away!)

finally some decent pics of the Z
What paint did you use to black out all your crome? I plan on doing the same to my Z.

240z Dash Swap
Ok, the guy changed his mind! He found a whole parts car instead. Which is fine with me. I'll be parting out my dash and console if any are interested!

240z Dash Swap
I am ready to say screw it. He's some yuppy corvette guy who is paying for his college son's project!! But he did make me a great offer for all those parts. I just want them out of my already cluttered basement.

240z Dash Swap
I have a guy (local to me) who is interested in purchasing my complete dash and console out of my '78 280z parts car to put into his '73 240z. Steering column, all brackets, harnesses, everthing! He says he knows the wiring is 100x more complicated, but he wants to do it anyway. What issues are there for doing this swap? I don't want the guy coming back to me and complaining that the dash won't fit!

A/C Unit removal
Thanks for the offer though!! I'll keep you guys posted on how I go about my freon removal.

A/C Unit removal
This is a parts car that doesn't run, nor has the capability to be moved currently. I may try and get someone from an A/C shop to come to my house and do it for me or perhaps borrow equipment. I don't know anyone personally, but I may bribe someone.... as bloxman PMed me "Maybe somebody would come and empty the system for a case o beer!?"

A/C Unit removal
I need to remove my A/C unit out of my parts car and I am not sure how to begin. It still has compression and freon left in it. I've got my manual, but don't have the necessary equipment to remove the freon. Are there any other options? I want to be legal here.

What is the worst part of this club
I am on here just about every day, but don't have much to post...yet. Lots of good people here, but occasionally I would like to wack someone on the back of the head.

Just saying hello
Yes, please do tell us about yourself and your Z.

1st time poster with a questions
There are far too few Z people in CT. I was lucky to find 2 Z's in my area, one for $650 and the other for $250. But they are in no way rust free. The interiors generally stay in good shape though.

Is there a name for this??
