1st time poster with a questions
There are far too few Z people in CT. I was lucky to find 2 Z's in my area, one for $650 and the other for $250. But they are in no way rust free. The interiors generally stay in good shape though.

Whats in you "Emergency Toolkit"?
Does anyone have there original tire change tool kit all intact? I do, and my tire chocks and nuts are still in their original sealed package. I also have the Tire Inflator Canister, still full! And of course the space saver spare and jack. I do plan on getting a mechanics tool set for when my Z is finally on the road, but it's good to know what others stash under there deck lid so I can be prepared.

Previous-Owner Dumbassery...
HAHA, yeah you are right. My bf and I are going to do our best to repair it the proper way. With both cars, the silver and the red parts car I think we can do it plus a few replacement parts. We knew we weren't going to be using the rear panels, but we did want to see how far the damage was. there is some slight rippling on the back floor also which worries me. Whatever the case is, I plan to fix it right... not with 1/4" thick bondo.

Camara tricks
That's a great pic Sulio! I know some photoshop tricks myself, but don't have any car pics to play with. Any volunteers?

A cool idea....
The late 280z seats are VERY permeable... not sure about others. Air would blow right through them if you cut holes in the foam. Not to mention ventilation for the rear end of you boys! Maybe practical to run some tube under the carpet up through the seats. You would just have to have the vents on the same time you wanted seat air. Or you could just use a hose clamp to disable it.

Previous-Owner Dumbassery...
I am not sure if this is a case of POD or just the worst autobody shop on the planet (or perhaps both) but I have spent atleast 6 hours chipping bondo off the rear end panels and tearing off Home Crapo galvanized steel that was used to replace rust of the hatch striker panel. :stupid: They did a hell of a job covering it up though because we didn't notice how bad it really was when we bought the car. I have attached an angry photo of me and a chisel. (and although you can't tell, I am wearing flip flops in the photo)

Questions about A/C on 280z
VIN for car with A/C is HLS30-469222 build date 6/98? VIN for car without A/C is HLS30-427243 build date 9/77 I don't know if that makes a difference.... the A/C is coming out anyway.

Welp... got reallllyy bored.. cleaned the car and took some pics...
Very nice. Is that red or orange? Or perharps an orangey red? Each pic makes the color look a little different.

Questions about A/C on 280z
I guess A/C wasn't as rare as an option as I expected. I am fairly sure my parts car had factory installed A/C. The car will be worth more if I kept the air in it, but the car is a parts car because it has no title, no key and lots of rust... it is going to be chopped up. I've got the service manual, I am sure it will tell me the best way to disassemble the A/C.

Questions about A/C on 280z
My silver Z and my red Z (parts car) are almost identical except the red has A/C and a 4 spd tranny. I am not going to transfer the A/C into the silver car because I rarely use A/C as it is and it would be too much of a hassle to install. How rare was the A/C option on '78 280z's? What do I need to be aware of when uninstalling it from the car? Is the wiring harness only compatible with A/C cars? I'll probably end up selling it as a complete unit once I figure out which parts belong to it. Is this worth anything? You can have it cheap if you come take it out of the car yourself! ~Thanks

Looking for opinions
Hi Jim, If money is not a factor, rebuild the original engine and do some modifications to 'beef' it up. I don't think it would be that expensive depending on what upgrades you do. There are many options to give it more power. If thats what you are leaning toward... go for it.

Hey! Guess what happened to me today?
Did you totally freak out when you saw your beloved Z under all those leaves and branches -- before you found out she only had a few scratches?
-
Just picked up my 2nd '78 280z
I suppose you are right. I am still trying to decide which parts I should keep as spares.... just in case. Not worth letting parts go for cheap if they are small enough to store in my basement.

Warning! - WIAT can strike you
Are there any other females on here regularly who have the diZease? On a rare instance, my boyfriend said to me recently "Once your car is at your house, you're going to spend more time with it then with me." I replied "Yeah, probably!" My silver car is in his garage right now, and I have to push him to work on it with me.... mostly because i am still a novice or need some man muscle to lift heavy parts or loosen some bolts. (at 108 lbs, i don't have much behind me) I am trying to do most of the work myself. But just got my second Z (red) two days ago (YAY!) and it is at my house... time to go disassemble!
