Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
Couldn't sleep last night, s as a result, as of this am, the marker lights all work(guy had wrong bulbs) the fuel guage works (sending unit had been re wired...and the ends were just twisted together, access panel is awesome) Radio works, parking brake light works ( dude could not wire anything I guess) Tomarrow night Err tonight I guess..trim and badges.

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
got the heater working. Someone will have the technical term here, But I'll say it was the vac line going to the top of the white canister on the passenger side under the hood. Had a big ole split in it. Replaced it, and it works like new. Now on to the running lights! Thanks again to all. I wanted to post what I found, because many who ask for help seem to never offer feedback for those who might search the same problem later. And, that's just rude.

Man that would be outstanding..write what I owe..how to get it to you etc. Jagnew3@sbcglobal.net Thanks, I look a bunch today, and every lead turns into a lead..it close to a wild goose chase. Everyone wants to talk Z when they hear what I'm looking for.

Thanks..nice ride! I knew it had to have a threaded sleeve, with a nut on top, but wasnt sure if it would be domed or not. I wonder if that will be a tough one to come up with..better get yard hopping . I looked at your gallery..nice stuff. I too keep a computer in the garage, it helps when all your sea doo stuff in on cd rom. I even keep an old printer out there.

sblake...the car you are showing (blue) is the same color as mine. Does it have a name (the color..besides blue..) also..when ever I have worked on old cars in the past, the stainless trim screws usually have a sticky gum like product coating them..anyone know what that is? I assume it's to seal around the sheet metal, and maybe to help with vibration (backing out) etc...

Electrical tip for sure..Before I tried to even start it, I cleaned all the inj system connections, easy to do..and avoids problems later. The antenna ("drive cable") plastic inner cable is broke. The stub that is left goes up in and out..no problem.

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
I'm having a blast with it. I'll have a full day Saturday to dig in to some of the problems, Then I'm taking it down to a local parking lot to burn some fuel (big Big empty lot) Should I hear a shhhh noise when switching between ac/ heat/ vent? Cause, I hear no change when I move that lever. I do know that is opens and closes what I believe is the defrost door. So far this week I have 1.) replaced the fuel filter (with a proper one) 2.) replaced the thermostat (180 deg) 3.) Installed the side marker lights 4.) temp. install the dr side mirror (that was a fun bolt to get to) 5.) change the oil 6.) air filter change 7.) installed front turn signals (rear turn signals) and lic plate lights 8.) new plugs 9.)pcv valve 10.) and reinstalled the rear window louver tonight I'm going over all the vacume lines. I have rolls of diff. dia line, and a kit filled with various t's and y's in various sizes..might as well start fresh. I need to find a good bone yard close to here, and start searching. My theory of working on stuff..get it to run..then spend money on other things. I build Rotax sea doo engines on the side..so I'm no slouch..I've built Volvo bb70 inboards (1963), and built go kart engines for years. And I have even played with cars...the electirical stuuf is my weak point on cars, and this having a computer, is a bit strange for me. Plus the cars I have worked on in the past were older, and American..so this is a bit of a challenge. You, and searching the site have been a great help..any other hints are more then welcome. Thanks John

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
Okay, I didn't give much background on the car yet, and now that I've had a few days to play with it running here is a laundry list of what's not working. Mind you I haven't spent a lot of time fixing..just diagnosing...and now airing the laundry. I picked up the car for $500..it has new paint, and tires. The guy never put the chrome back on, or the mirror, hood vents, door locks..side markers etc... and you already know it would not start for him. He did a good job painting..not great..but good. The floor is good..frame is good . Back seat good, fornt seat bottoms are rough. Carpet is good, but needs dyed. headliner looks good, but is saggy. side mirror base plastic and power antenna..broke so that's cosmetic stuff. So far I know the following do not work: 1.) side marker lights (all the other lights work 2.) the heater hoses get nice and warm..the air does not (blows like you wouldn't believe) 3.)speedometer( does twitch like it wants to work, but won't) 4.)clock(geeze what do I want for $500?) 5.)fuel guage (sems to move up to empty from below empty when powered) that is pretty much all I could find broken or not functioning. Brakes..while surface rusted are about new. Even the under hood work light works.

I'm amazed at how easy to find, many of the sensors, filters, etc really are. What are some of the harder to find things?

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
I feel real lucky , I really expected a bunck of work to get it to even start, much less run decent. I'm not getting much in the element since I cleaned it..but the smell of old gas is always in the air.

Yes the next step for me is to run a line from the metel filter to outside the garage to my "lawn mower fuel storage tank" It's the tank that all the fuel from old sea doo tanks, boat tanks andcar tanks goes. It's a 50 gal. farm tank. It seems my lawn mower will burn about anything as long as is is free of particles. It's way too old to but back in the car tank. Then I will work on the sending unit (not functioning) then I will fill the tank with good stuff, install a new filter etc. My objective of yesterday was only to get it to start, and run. I didn't even know if it would run when I picked it up. Now I do and I can move on in a more proper way.. More then anything I wanted to share my joy with you guys, because some of the directions you pointed me in were spot on. Also thanks for the heads up on the glass filter

yes for sure on the seals. This filter and element combo is rated for about 20 max. It was never intended to be used more to start the car, and view the garbage that was going through. Definatly a lot more garbage then I wanted to see, but I did want to see what I had.. I removed the element tonight, and besides bad gas, there is a lot of gunk in the system. The steel one goes back on tomarrow..btw the car sat in the cold for 24 hrs, and fired up right away..pretty cool.

Thanks man, yes I'm not gonna run down the road with it. I just wanted to see what was going through there as I got her to start. I will be switching back..just using it as a temp. monitor.

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
It lives! This morning I picked it up from the guys place..trailered it to the house, put 11 gal. of new gas in (that topped the tank) (anyone know how many gallons it will hold?) I added a bottle of injector cleaner, cleaned the connections related to fuel injection, put on a new glass inline fuel filter, and a new battery. cranked...cranked...cranked, and she started..ran rough, and smelled like nasty gas, stalled was hard to start, ran rough..after about 20 min it started running pretty good (still smells like bad gas) and the filter definatly is getting junky. So I put it in gear..and drove it off the trailer, and into the garage. (I did all this in 38 deg and 40mph wind gusts) I never had to use starting fluid. I started cleaning it, and about an hour later..she fired right back up (unheated garage) Thanks for all the suggestions. I did a lot of reading this week, and it paid off.

haven't had a ton of time to check a bunch yet, i'm building a 657 sea doo engine, and then I can move on and spend some time going through the troubleshooting book. I'm just trying to get a feel for the most likely culprits. I'll hit those first then move on.

Hello from Indianapolis, In.
Thanks for your service Ken. I was at Atterbury, as a private contrctor when Shack and awe was being rolled into place. Atterbury is still a training post, tanks, air craft, high power rifle range, etc.. It is used in the war as logistics depot. The Men I was working with were about to leave for Iraq. One guy and I became friends, and we were talking one day. He said he and his wife were waiting until he came home to start a family. Before I left I gave him a picture of my baby boy and told him my son was his too, please carry him with you, and know we appreciate your sacrifice...He's back there for the second time now, but doing well.

thanks, strange, but folks on my sea doo board, gave ne a diff. link, but the same book. those guys tinker with everything. I haven't tried much yet, I just got it, but wanted a direction to start.I do have a service manual, and It will be well read. thanks again, I will report back
