  1. Hey y'all. Sorry, I don't know much about forum ettiquette as this is the first one I've joined. The guy said that everything under the hood was perfect, but after driving it for a week, I'm seeing that the carb intakes are leaking gas and the gaskets leading into the engine are wet with gas as well. I'm kind of a novice (at the Forum thing as well as owning a datsun/working on my car) so any pointers would be appreciated! I really want to do the car justice! - Josh Info: Original Engine - 90k miles Idle - 1500, sometimes dips down to lower 1000s Anything else that's relevant?
  2. I've got a 75 280z that is in incredible condition, with the exception of the fuel tank. I was filling it up at a gas station amidst a road trip when I heard a noise, looked under the back and saw the gas trickling out in a steady stream. I am very vigilant when it comes to checking under the car for leaks of any kind (I had a break fluid leak for a bit that I repaired, but ever cautious now) - so this thing apparently had started to rust through, and at that moment, it rusted through enough around the nipples to cause a leak. I've been stranded in Greenfield, MA for over a week. The repair guys said this is not a patchable job, and that they could not locate a tank. So, for 24 hours I searched and found what seemed to be the right one on ebay, had it shipped, it arrived a few days ago, and the repair guys realized today that it is not the right one. The Z Car Source guys in Phoenix refuse to sell me a reconditioned one because they don't want my rusted one as the exchange. I'm stuck here trying to find a solution, making hundreds of calls and searching the web, with no luck. I am willing to have this thing shipped from anywhere within the US - does ANYONE have any suggestions for places to look, or perhaps people they know that might have one? Thanks so much!!
  3. Hello everyone, Z newbie here again requesting help. I got my Z running again although it was running very, very poorly. I bought it back in December and it had been sitting since '03. The previous owner said there was old gas in the tank and so I drained it, filled it back up and after changing everything from the plugs to all the 'pumps' in the engine bay, I ran it for a while. I recently changed my fuel filter because my Z was not running, seeming to be starved of fuel (delayed response when stepping on gas, 'choking' and jerking when I floor it.) Anywho... I was very surprised (not in a good way) when I removed the fuel filter I put back in December, when I noticed it weighed about a quarter pound. Inside there is all this build up of gunk or something. It is brown and it almost looks like modeling clay, although it is soft like a paste, probably because it was mixing with the fuel. I know I need to clean out my tank, but I was wonder if: 1. Anyone knows what this gunk side is? and 2. If it would be an easy DIY to clean out the tank? Thanks in advance for all of your help!
  4. Does anyone know if it is hard to remove a gas tank in order to clean it? I found build up (of old gas, I assume) in my fuel filter as my car seems to be starved of fuel. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!
  5. I've got: 1. New Cold Start injector 2. New Plugs/wire 3. New Vacumm hoses all round 4. New Fuel Injectors, new wiring harness/pigtails I'm only getting 11 MPG -tail pipe is black and I can smell gas/fumes while I drive. Thanks for any tips to check next
  6. I have two questions that you guys no doubt can help me with: Car: 1972 240Z 1. How does the wiring harness get routed inside the the car on the passenger side ? Is it routed through the rocker ? The car has been gutted except for the dash. I am looking for strategy for co-existence with the sound deadener. 2. Does anybody have experience with the Gas Tank sending unit electrical connectors ? The 240 has a T shaped connect post on the sending unit. The rubber around the connector is old an stiff. How do you get the connector re-attached to the sending unit ? Thanks, Jay Not just a Z - zdisease
  7. I need to replace the gas lines on my 72 240Z. Can anybody tell me what to buy for: Gas Supply: Gas Return: Fuel Guide Valve Line: Thanks, zdisease
