Hello Z peep holes, I am getting around to putting the interior together on one of them Z cars from Janyouharry of 1970, I was wondering what kind of carpet snaps the OE firewall insulator was equipped with. I have two styles that virtually fell off some of the pieces that I had here, and that @grannyknot supplied from his 1971??? orange car for the purpose of comparing and recreating of some fresh insulation. The ones that came off @grannyknot's pieces look to be a kind of "pyramid" shape with a masonite board circle behind them, and a countersunk screw in the center that has a nut behind the masonite circle on the back. Looks to be an M6 countersunk philips screw. Probably 15mm in length. They seem to match the ones from #7214 that I have here, but haven't removed from there. That car is a '71. The other ones I have that came off this car are some generic style ones that have 3 little tangs that fold over on the triangular back side and are staked into place. I put quite some effort into recreating the original firewall padding, so if I can use the correct carpet snaps, I'll go that route before gluing it to the firewall.

I just trailered home a 1978 black pearl 280Z that was bought new by my cousin. She drove it for 20 years and took fantastic care of it but it's still a 40 yr old car and the carpet is really badly faded. It also has that 'old car smell' that I'd like to address as well. When I brought it home I thought the carpet was tan/light brown it's faded so much but it looks like it was originally black. On the one hand, a black car with an all-black interior is kind of 'blah' but that was the original color... any reason not to change it to grey or something lighter? Who are the best/preferred carpet sellers for these cars? i'd like it to fit nicely and not require a lot of trimming and fitting if at all possible....am I asking for too much? I'll be posting a lot pretty soon as I've got a few key things to deal with on the car, i'm doing searches here but I know info changes over time. Thanks for any assistance you can provide, Keith

A few weeks ago I purchased a sewn-molded carpet kit from MSA, but several of the pieces did not fit and a few were actually shipped by the manufacturer as uncut, un-sewn, and un-bound flat pieces of carpet. Communication with MSA has been, ummm, slow, and after two weeks of emails and phone calls I'm not getting much traction. Does anyone have a better source for these? I'd prefer not to keep experimenting $300 at a time.

I found a box in the pile-o-stuff with original diamond-pattern vinyl for the resto I'm undertaking, but the carpet I've been given looks pretty bad for a resto car. It would be sub-par for a street car that needs some form of carpet or another, but not ideal for a resto at all. dying it with Rit won't save it, so I'm on the lookout for a 3rd party set... But after looking at 5 different websites, and from my passed experience with my Z31 300zx carpet purchase- I will say that I am weary of just buying any one of the items I've stumbled across. Does anyone make a reproduction item that is as close to early 70's as possible? Or is it even possible to get NOS ones? looking for black carpet.

I have an early 260 and am looking at new carpet for it. I plan to go with the loop pile in a light tan, and replace the vinyl on the tunnel, back wall, and shock towers. I have seen sets in both molded and a sectional version. I would like to get some feedback on what other have used, why you chose the molded or sectional, how each fit, and your thoughts on it once installed. If you have photos to share too, that would be great! I am mostly interested in photos of the molded ones, and the fit on the shock towers. I have seen many photos of the sectional kits installed, but not the molded ones. Thanks!
