  1. it’s not coming from the carb cooling bypass hose. Could be coming from the intake or exhaust manifold though? I don’t have the intake/exhaust torqued down, but would coolant flow through there? Shouldn’t it just be air and fuel? head gasket maybe? That didn’t appear to be wet, but maybe I missed it. any ideas would help. Thanks!
  2. Dear members, Yesterday my dad just bought a Datsun 240z with a 280 motor swap. Today I figured I’d just check under the car for any oil leaks. And sure enough there was a substantial puddle of oil. Right underneath the u joint. Any one an idea what the cause could be of this leak? Some observations we made: tranmission whines a bit (is this normal behavior?), the car jerked a bit yesterday while accelerating but later stopped jerking. car has been restored (in 1998), recently new fluids: transmission, engine & diff. Also so the right floor pan is rather wet and greasy from underneath the car. I hope sincerely someone can help us out in finding what the cause could be of this oil leak. Thank you in advance! Kind regards, Winston BAE3CD68-CBF7-4EEF-AF46-43474CCDC331.MOV
  3. I've had a slow leak for years at the engine/transmission area and hoped it was just an oil pan gasket. After replacing the gasket with a rubber Fel-Pro, it continued to leak near the same place. I pulled the transmission (quite fun by myself) and clutch/flywheel only to find that the rear crank seal was not the source. After cleaning it all and letting it sit overnight, I had a small amount of oil above the pan/gasket, but not a drop from the seal. It looks to have been replaced when the previous owner had the clutch done years ago. After wiping it clean again, I carefully tightened the 3 oil pan bolts just a bit and saw oil ooze out from these two areas: Would replacing the two 'side seals' solve this problem? Should I bother replacing that main seal while its accessible? Bummer I pulled the transmission only to find this out, but it did give me a chance to clean 40 years of gunk off it. I can adjust the parking brake assembly, too.
  4. Hey y'all. Sorry, I don't know much about forum ettiquette as this is the first one I've joined. The guy said that everything under the hood was perfect, but after driving it for a week, I'm seeing that the carb intakes are leaking gas and the gaskets leading into the engine are wet with gas as well. I'm kind of a novice (at the Forum thing as well as owning a datsun/working on my car) so any pointers would be appreciated! I really want to do the car justice! - Josh Info: Original Engine - 90k miles Idle - 1500, sometimes dips down to lower 1000s Anything else that's relevant?
  5. Hi all, I bought a 1975 280Z in January and haven't felt like working on it till now mostly cause it is in good running order. A few months ago after taking it out and coming back i notice a growing pool of coolant underneath the transmission. So the search began, I read the service manual I searched the forums and low and behold I found nothing that was useful. Well I finally used my camera and took a picture of the mystery hose that is pissing away all of the coolant in my car. Can anyone tell me what it is where its coming from and what it should be connected to? Thanks
  6. Hey everyone I have a 260z and the gas tank leaks if I fill it up past half tank. I changed the sending unit and I changed the oring and lock twice but it still leaks! I watched it leak from the unit so I know for a fact It comes from there. Also I capped off all the unnecessary vents. So my question is WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH MY TANK?? And if i do infact need a new tank where might I find one for cheap preferably used as I dont have much cash like the typical college student. anyways HELP PLEASE!
  7. 1971 240 with SU's/header -- Coolant Water mist sprays out between my intake manifold and head -- Weird. A bit of acceleration and it becomes a little geyser. It is betwwen the number 4 exhaust and intake runners and has actually made a hole in my manifold gasket. Could it be a leak inside the intake manifold? There is a water passage there. Please help!!! Thanks!!!
