My tank leaks. Not sure if i will be able to get it fixed or if i have to have one built. History: current tank is aluminum rectangle type custom with no sending unit. whether i fix or build i want sending unit. but from what i have heard the 1970 240z sending is 90-10 ohms. Problems: 1-Tank does not have sender so hence no sender retainer to attach the retaining ring for use with the original sender. 2-cant find a retainer to weld to the tank so that the original sender can be used. 3-Might not have enough room for fuel sender arm and may have to use vertical; tube or uncovered. 4-all aftermarket ones are 0-90 or 70-10 or some other ohms but none are 90-10 and readily available Questions: 1-Does the gauge for the 240z fuel level need a 90-10? 2-Can i use a 0-90 and what would that do since it is reversed the ranges are different? If anyone has answers I sure would appreciate including possible alternatives or where to obtain a 90-10. I need to find out asap to either repair or order custom tank. THanks.....

All: Here are a few photos of my recent gas tank restoration. My tank was a real wreck with severe rust pitting where the mounting straps went. You could see daylight when looking through the filler neck. Try as I might I couldn't find a suitable replacement. That left me no choice but to weld on patches. Welding on a gas tank isn't exactly a good idea so you can imagine I was pretty nervous. To prepare the tank I cleaned it up, rinsed it several times, blew a lot of compressed air through it and then filled it with argon. Everything went well and I didn't blow up. I will be lining the tank prior to installation. Enjoy the pictures!

My '71 240Z is leaking gas from the filler, specifically the actual port. I can fill the tank just fine with no leak to the ground. However, after sitting for a few minutes at home (and I believe even probably while driving) fuel begins to seep between the tank cap collar and the filler neck, sending fuel down the side of the car. Today it was bad enough that a puddle formed. I believe that the cool gas from the pump is heating up and expanding as I drive home. The question is how can this be dealt with? I'm guessing a return line blockage? - The tank was boiled out and cleaned at a radiator shop a few months ago - Rotted hoses from fuel tank to evap tank were replaced - Carbs were cleaned and rebuilt with new valves - Fuel is not leaking from carb bowl overflows - Gas cap is new part from MSA - Fuel pump is warm/hot after car has been running, even with spacer installed The leak has gotten bad enough to bubble and lift pant on the rear quarter panel. Not a huge deal since the car needed new paint even if I decide to restore this one, but it indicates that this is a problem that needs to be fixed. Thanks all!

I've got a 75 280z that is in incredible condition, with the exception of the fuel tank. I was filling it up at a gas station amidst a road trip when I heard a noise, looked under the back and saw the gas trickling out in a steady stream. I am very vigilant when it comes to checking under the car for leaks of any kind (I had a break fluid leak for a bit that I repaired, but ever cautious now) - so this thing apparently had started to rust through, and at that moment, it rusted through enough around the nipples to cause a leak. I've been stranded in Greenfield, MA for over a week. The repair guys said this is not a patchable job, and that they could not locate a tank. So, for 24 hours I searched and found what seemed to be the right one on ebay, had it shipped, it arrived a few days ago, and the repair guys realized today that it is not the right one. The Z Car Source guys in Phoenix refuse to sell me a reconditioned one because they don't want my rusted one as the exchange. I'm stuck here trying to find a solution, making hundreds of calls and searching the web, with no luck. I am willing to have this thing shipped from anywhere within the US - does ANYONE have any suggestions for places to look, or perhaps people they know that might have one? Thanks so much!!

Hello everyone, Z newbie here again requesting help. I got my Z running again although it was running very, very poorly. I bought it back in December and it had been sitting since '03. The previous owner said there was old gas in the tank and so I drained it, filled it back up and after changing everything from the plugs to all the 'pumps' in the engine bay, I ran it for a while. I recently changed my fuel filter because my Z was not running, seeming to be starved of fuel (delayed response when stepping on gas, 'choking' and jerking when I floor it.) Anywho... I was very surprised (not in a good way) when I removed the fuel filter I put back in December, when I noticed it weighed about a quarter pound. Inside there is all this build up of gunk or something. It is brown and it almost looks like modeling clay, although it is soft like a paste, probably because it was mixing with the fuel. I know I need to clean out my tank, but I was wonder if: 1. Anyone knows what this gunk side is? and 2. If it would be an easy DIY to clean out the tank? Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Does anyone know if it is hard to remove a gas tank in order to clean it? I found build up (of old gas, I assume) in my fuel filter as my car seems to be starved of fuel. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

I have two questions that you guys no doubt can help me with: Car: 1972 240Z 1. How does the wiring harness get routed inside the the car on the passenger side ? Is it routed through the rocker ? The car has been gutted except for the dash. I am looking for strategy for co-existence with the sound deadener. 2. Does anybody have experience with the Gas Tank sending unit electrical connectors ? The 240 has a T shaped connect post on the sending unit. The rubber around the connector is old an stiff. How do you get the connector re-attached to the sending unit ? Thanks, Jay Not just a Z - zdisease
