Hey folks, I'm replacing my water pump in my 71 Z. Wow I have not been able to find a new pump with the old style "forged" impeller, vs the chinzier looking cut steel type. I can post pics if you don't know what I mean. I had parts guys here in Spokane try to find the older style, without luck. Ive seen pics of e forged ones on Ebay, but the sellers weren't if sure if that was the right pic. So the question, anyone know if they're still available anywhere OR Do you think it even matters?I know there has been debate over this in the past. I took the old pump off today, I'd like to get the new one on pretty quick, might just have to go with the steel one. Whaddaya a think? Oh also I have new bolts from motorsport Im gonna put on, what is the lubricant stuff to put on them so I can get them off ten years down the road? AND should I pout the gasketsealantsealent on both sides of the gasket? I It didn't really look like it was on both sides when I pulled old pump off, it was stuck to the pumpo, not the block.

I need to replace a leaking water pump. I also took the radiator out for better access and to get it re-cored at this time. I havent yet gotten to the pump, hope the bolts there are easy to remove, but right now Im just trying to loosen the nuts that hold the fan and fan clutch to the pulley. You can see the nuts in the accompanying pic. The problem is the pulley rotates while I'm trying to get some traction on those nuts and it will just spin. I put the fan belt back , thinking that might slow it down a bit, but it really doesn't. Andy suggestions how to keep the pulley from rotating, or am I doing this wrong?

Hi all, Looking for guidance regarding part selection and source for water pump and fan clutch on a '73 S30. Nissan dealer quoting $90 for the water pump and indicates a new pully is recommended (as a result of a slight part design change); $67 for the pully. ($47 for the water pump on Motorsport Auto) Nissan dealer telling me that I can't buy the fan clutch alone, so fan clutch with fan is $271.15 (compared to $80 on Motosport Auto) I suspect this is an OEM vs. aftermarket question. Anyone here experienced with replacing these parts and have advice? Newbie post. Did search the forums, apologies for anything I've missed. Thanks, -TD

My '73's original radiator sprung a leak, so I am replacing it with an MSA aluminum 3-core unit and am taking the opportunity to replace almost everything else in the cooling system (water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, hoses). Before I removed the fan and water pump, I test-fit the new radiator. Not much clearance: I could barely get my index finger between the center of the fan and the new rad. The blades themselves had a little more room though. I called MSA about the narrow clearance, and they wondered if there was a spacer there from dealer-installed AC (the AC system was removed by the PO many years ago). I saw nothing that I would describe as a spacer until I removed the water pump pulley. There was a narrow aluminum spacer/shim inside the puller cover. I haven't measured it yet, but I'd say it wasn't much more than 1/8" thick. Is that spacer leftover from the original A/C, or is it always supposed to be there?
