  3. I'm working on my 12-'74 260z. the side door windows have everything I have seen online except the "Window Glass Roller Bumper Guide". This is just for the side to side movement and rattling. my problem is the front to back alignment when rolling up my window where i have to walk it back and forth with my hands on the top of the glass to make it roll up smoothly. I know I have to buy this part, but will it help me with my issue as well?
  4. I bought a pair of window roller guides from zcardepot last year and finally got around to installing them. These attach to the inside top edge of the door underneath the door trim piece and keep a little pressure on the window glass so it doesn't wobble back/forth as the door is closed with the window down. The previous owner had busted the passenger window by slamming the door with the window down years ago, so I figure this would maybe prevent that from happening again. The problem is they leave a streak on the glass after rolling it up/down. I washed the rubber with soapy water, then even tried some diluted degreaser, but it still leaves streaks after a few times. I contacted zcardepot and they said they had never heard of such a problem and offered a refund/store credit. What can I do to keep these things from streaking the door glass?
  5. I bought my Z in October and have been wrenching on it since. From the start, both doors didnt latch properly which I suspect the previous owner is to blame. Rotating the cylinder locks it into place when you spin it by hand but when you close the door, it doesnt latch secure. Ive adjusted the striking latch on the body and lubricated all moving parts but had no luck. Could the door alignment be partially to blame? After comparing some photos of door / trim spacing, my door gap seems too large. Also the lock mechanism doesnt engage either (tested with door shut). Also the driver side window doesnt stay in the track. The front half of the window (closest to front) dips down and binds when coming up. When I pull the window straight back towards the rear of the car and crank it up, it usually pops out and binds elsewhere. The window rolls down easily enough. Ive adjusted the bolts securing the window mechanism but also with no luck. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
  6. This just started happening out of nowhere a while back. I can feel the popping/vibration through the handle as it rolls up and down. It doesn't appear to be slipping on the little gears, but that what it sounds like. I've lubed the window tracks but it still pops like this. Any ideas?

  8. The picture shows the driver-side window glass assembly taken from a long-gone 72 Z. If you look at the bottom-right quadrant of the assembly, you'll observe a stamped-metal piece bolted onto the near side of the glass. It looks kind of like a swimming duck (ok, maybe a loon), with the beak pointing to the right. With the glass installed in the door, this piece would be on the outboard side of the glass. Question: What is the purpose of this stamped-metal piece? It doesn't show in the parts fiche drawing and I don't see in the FSM drawings either. In addition, the side glass from the 70 Z that I'm working on doesn't have this piece either. The 72 donor from which I took the window assembly was my daily driver back in the 1970's and I'm 99% positive that this is the glass that was installed at the factory. Is it some kind of brace or reinforcement for this part of the glass? Or is it an anti-'Slim Jim' theft-deterrent piece? Is it a factory piece? (It sure looks like it). If so, when did these start to get fitted to our Z's? I'm trying to decide whether this something that my 70 Z would benefit from receiving as a transplant.
  9. I need a little help. My 73-240 drivrs window mechanism with guides has broken and I am looking for new ones. Does anyone know were I an get them??? I am in Ohio, and the car is in Northern Calif. Any help you can be would be great. Thanks Gaffo
