TomoHawk Posted February 1, 2004 Share #1 Posted February 1, 2004 Did anybody try running their Z engine with only the expansion chamber on? I saw some neat Ansa tips and figured it would look cooler than some old rusty tailpipe sticking out there.thx. TomoHawk Posted February 1, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted February 1, 2004 I thought the Ansa exhaust tips were supposed to make the sound less loud? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10001-going-muffler-less/#findComment-66776 Share on other sites

Daniel Posted February 2, 2004 Share #6 Posted February 2, 2004 you're right Tomo. I have run headers/resonator to ansi over and under pipes for over 20 years. No problem. Sounds great. NOT loud. I love it. Oh, there are those that will tell you the ansi will fail due to whatever reason without the muffler. My first was a used gift-lasted 6 years. I now have over two decades on my second. I did put an ansi tip that was like a large oval shape ,same config,on another car. It was too loud for my taste. TomoHawk Posted March 19, 2004 Author Share #7 Posted March 19, 2004 What exactly you did you have in your rxhaust system, and what engine/mods is on it? I use the stock L28 with no resonator and a coffee can right now. I was just looking at the MSA Targa system and it looks good, except the sharp bends at the tips.thx. Ares240Z Posted March 19, 2004 Share #8 Posted March 19, 2004 I had to cut the exhaust off of my car last night, they welded it straight to the header, and I am going to be purchasing a set of twice pipes, and a new header, not really sure which one yet, but crap it was loud when I started it up running just off of the header. Sounded almost like a V8 at idle. Definetely need something on there to quiet it down a bit. Or at least put the sound behind me. grnskyline Posted March 26, 2004 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2004 hi guys.Just thought I'd throw in the latest . Droped the L28 in with just the extractors, got it running. LOULD IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!!! at 4500rpm, makes a howl that sounded FANTASTIC! Even when driving to the exhuast joint the other day everyone at the lights was givin me the eye, hehe. Take a photo people.Got a 2 1/2 system all the way through. Much more refined now and not half as rebellious. cam Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10001-going-muffler-less/#findComment-74461 Share on other sites
TomoHawk Posted March 27, 2004 Author Share #10 Posted March 27, 2004 Even a clamp-on silencer would have made a huge difference straight away.I noticed the D-type Jaguars on the B-J "Car Search" show used a (dual system) with dual silencers that look like a dual tip from the rear.
