Go240Zags Posted February 9, 2004 Share #1 Posted February 9, 2004 Why waste your time actually turbocharging your early Z when you can just add one of these (said with tongue firmly in cheek)? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=2459342352 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10110-why-waste-on-turbo-when/ Share on other sites
panchovisa Posted February 9, 2004 Share #2 Posted February 9, 2004 Kool! I wonder if they have a deluxe version with "Turbo" stickers? After all, why count on people to hear the turbo sound, play it safe and let them read it also.Might be fun to put on a buddy's car and then keep asking to see his turbo upgrade. Mr Camouflage Posted February 9, 2004 Share #3 Posted February 9, 2004 This is the same device used by big movie companies when they want a normally aspirated car to sound heavily turbo-charged (you really think they are going to spend all that extra time and money turbocharging every car on the set)?!Funny that. I though they added the sound after, like all other movies companies do.It's just a damn whistle that is stuck in the exhaust pipe. It wont make a turbo noise, unless you uually have a turbo mounted in your muffler. As for maing a blow off valve noise. That utter BS. Notice how they say "in some cases". Meaning never in normal operation of your car.If you want to plug you exhasut pipe and increase air resistance and sound like a D@%$head with a whistle in your exhaust pipe, go right a head. Rusty1 Posted February 9, 2004 Share #4 Posted February 9, 2004 Fantastic, I want one,It will be a perfect addition for my front spoiler that is three sizes too big for my car, that looks like it was painted with a spray can and is cracked because it is too close to the ground, my 17 different fog lights, and the pretty lights I just installed on my window washer jets. Now all I need is a really big Nismo sticker and to install my own stereo with two relly big subs with underbonnet wiring that looks like spaghetti and creates it's own fire hazard.Oops, I forgot, I also need a monster tacho with an even bigger shift light and a boost gauge. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10110-why-waste-on-turbo-when/#findComment-67713 Share on other sites
Gav240z Posted February 9, 2004 Share #5 Posted February 9, 2004 Rusty you should upload pics of this beast can't wait to see it. Sounds really mean does your shift light make you look like a circus when it lights up at night. I think those ricers look like a bunch of clowns at night . Zrush Posted February 9, 2004 Share #6 Posted February 9, 2004 Unfreakinbelieveable! The automotive market has truly sunk to a new low. The sad thing is that someone will actually buy that and put it on their car.:tapemouth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10110-why-waste-on-turbo-when/#findComment-67720 Share on other sites
hls30.com Posted February 9, 2004 Share #7 Posted February 9, 2004 All this time I thought having a Folgers can for an exhaust pipe was a "performance Upgrade" Wow, I must be way behind with my 31 year old Z. It just goes to show, P.T. Barnum was right!Who in their right mind would think that noise is the equivalent of engine performance? I guess all of those kids with bigger dreams than brains have to have something to spend their parents money on! Hey Rusty1, Maybe the parents have something-make Junior think his car has been made into a race car he thinks he could drive, by hanging all of this junk on it that actually makes it slower, keeps him from speeding, makes the car break down-and easily identifiable, and insures if he does get a girl in it, everybody will see what they are doing because of all those lights!! Lower worries, insurance rates, and Mom and Dad are still Cool for helping! Mom wins again! Alfadog Posted February 10, 2004 Share #8 Posted February 10, 2004 There's an interesting angle...food for thought - people go on and on about these 'damn ricers' but 30 years ago was it any better? What with the "horsepower wars" kids had access to all kinds of dangerous machines (true/false?). Moreso than a civic with a fart can, thats for sure. How many of you drove cars from the 1940's back then???I'm just speculating, how many of you drove the "in" kind of car when you were kids...(this is not starting an argument! I am just curious) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10110-why-waste-on-turbo-when/#findComment-67805 Share on other sites

Now they just spend money on making them look like they can go really fast, but dont bother with any performance or handling upgrades. That is how i define a ricer. What with the "horsepower wars" kids had access to all kinds of dangerous machines (true/false?). False. They couldnt afford them. Moden stock standard cars are alot more powerfull than cars 30 years ago cars. hls30.com Posted February 10, 2004 Share #11 Posted February 10, 2004 Good point, I would much rather get hit by an idiot in an aluminum coffee can with big wheels and fiberglass doing 50 than a 3 ton solid steel Studebaker! datto_240z Posted February 10, 2004 Share #12 Posted February 10, 2004 Jeebus! It sounds like they stuck the micraphone right next to the BOV(or exhaust thingy). I always wanted to try a kazoo on the exhaust of my R.C. but this is just going too far. Keep it to the film industry. Talking of ricers... I saw a great one today. It was a late Mitsu Lancer 2dr(donno if u get them in US) with that cheap evo-look-a-like spoiler, sticker sports fuel cap, flared arches and a big RALLI\\\ART sticker on the windscreen and on the boot... It sounded like it had a muffler change and he shifted down too quickly and screahed his tyres and revved the hell out of his eng...so sad. I hope i never get like that.:tapemouth Cheer'z' Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10110-why-waste-on-turbo-when/#findComment-67847 Share on other sites
