Mr Camouflage Posted February 17, 2004 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2004 Ok its not a r200, but i have a question about a H190.How can I check if its an LSD Diff? The engine doesn't run, and you can spin one wheel freely with one wheel jacked off the ground. But that might just mean the clutches are worn, right?I read on the net that the H190 LSD came out of this model car (1984 Nissan Cedric (280C). but maybe they had open center diffs too.How easy is it to pull the diff center from the banjo housing? EricB Posted February 17, 2004 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2004 can't you also do the following to check for lsd?jack up both rear wheels, grab a hold of one and spin it, if the other wheel spins in the same direction then you've got an LSD in there but if it spins in the opposite direction then it's an open diff... that's what i've always gone by....-e Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10230-lsd-question/#findComment-68809 Share on other sites
Zedrally Posted February 17, 2004 Share #3 Posted February 17, 2004 I read on the net that the H190 LSD came out of this model car (1984 Nissan Cedric (280C). but maybe they had open center diffs too. If this is the case then there is a oversupply of LSD's available.[At least in Aus].I have a FSM for the 280C at home and will delve into the diff question to-night! Zedrally Posted February 18, 2004 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2004 Mr C,where did you gain the impression that the H190 is a LSD?I'm probably wrong on this [& hope I am], however I quickly checked the FSM that I have, unfortunatelty it's for a 260C, but does quote the diff as a H190.There is no mention of it being a LSD, however, it may be possible to tighten the slip by installing thicker thrust washers. This I would think could be done on any diff used in the S series?or another option would be to weld up the pinion gear an lock the diff. [Cheapest option]!It is difficult to ascertain whether it is possible to change the gear carrier over from the diagrams supplied. I guess it's really over to the specialist in the group to voice an opinion as to the workability of this idea?Hope it helps and am looking to a reply as I know the location of several Cedrics!Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10230-lsd-question/#findComment-68988 Share on other sites
